Great job there Keith, you done well to fit those single handed sure. Only suggestion would be to fit a strip on the face of the bolted big gate to overlap and cover the gap where they meet. Oh and I'd reverse the coach bolts through the hinges so the curved bolt head is facing out (but that's personal preference). Another inspiring video from you!

Very nice job. I just moved from a property with large gates like these and oak posts. I fitted jockey wheel supports to the gates because over time the sagging caused the oak posts to twist. Without them I would have eventually had to replace the oak posts. Obviously a big and expensive job.

I made some really big gates on my drive 8ft high opening 3.2m wide. I made my own drop bolts. I used metal 32mm hand rails from the metal store. If the wind is too strong i would definitely recoment that. They have brackets that you can screw into the gate rails going across and just slide rhe bar through it

@@RagnBoneBrown As far as getting the gap between the gates goes, if you were to keep only the top hinge in place, remove the bolts from the bottom two and use a drill to increase the size of the holes the bolts go through, you can give your gate a bit more movement. Making the holes a couple of mm bigger may be sufficient to allow the gap to be reduced to a point it's exactly the same from top to bottom. You could to the bottom hinge first and then see if the middle one needs to be drilled. You may only need to do one side if they aren't plum.
@stevewoodw

Another routine 'nicely done, Keith' project with excellent results. My only question is why did you put the nuts for the coach bolts on the front of the gate? Would it not be preferred to have the nut on the rear so as to help protect against someone removing the nuts on purpose? And with the head of the bolt on the front, it might make for a cleaner look.

I like your channel for many reasons. Mainly for the mild mannered way you work. You seem at ease with most everything. It's a relaxing way to work and something I aspire to. Sometimes the chaos of a job really gets to me and I long for a more peaceful experience. That being said, another reason I like your channel is a little sadder. The fact you shared with us about your lovely kitty kat passing really touched me. I'm still sorry about your loss. I recently rescued a kitty and it has changed my life. I've never had a pet of my own and I don't know why I waited so long (I'm 54 yrs. old). I say "never had a pet of my own", but the fact is she chose me (the kitty). She needed a human and came to me. Anyway... Nice job on the gates. They can be tough. Lucky the fella who set the posts did a good job. When I set posts I pretty much go crazy with bracing and actually use "spacer boards" between the posts to get them exact. You have one chance to get them right! Thanks for the video!

Such a great job and well done getting around the issue with the pedestrian gate. You should be wearing sunscreen 365 days a year. If there's daylight, wear sunscreen. Unless you're staying in a room with curtains/blinds closed and no sunlight at all. At the age of 50 all my years of sunbathing with no sunscreen caught up with me and the left hand side of my face dropped as if I had a stroke. Scared the living daylights out of me. For the last 2+years it's the last step of my morning skincare. My dad just had the top of his ear cut off with skin cancer so that's made me more vigilant again. A lot of us forget to put sunscreen all around our ears too (and the skin behind the ear). And if you have thin hair get a sunscreen for your scalp. Thyroid issues, thin hair I have burnt my scalp on numerous occasions and it's bloody sore.

@@RagnBoneBrown just with cutting the post short to line up with the render and then realising you couldn’t fit the lower hinge where you wanted. Your workaround was great but I just wondered if you considered removing that post and getting another post and cutting it for the full length to the ground so that you could fit the hinge where you originally wanted to etc. Obviously you could have packed behind the base of the post to fill the void between the render and the brickwork. In any case, the gates look absolutely brilliant 👍🏻

Nice job on the gate's overall Keith but just wondering why you didn't install the new wood posts for the project yourself?. The only thing I would have done different is to add a long wood strip upon the outside of the main gate's just simply to hide the gap and stop any nosey folk from looking into the property etc, personally I think it just gives a finished look overall. Keith on a different note what do you think about the Mirka sander? I do recall from a past video that you and Leo from Liverpool wasn't very happy overall and had a trip around Mirka UK. I just wanted to ask what you thought about it now regardless of the Mirka tour etc reason for asking you is I've been thinking of buying the Mirka Deros model and selling my new Mirka air fed sander, purchased without thinking 🤔. As always buddy 💯% 👍.

Cheers, I'm not an expert when it comes to concreting etc. While I'd tackle it if it was at my home, I'm not confident enough to do it to someone else's. I am now on my second Mirka Deros, I bought a new one when the 3 year warranty expired on the first one, and sold the original on eBay. It's been fine, no issues as yet. Still a great sander, but still worried about how reliable it is....
