What put me off poly relationships is that I had a friend who was in a long term relationship with her boyfriend. They added another woman to the mix (both romantically involved with her) but always treated her as inferior. My friend even told me that this addition was more of a ‘sidekick’ than anything else. I don't care how mature or strong minded you are, at 22 years old you simply have not had the life experience to make this kind of decision. Granted - if you've been raised in polygamy that's a different story because you've lived it and you know what it's about but at 22, everything is rainbows and unicorns. She's probably never had to worry about big serious issues that come up in any romantic partnership - the mortgage company threatened to take your house because you can't afford it anymore, problems with pregnancies (I don't want to trigger anyone), Your house burning down and now what the hell do you do... At least I hope at the age of 22 she hasn't dealt with any of that. There is so much more to marriage / partnership than sharing the bills and making a sex schedule and at 22 there's absolutely no way she has any clue. People need to make sure they aren't confusing this with polyamory, because it's different. Polyamory does not require one man to form a harem of women and produce a bunch of kids, polyamory is dating or being with multiple people and not just exclusively with one as in monogamy.

I totally agree about Dmitri, honestly, if the wife isn’t bi, if it’s purely a case of the guy having a harem, it’s already an even power dynamic. Without real affection and commitment between all three adults, (not an easy ask!) these things are about as stable as a three-legged horse. It’s hard enough for two adults to put aside their selfishness long enough to share lives, and raise children in a healthy way.

The fact is a lot of the stuff they've said can be disproven. That plant based diet that Ashley harped about could actually do more harm then good. Green veggies and what not are highly acidic and the steaming? Most doctors say don't do that because it could burn you and the very thing that Ashley harped about,I.E. an infection,could happy solely based upon the fact that you're shooting steam into a warm,wet area,Sorry,I know. Gross.,and that moisture gets trapped. Also you could burn yourself and while it can be done does anyone really want a skin graph down there?

The scene with Ashley confronting Jocelyn and expecting her to confess to having sex with Dimitri is very manipulative in my eyes. The other woman in this situation has no idea what kind of agreement Ashley and Dimitri have. If Dimitri breaks the rules that's on him, not on this other woman who probably doesn't even know the rules. Also don't remember if Ashley asked her directly if they slept together or just danced around the subject, but if she didn't ask directly, Jocelyn probably assumes it would be rude to just casually mention "yeah I fucked your husband"

Ok so I was watching the show religiously the first couple seasons. I totally loved this family at first. Thought they were genuine in their search for a sister wife/extending their family. As time went on now though I also saw how controlling both Ashley and Dimitri were about diet, household stuff, time etc... Vanessa seemed like the sweetest girl ever and when she "left"with just a text message and had her family go back with her stuff--- I knew there was a whole story there!!!!

Ashley seems very similar. She tries to convince these women they are joining some sort of queendom where they will be elevated. They may not follow the plural faith as such families as the Browns but it's still pretty disturbing.
