John List. Very similar to the father in the movie both in terms of motivations (having lost his job, strained finances, wife's sexual history, and religious fanaticism) and method of killing. Even using sleeping bags to cover the bodies. He was eventually caught in the '90s thanks to America's Most Wanted.

Just now learning about this story, and yep, that would explain why the name on the picture changed to Robert Clark, as that was another name he went under.

Yes! Family killer John List, who killed his entire family, stacked them in the basement and turned on the air conditioner so nobody would smell the rot and then he disappeared for 30 fuckin years. I think the show America's Most Wanted helped to catch him. He also killed his family in the exact order as the film, with the actress daughter getting killed last. His excuse was the same as well: the "sin" of poverty and how being an actor is also "sinful". This movie should have the tag line of "Based on true events with a psychedelic twist", pretty cool movie.🤘

I'm very happy with your interpretation, because mine was... so, so much worse. I'll leave mine here in a short version. Here are the questions I asked myself, and the answers I thought might be true: - What's the chicken mean? Chickens get stuffed - What's with the clapping? The clapping definitely varies in speed. A single person clapping kind of sounds like... yes. - How can the father afford the house? Maybe he makes money by selling his daughter. - The stage? The stage is for acting, where else would she act or be forced to act? In the videos. - What do the Eyepeople represent? The viewers of the produced video material. - Why are there 3 plates and forks? Maybe 3 people are "consuming" her childhood innocence while it is filmed (and the killing at the beginning represents part of her being killed). - Mom has died at some point? In Ingrids mind, the mother "died" once she let her father have his evil way. - "The pink snake pit": Take the worst possibility of what that might desscribe These were some thought that I had. I'm glad that your explanation makes way more sense. Because this was ugly to think about.

this film was incredible omg. it's always impressive when a story is told in a limited setting, but to do it this well? and to be so unnerving in ways I don't even know know how to describe, too. Although the moment where G-Man says "my mistake" and makes that face feels like some Mr Boss from Smiling Friends shit askshdjshsjs. But also like, the practical effects tho? LIke I'm not opposed to all CGI in movies, but I think it's best when used only when necessary, and costumes, makeup, and other practical effects are the way to go for total immersion. Especially in horror. Even when you can tell it's obviously just an effect, the fact that it's actually there in the same space with the other actors activates a primal part of your brain and makes it feel so much more real. Plus, imagine how good practical effects could have been by now if there was much more time and money put into improving the tech for them. Sorry for the ramble, I'm not even a massive film buff, but also like, I get it, y'know?

"Women ... are more likely to be victims of violence" Citation? Men make up around 80% of all murder victims worldwide, and the statistics for lesser forms of physical violence is not that much better.
@soupysoupx7 ай бұрын
This isn't the full context of what I said. I said that women are more likely to be victims of violence at the hands of men, and no, I never refuted the fact that men also experience various forms of violence as well. However, I was more specifically referring to things such as S.A. and domestic violence. Again, this does not mean that men can't also be victims of S.A. and domestic violence, obviously, it just tends to be more common against women. Source: bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/fvv.pdf
@Nathansansfrontieres7 ай бұрын
@@soupysoupx I apologize if it sounded like I was making an accusation, I was merely trying to make a correction to a common misconception. I tend to be very literal minded, and didn't realize that you were specifically referring to domestic violence; in which case your statement is statistically correct. Also, good job actually providing a citation! I think that's the first time on KZbin I have asked for one and someone provided one, very professional.

This is when someone shoots a local theater performance, throws in 60 seconds of on location shooting, and calls it a film. They can call it whatever they like, but the acting just reaches over and flips the switch to illuminate the 500 foot neon sign that says community theater level acting. This "movie" still wouldn't be saved by good acting. The poor acting is doing the horrible dialog and tragic set design a real favor here by drawing some attention away from those car wrecks.
@therealestofminimen5193 ай бұрын
Dude I think you're just illiterate. The entire point is that she is a highschool theatre actress, dying, dreaming of a performance which abstractly reflects the circumstances of her death. they're in a three wall theatrical set, performing overtly theatrical dialogue that's full of alliteration (🤯🤯🤯) until it breaks the performance her and her father are giving in the dream. You shouldn't spend time watching things you can't understand at such a basic level
@jeremysmith46203 ай бұрын
@@therealestofminimen519 Remember kids, starting with an ad hominem attack is certainly the way to get your point across in the most rational and effective way possible. I think you are missing the point, but really great you can be rude about someone else's opinion, way to go! I'm sorry that you have somehow misconstrued plot with delivery and the finished product. If I was making a film about poor acting I wouldn't actually want terrible actors filling the roles. I also wouldn't want someone trying to defending it by saying, "the movie is about horrid acting so it is done by substandard actors on purpose," while ignoring all the other glaring flaws to then fall back on insults because they are easier than actually addressing any point at hand. The shot composition is bad, the camera feels locked off, even the choices for back and forth dialog shots are poor to say the least. There are a million other more clever ways to convey a school or small theater setting/experience. Substandard film-making, in fact, doesn't allude to what you are claiming. All it does is distract from the story and overall quality of the film. I find nothing wrong with theatrical dialog, I happen to love and frequent the small theaters in my community - none of which deliver dialogue this abysmally. There is quite a difference between the use of flowery, indulgent, and verbose speech and just poorly written drivel that is simply trying to approximate theatrical dialogue. There is also quite the distinction between decent line delivery and letting the words just fall out of one's mouth as if you are a baked potato learning to speak for the first time. So no, I didn't miss the point. You responded to the comment I made, so perhaps try to insult someone in a matter that may actually work, since you responded to writing and used "illiterate" as your best possible response. You missing the point that badly, your overall delivery, your use of "theatre," and the oddly angry response about not understanding it makes me ask, what part of the movie did you work on? I would also tell you, for use in the future, that not understanding a film is typically not the "fault" of the audience. That is generally a failure in the film making process, so even that accusation doesn't land quite like you think it should. It's still ok to not like some movies (or even other things) and state why. Sorry if you were personally offended to the point of anger and insult because you didn't like an opinion I had. I'd hate to see your reaction to my opinion on beans and toast, tea, or queuing. The film simply could have been better. To me it does feel exactly like taping a local theater performance which is completely different than trying to convey the essence of a theater performance on film. It was like reading a book by an author who doesn't read. I think the film would have been much better served and not had that feeling if the director and other key crew members watched and studied other films that conveyed the same vibe and portrayed the theater in different ways, just to get a feel for all the components of cinematography and direction and how each film was able to convey that distinctly theatrical feeling in its own way. Maybe that would have inspired the people working on this film to try and translate the experience in a better and more distinct way. Watch Lars von Trier's Manderlay and Dogville films that can't feel anything but theatrical and be careful to see the life von Trier brings to every frame that is sorely missing here. Other films that brilliantly incorporate theater and the theatrical experience like After the Rehearsal, Vanya on 42nd st, Birdman and also films about film-making that also incorporate the feel of capturing a performance and everything outside of that with how to possibly juxtapose the two, like Living in Oblivion. No one early in their career is going to produce film like that, but smart filmmakers watch films. It doesn't feel like that happened in this movie. Theater and film are very separate genres and it takes trying to understand and synthesize both to end on a captivating final product, which this film does not do in my opinion. There you go bruv, my "illiterate" two cents.
@therealestofminimen5193 ай бұрын
@@jeremysmith4620 I mean, I think you're completely wrong in everything you just said regardless, and you expanding on it doesn't make me think the point landed with you. In fact it just makes me believe what I did before even more lol. These "glaring issues" aren't glaring to me at all. I really enjoy the strange silent hill-ness of the acting in this movie, it feels like a dream. Everything you don't like about it is what I think makes it cool. The shots, the set, the disjointed hazey dialogue, which is why I say you're illiterate, not because you literally are; obviously you have a decent enough ability to write, but because you took the time to write such a well structured blip while totally missing the point. It's fine to not like something, I just think your pretentiously objective review of the movie was annoying. Your response is even more pretentious and annoying. I mean, telling me how to properly review reviews in the future, thinking I had to work on the movie to find your rash review disagreeable, and giving me movie recommendations to help me realize why you have the ability to understand it better than me is the perfect example of this haha. as if your perspective on it is the most factual, object one that exists, and it could help me in my journey in... watching stuff I guess. Doesn't really work that way. Personally, I do think it is typically the fault of the audience in cases like this. Some of my favorite films of all time are grossly misunderstood, and the worst films over explain themselves. I like that the short doesn't hold your hand. The film feels like a dream unapologetically, and dreams don't pat you on the head. It's very reminiscent of nightmares that I have had in the past, I think it does that well, and is very interesting to me. The art is interesting, the editing, the way it's shot. You don't have to agree or like the movie obviously, but writing out a review like you're the have all end all on the subject is just so cringey especially criticizing things clearly intended in the movie then saying that it didn't meet a medium-place closely enough in its intention for you after the fact. Movies aren't something you can gain authority on in your opinions of them, they're completely subjective. The majority of people enjoying and finding value in the exact things you don't like about it tells you everything you need to know. The main flaw of the film imo is the master is weird. Some of the audio feels off, maybe intentionally but it's a bit much for me. Obviously we won't agree at all, which I think is just the divisive nature of the film being so purposely weird and non traditional- Although I do think you'd do well to accept that you just don't get or enjoy certain things rather than having to believe your lack of enjoyment is due to an object unforgivable flaw you can educate people on who do enjoy the art you're consuming. Criticizing me for finding your review dumb when you're commenting on and disagreeing with a video which is a positive review is also very silly. No point in discussing it further. P.S: theatre refers to the art of live performance while theater refers to a building, hence my use of the word.
@jeremysmith46203 ай бұрын
@@therealestofminimen519 You are also wrong about theatre versus theater. I mean you do have the internet, just use it. I do think it is extra funny the guy that opens with illiterate as an ad hominem then completely botches this too and give some urban myth like its a fact. The difference between the too is exactly the same as color vs colour, nothing but American versus British spelling. There is no difference in meaning where one refers to a movie house and the other refers to live stage. Just use your Google machine brother and find out. I'm sure you'll argue that fact as well with further ad hominem attacks like this last response and still make weird excuses why you are entitled to your opinions and insults, but I am not entitled to opinions and lack of personal attacks. I knew it would go nowhere because people actually willing to engage in any sort of credible discussion just don't start conversations that way. So here you go: I'm done, you are the only one entitled to opinions, insulting people is better than making a valid point, and words mean whatever you want them to. There you go, now go back to whatever life you are living now that you get the vindication you so desperately desire. I have better things to do that tell someone who jumps in out of nowhere because his feelings are hurt simply to insult another's opinion of media.
