I find that the taxes and regulations there are making the people less and less free, because now, they’re having less and less disposable money to spend. I love it when people ask Scotty instead of reading their owner's manual. Check fluids before leaving the dealership and every 200 miles afterwards for the first 3K or so. (My car had low coolant after 50 miles; topped up twice and all was fine. A bubble in the system?) Most (all?) owners manuals tell you the break-in period. My 2018 said, "Drive moderately during the first 300 miles. After 60 miles speeds up to 55 mph are desirable." I simply spent the first weekend cruising. Plus "brief full-throttle acceleration contributes to a good break-in." per the factory. It notes "some oil use is normal in the first few thousand miles." There's "gold" in those pages. 2 of my new cars said, "Never use premium fuel" and the latest says "Premium fuel recommended".
@harrymills2770
@harrymills2770 13 күн бұрын
I've heard different people swear by different break-in methods. The way they engineer things, nowadays, the best break-in might be counter-intuitive to old farts. I was always taught - and I think owner's manuals always said - that you should pretty much baby it, at first. But I've known guys over the years who said if you're building a performance vehicle, and you intend to use it that way, you should break it in like you plan to use it.

@@harrymills2770 I think the difference may be who's paying the bills. The method above has the owner driving city streets for the first 200 miles. If something starts making odd noises, maybe repairable instead of a total loss?

In Michigan the insurance cost on Tesla's is 4x more than any ICE Vehicles it's absolutely insane and our electricity is so expensive it cost more to charge one than fill my Dually up with fuel. Charging infrastructure is non-existent too. Certain states definitely want to ensure you never buy one and that's why they don't sell here. Plus they all die in the winter its negative -15 for three months they even say you need a heated garage to use one😅 Best part is solar in Michigan barley works in the summer months as the sun is never more than 37% efficient compared to Florida. In the winter we have four feet of snow on the roof so you get nothing. Some states will always need to be ice because our climate simply does not support any of this technology.

The average electric in Michigan where I also live is less than 20 cents per kwh and the Tesla model Y has a 75kwh battery meaning it's a whopping 15 bucks to completely charge. Gas is almost 4 bucks a gallon here so even a 4 banger car is 60 bucks to fill up. This isn't rocket science. Every single Meijer which is in almost every town has like 20 chargers. It does not get -15 three months a year here. We barely even had snow and it didn't even get below 10 degrees in west Michigan.

Yeah, plus the only prime source of energy that's more "green" is actually nuclear power. Tip for car makers; Fewer & fewer young people are buying cars- they're too expensive, insurance is too high, fuel is too high. Build a vehicle that young people who might very well have a restaurant job washing dishes can afford. Outsource an engine .8 liter/800cc'ish gasoline- motorcycle type engine that can do well at 'in town speeds up to 55-60mph. 35-40 MPG vehicle, that would mean a person working three miles from home could get back and forth to work for a small percentage of their income. OR keep making 50-60-70 150K $$$ cars for the fast shrinking number of buyers. Over.......

When the manufacturer deep discounts its asking price , it sends a signal to the consumers. A bad one. They not as worth as they think they are. The driver's power window finally broke this January during the extreme cold. Ice was the culprit. Cost me $100 to fix. The torque converter on the transmission just recently went bad, so I had the transmission shop 1/2 mile from my house do a complete rebuild for $2600. Drives like new now. The truck has been phenomenally reliable all these years with pretty much all the bells and whistles still working. Just wish it used less gas. It has the 5.4L Triton, still runs like a top. They don't make 'em like they used to.

I removed the oil sump tube and blew compressed air backwards through it. It blew out a substantial amount of metal fragments. I found no damage to the bearings. I concluded that the metal fragments in the oil sump were created during the early use of the car as all the moving parts were 'broke in'.

Maybe stick to gas-powered ones from a private owner, buying 'certified pre-owned from a dealership means nothing, just like when JD Power recommends something. They're reviews are pretty much bought. Read online customer reviews of people who have owned whatever catches your attention out there before buying anything. Probably best to pay a mechanic to go over a prospective vehicle before committing to purchase. If you don't need something newer, perhaps an older Datsun or Toyota truck without all the sensors that can fail.

My grandfather was the new car breaking in period authority.. Whenever he bought a new car he would drive it from his house in Louisiana to Santa Monica pier and back.. Of course he had his method of variations of speed, idling periods and so on and his notebook with ever possible defect listed.. His all time favorite automobile was the Ford Falcon Station Wagon four door and no Factory A/C.. Factory A/C at the time was optional and 250.00 bucks was in his opinion over priced.. He would install his own..

Scotty, why do you think most of the pushback and negativity about EV's comes from the USA? I mean the rest of the would is mainly positive, we know they are to the internal combustion engine what they were to horses, and that they are undoubtedly the future, and any country that doesn't accept new technology inevitably falls behind. Is it because of the geographical size of the USA that plays a part? The constant propaganda against them? I mean EV's are getting better and better at a far quicker rate than the internal combustion engine did in its early use.

Trucks have become the new soccer mom "car", and they drive them like that too. I see people driving their one ton crew cab trucks like a cheap mini-car. Not me, I'm flying over the wash boards. Only way to get a smooth ride. I don't need a truck to monitor my driving or tell me how to drive. I had a commercial license back in the 70's. I know how to effing drive. Give me a work truck, with a/c and electric windows and locks and heavy duty engine/tranny that aint run by freaking computers.

My father had company cars and private cars over decades. Changed them every 4-5 years, in the beginning, Vauxhall. Then Saab 93, 95 renault 16, Renault 12, then Saab 100, VW passat, then Nissan. After 2 toyota, Carina ended with Toyota Corolla. Corolla was his instinct.

I'm convinced the anti EV people aren't very high IQ. I'm right wing but have enough sense to know EVs are superior in every way. Thanks to these people you can get a great deal on a used Tesla which will easily last 500k miles on the battery pack.

Pickup sales are dropping for a variety of reasons. Ridiculous cost, and poor quality, foremost. Bells and whistles (technology) that do nothing to increase longevity.

If you have a reliable car, keep it. If you need a new car, wait. More pain is coming. To sell, they need to drop the prices. Example, Tesla did it again with the Y, S and X. Looking for a used car? Stealerships are now clocking in 100 - 140 days cars in their parking lots. Nobody wants to buy. Same for EV’s. They need to drop their prices too. Good luck!

There is so much profit on these full size trucks, people like me will not buy them any longer. With all the automation used in the build now, these companies are scalping the public big time. I'd say they are charging nearly four to three times what it cost to build them!!! Not to mention these DEI hires trashing everything where they are implemented.
