If only I was an actual animator so that I could feel like it was worth it to get the goo engine to practice the whole thing, but sadly I'm a hobby game developer, which kinda implies I wouldn't have the goo engine in my game. @@dembi2770 When I said "an actual animator" I was meaning along the veins of "Only ever animated a ball during class or touched up a couple of sprite animations that were pre-made" level of animation. XD I still don't know how to do a proper rig in blender yet (though I did try making one purely to position arms to hold a hammer. It was mess and needed a lot of touch ups, but I did do that). I think if I had any experience animating something, or at least animating characters, then the Goo Engine would be a worthy price given we've already seen what's possible with it at a high level.

This work of art is very similar to what they do with the recent Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball games. I had always thought that Anime, though beautiful, was not realistic in terms of anatomy, hence shifting to 3D would not be possible. Yet when those games came out, I was totally blown away. How they were able to bring 2D into 3D flawlessly like that is just out of this world. Great job!

You write as if anime in 3D had never been released a few years ago. Copying a design is not a problem at all now. Ты так пишешь, будто бы несколько лет назад не выходили 3Д-анимэ. Скопировать дизайн сейчас вообще не проблема.

Hey, I bought Emily a few weeks back and I've been studying her rig, model and shading to improve the ones i make myself. Recently a friend of mine has become worried that if I replicate how she works too closely I may breach the license. Everything on my models is made from scratch, but, for example, I figured out how you created Emily's custom normals and replicated that for use in our own shader, and the face geometry I'm using was based on yours to ensure the side profile looks good, something I've been struggling with. Essentially, I was just looking for confirmation that I haven't breached anything.

Of course, I'm was going to credit you anyway for all the help I've recieved from your channel and the goo engine etc. Even before I bought Emily.

that's all fine. You're not breaching anything you're making your own based on Emily's, since her model and edited normals was already replicated on other older models based on ruki's. Would be nice if you make a review or tutorial on normal editing for the model

@soku330 it doesn't actually involve Normal editing in the traditional sense. It's all in the geometry and shading nodes. I'll try and remember how it works but I don't have my pc in front of me rn. There's a series of objects throughout the model that consist of two vertices linked by an edge. The most important are in the head and neck. The geometry nodes take the average position of the vertices of the model (e.g. the head), and the average position of the edge in those two vertex objects and uses mix factors to create an attribute which relates the position of each vertex in relation to that edge. The shader then takes those edited positions and compares them to the basic positions, which is then used as a Normal. I'm probably fairly wrong as to what each bit does actually. And I've yet to work out how goo baked his geometry nodes, as the base normals on the face haven't changed and the geometry node modifier on the model is pointing towards an external bake file.

@@Drengade I have no idea how geo nodes work so

@soku330 honestly, my understanding is almost completely nonexistent too. I've only looked at them a very small amount, and I'm using my knowledge from shader nodes

The hardest parts about moving from 2D to 3D in anime is the structure of the head, face and HAIR. Take Son Goku for instance. When I was a kid, I was struggling with how to draw his hair because it seemed like, no matter from what angle you look at him, his hair style stays the same. THAT has been bothering me FOR YEARS. Yet when Dragon Ball 3D games came out, I was like: "That was genius!" 🤯

Was caught a little off guard to find out I had to pay a little bit more to get the goo engine. I feel it wasn't stated well enough for people out of the loop with the studio's workflow that Goo Engine was a separate thing (you need to pay for) to make the extra shading features work. Or maybe I'm just a lil dumb and didn't put two and two together. I'll likely get a copy of the engine anyway, I just wish I knew beforehand. Anyway, super solid stuff can't wait to see more!

You only need to pay for it to have it pre compiled. You can compile it yourself for absolutely free ;)

I don't like and don't understand this low framerate feature. But I like the video itself. I like the choreography, I like the music, I like the dramatic boost mechanics, I like the intrigue at the end. I like the desire to do more than enough. Good. Really good.
