Another great video Mr Nick. For fires I would recommend a torch lighter and for fuel I would suggest dryer lint. I carry an old medicine bottle packed with dryer lint. My son does as well. Starts fire very easily and does not take up much space.

Oh man, I get ocular migraines too Nick, I feel for ya. I was on a trip last weekend and had to pull off for a half hour to let one pass. Fishing is one thing, but driving is another. Don't drive with one. For people that don't know, it doesn't really hurt, it just creates this swimming pattern in your eye. Starts from the edge of your vision and moves across like an eclipse. Sometimes total, but usually partial. It's hard to describe but that's my take on it. Anyway, back to fishing, those asian carp give you a good fight, but it's too bad they've taken over so many of our rivers. You can't get past them to catch the wipers, catfish, walleye, etc. that you know are there. If you use bait, they eat it. If you use lures, you snag 'em. You can't throw them back, but how much catfish bait can you store and use? They're actually good to eat, there's plenty of youtubers showing how to prepare them. But still, you're back to the problem of not being able to catch any of the target species. I've seen them fished commercially, to be ground into pet food, but they're hardly putting a dent in them. Sorry to get on my soapbox but this is a serious threat to sport fishing in a large part of the country.

You need to try the cardboard egg crates with dryer lint packed into each divet, then melt candle wax into each one. Then when they are cooled off you can break them into individual firestarters. I have done this since I was in my early 20's and I'm 56 now. These burn long enough to start semi wet wood and other material to start burning. They burn up to 25 minutes per individual divet... hope you try this 😎

Another fire lighting suggestion: soak pieces of cardboard in melted paraffin wax. Have used this very successfully for many years in very wet mountains. Doesn’t contaminate or deteriorate and lights in almost any conditions.

Get yourself some cotton balls (the ones people use for removing cosmetics, cleaning wounds, etc), and soak 'em in vaseline. Then pack the vaseline soaked cotton balls in an Altoids tin and seal it up good with a bit of duct tape or whatever. These things will light super easily, including taking a spark from a ferro rod, and and burn nice and hot and burn for a while. They make a great fire starter for inclement conditions (or anytime really). Get that and a ferro rod and you''re set.

Great video man. You n Tyler from Ty pig patrol are my favs! I went fishing today myself and had a first as well. I was in the process of pulling the hook out of a fish when the hook got buried in my thumb, past the barb. I said to myself, "at least it's not in your lip and pulled the hook out of my thumb. I also continued fishing for at least another hour.

Ouch. I can feel it because it's happened so many times over the years. Two things I learned to do was, always carry some antibiotic cream in the truck (neosporin) and de-barb my hooks. A lot of people will argue with me, but I don't lose fish over it. I keep my line tight. Without the barb, it comes right out of your hand, boat carpet, clothes, whatever. Saved me a lot of hassles over the years. A must when fishing with kids or dogs, you don't want to be wrestling a barbed hook out of either one, trust me on that! Some of the places I fish here in Colorado require it, so I just do it all the time now. Good fishing to ya, take care out there.

What a miserable thing to happen. Migrains - any type - do not beg a good day of fishing. I get those ocular migraines sometimes while working, or if I get too much sun. I have no advice or tricks other than to say that I *stupidly* tough them out most of the time. @@timothyjohnson5062 Yep. I usually have some excedrine or something like it with me somewhere. Once I'm home safe I'll pop an edible or two, drink some water and crash in my room, which is all blacked out and has a powerful fan going. That seems to help. I also try to limit activity on ridiculously sunny days. one of my hobbies is photography and I've noticed that on super sunny days when I'm using my eyes to really concentrate on stuff in my viewfinder, the headaches come on quick and strong so I've tried to find my limits and back off.

Nic, have you tried a flapper bait? Basically cutting a small fish from tail to head both sides of the back bone but leaving the fillets attached to the head. When fishing for Pike and Zander here in the UK I fix a bright read poly pop-up ball on the trace in front of the head to lift the bait off the bottom and to allow it to flap in the current giving out a tremendous scent trail.

I lived In Calgary, Alberta and used to get bad migraines when the Chinook winds were indicated by a low horizontal cloud the day before. Never experienced them before and it was pretty bad. Other people suffered the same thing. One person told me to carry a bar of dark chocolate around to eat at the first sign of the migraine. That seemed to work most of the time provided I ate it at the very start. I was told it is partially the caffeine that helps. Give it a try. Chocolate as medicine. Sure beats gov mandated experimental procedures.

I know the pain of migraines all too well as I normally experience 2-5 a month since a neck procedure 2 years ago.
