Johnson utilized a strategy of winning a race to make the playoffs, then spending the regular season trying set ups for the playoffs and gathering data, not necessarily focusing on winning. Here he is seen focusing more on winning, instead of the championship, and getting unlucky. The crash changed him, he’s talked about it. He had a crash at Watkins glen where his brakes failed and he slammed the wall, he said his mistake was turning into the turn instead of riding the wall. He said he made the same mistake at pocono that day, and it cost him a lot of his confidence in his own abilities.

For those old enough to remember Nascar' s first televised race at Daytona on the final lap Richard Petty and David Pearson had the same kind of wreck very close to the checker flag. Difference, David Pearson was able to limp across for the win. All this was over shadowed by the fight between the third and fourth turn between Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison and his brother Donnie Allison. That happened after Cale and Bobby also wrecked. Cale was able to get out of his car first and got to Bobby before he could get out. Donnie stopped to help his brother. And that was my friends what brought Nascar'to the big game on national TV. Of NASCAR really wants to save itself in my opinion the first thing is to go back to, win on Sunday sale on Monday. Go back to cars that people actually can go to a dealership and touch. Go back to your base if not you're going to suffer the same thing but Bud Light is, just a little slower. You had a format that worked great for at least 30 years. Then you had someone, who probably had no ties to the past, start making stupid changes and you are now reaping the results. Let Bud Light be a warning.

The playoff format is better now, again, in my opinion. And yep, been to 4 IMSA races. Went to one when it was the American Le Mans.

I think the Charlotte Roval is the best track to be added to the schedule in the last 10 years, especially with the drama of it being an elimination race in the playoffs, and it produces exciting racing in spite of the stage racing, hopefully this doesn't change with the Next Gen car and the fact that the teams are getting tons of data with it on the Roval (because we have seen what happens when a series does tons of testing at a track that hosts a race, I mean look at F1 at Barcelona)
