Hi Phil, another great review, thank you. A bit different to have a 6L6 in a lower wattage amp. I recently ventured into the Supro world by acquiring a Supro 25w 10” 1970RKC also with a Celestion Creamback. It’s a real pedal platform, has 6v6 power tubes and I’m loving the tones. Perhaps Supro or Sweetwater can hook you up for a demo. Very unique and interesting amp.

Princeton is completely different and with push-pull output stage, which provides "cleaner cleans". You may find that more desirable... ot not. I do wish the Princton had power scaling, and this amp sounds sweet and great. I wish Philip had demoed it in the mix vs a Princeton since the question was, Can this replace my Fender?

I never thought of using a power attenuation setting as basically the master volume with the volume knob being basically a gain know. Thank you for that
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 Жыл бұрын
The whole point of attenuation is that to get a tube amp with no overdrive or master volume on it to distort you have to turn it up too loud- so you do that- but then attenuate it back down to an acceptable volume. So, if you didn't think it was used this way- what did you think it was for?

Great review Philip. I really appreciate that you play it clean and without pedals like just about everyone else!! My question: How does it compare to BF Deluxe Reverb or BF Princeton Reverb? And more specifically, sparkling Fender cleans. My wife and I are on the road in our travel trailer full time playing up & down the West Coast, so small amps are a must. I'm currently using a 2nd gen Blues Junior and a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, but have been thinking about a Princeton Reverb. Would this be a viable alternative? I love BF sparkle with the bright caps still intact. I play several genres: Western Swing, Older Country, Rockabilly, Swing, Jazz Standards, Old School Chicago Blues (cleans, as Jimmy Rogers on his own recordings & behind Muddy, Little Walter, and ALL the early Chess stuff, and all the early Chicago guys who emulated him on Chess recordings), and other stuff. I guess I should actually TRY one, but you have one and are pretty good at evaluating amps, so... Thanks so much!!! Kevin

I got myself a Supro delta king 12. I used to have a 100w Marshall JVM that weighed about 35kg. Sold it cash, and never looked back. Despite only being 15w, the Supro tubes absolutely sing. They sound like they run extremely hot and I am VERY impressed, especially as the whole thing cost me about 300.

Great review and sweet tones. Looking for a small tube amp I could actually play in the house, eyeing Mesa California 1x10 with attenuation but this has more features at a lower price (due to offshoring by Supro's new owner I believe). The one feature I HATE is the control placement. Yeah, I get that it's vintage and a lot of old amps are that way and it's handy for gigging players, yada yada...I don't like back pain and squinting...probably a dealbreaker for me.
@herroglop7411

Could you make a comparison video with the princeton? Similar features and power and I wonder how they compare. I think the Supro is darker than the Princeton and with a more raw overdrive sound when both are cranked. Is the Supro for a Jazz-Blues player and the Princeton for a Blues-Rock player( disregarding that "every amp" is for "every music")? Thanks for the video.

For that type of music, if it's the power scaling that appeals, the VOX AC15CH (head), has some power scaling. They aren't that common, and a slightly awkward shape, needs a decently wide cab to sit on, like a 2 x 12". And I think the power scaling doesn't work on all impedances. But, Kinks is that VOX AC-30 gritty shards of glass tone. It can do gnarlier than this, and probably can go much louder if you need it for gigging. In the Europe at least, the VOX AC15CH and V212C (Greenback) cab run to about the same money as the Supro. And could buy a decent 1x10" or 1x12" if you need more portability. Just some other options ... I was looking at these Supros but decided on VOX in the end.

@@retroman541 They use run of the mill parts and mount components like tube sockets to the PCBs. Personally, I still think that's good value for a factory-made PCB amp built in the US. Comparable Fender amps are built in Mexico and more expensive, but not any more reliable. One point is that the circuits in most of Supro's amps are very similar or identical with few exceptions. If you want that sweet turret board build quality, look at something like a Valvetrain. Those are insane value. But Supro has their own thing going.
