I'm exploring the potential for making drip irrigation for my regular yard, using some of those pallet-sized cube-cage water tanks I bought on the cheap, as a passive way to water the yard without having to hook up directly to the city, that I can just roll up/etc in order to mow. I appreciate this thorough look at how to set it up, and especially the tip on the quick-release idea; I have very shakey hands and the quick release option will likely save me a lot off tremor-filled struggle to get the connections off if needed =)
@livinthenewcomblife Жыл бұрын
That is a very interesting concept, I'm very anxious to see if you decide to try it and how it works out for you. The quick disconnects that I use for my system work very well, I'm glad I chose to go with them. I un-hook them at the end of the gardening season and store the hose away. This drip irrigation system has worked very well for me over the three years we've had it. Thanks for watching our video!

I will be attempting to use drip tape in March and use my IBC totes for water supply. I am planning that the 6gpm well pump I got will work in those IBC totes as my other choices had very low duty cycle. We don't get much rain in South Texas but I always wanted to plant corn and watermelon. Cool video.

@@livinthenewcomblife I will post a video for sure. The idea is to get a solar powered well 500 ft away to flow through 4 IBC totes and the over flow will go to a small leaking pond for now. I will get 6 more totes as needed. I got me a 12v 5gpm well pump and a cheap 12v 16A timer with relay to water twice per day. The well pump flows 6 gpm and goes 500 ft by gravity so that's why I had to add a second power source. IF things go well I will add a second pump to be able to pump 12 gpm and add more totes. I am really looking into gardens and hope I can help people in need as well.

Great video! At 13:06 one suggestion. Don't tighten the screw cap on the fitting before attaching the tube. Instead take the screw cap off, slide it down the tube with the thread pointing in the direction of the cut tube, then slide the tube as far as you can onto the fitting, slide the screw cap back up and tighten. This creates the best seal and will prevent your tube from coming off. Hope that makes sense. Keep it up!

So I know some plants require a different amount of water per week than others . With this system it looks like all the plants will be getting all the same amount of water correct? I was going to have three different timers for ours so I could schedule some plants more frequently than others, but that just seems like a hassle. Watering all the plants the same amount of water has worked okay for you guys? Thanks a lot great video!
@livinthenewcomblife Жыл бұрын
This drip irrigations system has worked awesome for us. Yes, all of the plants get the same amount of water, but it goes down in the soil and the plants seem to take what they need. We've had this system for about 3 years now and it has been awesome, I can't say enough good things about it. It works perfect with the flat garden system we use too..almost no weeding at all. Thanks so much for watching our video.

Nice video…I set mine up but it doesn’t seem to have enough water coming out? The plants are still dry and I had it on for several hours? The water is coming out of all the emitters? What could it be?
@livinthenewcomblife Жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. The only thing that I can think of that it could possibly be is that the pressure in the system is too low. I know there are several different pressure gauges for different systems and different pressure requirements for them. My system takes a 10 psi guage. I would recommend checking yours and see if your pressure guage is too low. I hope this helps, let me know, and thanks for watching our video.

I was wondering how well it worked over your grow bags? I've thought about trying this in my nursery over the potted plants, but I wasn't sure how well it would work, or if I would have to find a way to support the tape throughout the rows, other than them laying on top of the pots.
@livinthenewcomblife Жыл бұрын
For our application it worked amazing over our grow bags. We simply watered the same over the flat garden as we did over the grow bags and had outstanding results. Great tips and taking the time to share your expertise is absolutely priceless! In wanting to water from the bottom, what would be your thoughts on using a perforated PVC pipe ( say 10 small holes on the bottom) and putting the drip irrigation on top of the tube so the water can reach the bottom part of the garden?
@deejay9782 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate and value your response,... I have a 60 wide x 30 deep x 200 cm long plastic tarp type of planting bed and was considering using bottom trays and possibly adding drip irrigation set up to the bottom pans, but instead thought of simply adding a few PVC pipes with perforated holes on the bottom would do the trick and minimize the possibility of over watering. Any thoughts?

I don't think you'll need it...so far we haven't experienced any leaks where we have our emitters set up, but I can't think of a reason you may not want to try it either. Ron Schreiber - This is the garden fabric we got from Amazon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWMQRPV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It has worked great for us and this will be the third year we've used it. This is the most maintenance-free way we've found to garden. The garden fabric keeps 99.9% of the weeds out (you only need to weed around the plant stalk) and when you set up your drip irrigation on a timer, you never need to worry about watering it. It's some work in the beginning, but so worth the extra effort. If you get a chance, check out our flat garden video so you get the whole picture. Please let us know if you use either of these methods and how they worked out for you. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching our video, and welcome to the Livin' the Newcomb Life family.
