Perfect pairing with the falafel, Wil! For those looking for Sumac, Amazon and Walmart carry it. I think we paid about $7 for 1/2 lb. Next stop: babaghanoush! 🇨🇦🇺🇸🙌

Falafel brings me here. Im curious, what is sumac? Thank you for the recipe
@garya30563 жыл бұрын
@@PobrengItaliana hi - it’s a dried pulverized red berry. It’s one of the spices in the better known middle eastern spice blend called “za’atar”. Really quite amazing.

Love this salad a lot..! as being arabian, it’s a stable dish on our table sane as Taboula . Sometime I spray the bread with olive oil before putting it in the oven and after it’s done, I lightly sprinkle it with salt, garlic powder and paprika it gives it a twist but doesn’t overcome the taste of the dressing at the same time which is the key ingredient in this salad. xoxo 🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️.

I love that you are featuring Middle Eastern food recently. Alongside Asian and East Indian cuisine, it's another great staple of a plant-based diet. The wonderful thing about this salad is that the ingredients can be changed up quite a bit. The dressing and the pita chips go great with so many things!

It is amazing how middle eastern recipes are always on your menu. For the sumac, people need to know that the cheap ones always have citric acid in it which might cause heartburn. We usually add pomegranate molasses to the dressing. I am very happy that you baked the bread instead of frying it like what many others do unfortunately. 👏 There is one type of green that is called Baqleh (Purslane) which is used in Fattoush when it is in season.
@angietyndall73373 жыл бұрын
Purslane in the U.S. is considered a weed although there are some, who are trying to bring back ancient or lost foods& medicines here which Native Americans; etc. used.
@iyouitry3 жыл бұрын
@@angietyndall7337 Really? That’s strange! To be honest I always feel that the USA government tries its best to prevent non-GMO ancient seeds to enter the country.

I have purslane as a weed all over in my garden. I always pulled it until I saw Refika's channel last year and she added purslane to a salad. Now I use it in salads. Thanks for the tip on the pomegranate molasses too.

what is the flavor of sumac like? I struggle with gerd so the note about the citric acid is much appreciated!
@Firebuck3 жыл бұрын
I grow purslane in my garden in Colorado. But it's not the tiny scrawny plant you see in the cracks of sidewalks... this one grows 18" (45cm) tall! VERY productive with a slight lemony flavor and crunchy succulent leaves. It makes a lovely addition to salads.

But with your channel, Wil, EVERY recipe is so easy to make, uses humble ingredients and looks absolutely delicious. I don't know how you do it, but I just love it. This is my favorite, go-to, everyday salad. I learned to make it from my coworker’s elderly granny, and she uses pomegranate molasses in the dressing, which is not too sweet but balances the sumac nicely. It should also have lots of fresh parsley, according to granny. You also can’t go wrong with a small amount of preserved lemon too. I was surprised to find a nice for fattoush in one of Martha Stewart’s vegetarian cookbooks. She adds kidney beans for additional heft and protein.
