Recently there has been an increasing number of rap albums that underperform, underwhelm, and just flat out bore listeners and I think I know why. #rap

I think these artists should be releasing all of their “filler” or extra songs that don’t fit the vibe of the album as singles, and EP, bonuses, or on the album deluxe. That way fans get the same amount of music and artists make a similar amount of money, but the original album still has great quality.

Please excuse me for being antisocial is still the best modern trap album. No skips. Seamless transitions. Experimental vocals and flows on timeless production. 16 tracks. Including one of the biggest songs of an era. If u havent listened to it yet in totality or forgot about it go listen to it again its a perfect album

i also understand the argument that many artists follow that “more songs = more streams.” but imo having an album with just 10-15 great songs as opposed to those same songs with 10+ additional songs will ultimately net you more streams in the long run. think of how many projects get forgotten so quickly simply because of the discourse around the album. where as an album with a tighter tracklist of 10-15 great songs will most likely have a lot longer standing in the community and have more eyes on it.

Over saturation definitely is an issue but as you mentioned these artists have to drop these bloated albums so frequently because streaming literally pays pennies whereas in the album era you had to go out and actually buy the album and the artist made so much more. I think youngboy is special case because he’s already rich so it’s not necessarily about the money for him but because he’s bored in house arrest. And hot take I think if artists were to cut their albums to just 10 perfect songs the streams would a lot higher, as a casual listener you more likely to listen through, relisten, and digest a 30 song album or a 10 song album?
@mfswylin
@mfswylin Жыл бұрын
Facts yb's quantity>quality approach skyrocketed after his latest house arrest you can kinda tell he just got nothing else to do. Sucks too cause that last album had some rlly good songs he should just be more selective about what makes it onto the final project

There’s been a few times where I’ve tried to really stretch a track list and make like 15 or 16 songs for an album, but then I just grow to hate so many of those songs inclusions that I always dial it back to maybe 11 songs per album. I don’t know, it’s just too much for me to try and stretch it out more.

i feel like the simple formula of 1 song a month or the equivalent can’t fail, rappers nowadays make multiple songs a night so u can either release a 12 song album once a year or 24 song album every 2 years or a 6 song ep every 6 months whatever, this formula basically ensures u won’t miss because almost every rapper can make 1 good song every month. Ofcourse u can release more than this and have all good songs but in general rap fans find it hard to keep up with some rappers projects, my best example is carti and uzi, i feel like at one point uzi released so much music i didn’t get round to listening to it even tho i love him, if he released less i’d probably listen to every song he drops. Carti releases every few years or is a feature like twice a year so it’s very easy to listen to every song he puts out
@ayo32

To be fair tho, carti might be the only artist that can maintain hype with no music in sight for literal years at a time

Too further add on to your points most of these 25 song albums have iffy mixing in-between like you could actually feel the quality difference especially on summrs latest album No really to NVR losing was the best part of the album. It needed to be the intro shake it and the desire fts and no really to NVR losing. And to add to the no features ilck needed features I literally got bored after 9 tracks and turned it off cuz i wasn't really feeling it. Not only do I feel some albums are oversaturated I feel like some just needed to be held back for a bit and actually mixed properly

Terrible mixing isn't bad if it's done properly. Rodeo, bittsm and astro have poor mixing yet those 3 house some of the greatest music to ever be made. None of these rappers now know how to make actual music yet they call themselves an artist

The thing with the amount of filler in albums is also that in the end there is no point in making your album longer. If you have a shorter and better album, than overtime it will get more streams just because its actually worth listening to. The only thing you get with 25 song albums is first week sales.

people don’t care about putting out bad songs nowadays, they see it as if they put out 50 songs in a year there’s a good chance 4/5 do quite well but the bad thing is a lot of people including me rate rappers off their hit to miss rate, like if they put out 5 songs and they’re all good i’ll say they’re a great artist cus there’s no misses, however if they released 30 songs and i only liked 5 i’d look at them as worse cus only a few songs hit

i understand the complaints about ghost, album had plenty of filler imo and it failed to bring back the "ghost era" sound, however it has some really amazing, hard and different flows, with insane vocal delivery , take "munchkin" for example. SIMW on the other hand has at most 3 misses, he combined his 2019 and 2021 style in there, truly some of his best work ever imo. only thing that i don't like is the cover art 😂😭. people hated simw bc they were expecting fallen raven 2. I understand that he couldve went a bit harder on some hard tracks.

Back in high school when albums came out like wales the album about nothing. No one complained about album length. It don’t matter how long or short a album is. If it isn’t good it just isn’t good. I don’t get why you the person who made this video and the people who agree with you, think you know the mind of these creators to even try to say “the album was supposed to be 15 songs but then stretched” you don’t know that at all. That’s not something fact based, everything else is opinionated so it’s okay to say but some of these artists really did make that album as long as they wanted, just because y’all felt If it was shorter it would’ve been better, that’s cool that’s a valid opinion too have. I don’t agree with the opinion that artists stretch albums some of them really want to feed the fans. Ofc maybe the first half a fan may like more than the second half that’s just how music goes. Some won’t like the first half at all but love the second half. If albums were super short that possibility isn’t even there anymore
