Old rivets (for leather and heavy canvas) are the boon and bane of any relic hunter. They are good indicators you are in a spot at least 100+ years old, but they sound SO GOOD and then just let you down.

The tiny round metal item is a collar stud. For fastening a seperate white collar to the shirt. Not average miners gear. Implies they had a long term camp there.

Leather rivet and the buckles are from horse/mule tack. I.E. someone was packing their gear in on a mule. The reason I say pack mule as opposed to horse or burro is a mule can carry a lot more than either and that's not riding horse country. So pack buckles it is. Plus I run pack strings into the ochoco here in Oregon and I usually make my own tack.

I love rock crushing videos. I know that they don’t get the views that others do but it’s the surprise factor. I have been crushing rocks found around a old stamp mill during the first gold rush in America before the 49s hit it in Cali. I am just waiting for the rock with a couple of ounces gold. I learned to pan with a 60 year-old metal pan. I still have it and it is now 108 years old. The first plastic pan I used was a Garrett. I thought it was different and maybe a little more forgiving of sloppy panning but is it better? The jury is still out on that one. I labeled them both good and even interchangeable. I'm not going to say that you, Mick, and Gadzee had good luck because your luck is just starting to go supernova. Just watch
