Hi. I live on a barge in Suffolk, England. It's my home and all my stuff is on here with me. Last week it sprung a leak, a bad one. I had to move all my stuff into one room and rip up all my floorboards to find this leak. The boat crane here lifts a maximum of 35 tons and my barge weighs 70 so coming out of the water wasn't an option. A lot of my stuff got ruined but fortunately the leak was found and eventually fixed but I'm still living in chaos and I've months of work to do throughout the hull to make sure this never happens again. That's a very cut down version of events but basically my home and possessions were in real danger of sinking. The reason I'm telling you this is that I totally sympathise with you regarding the stress you're going through. I've aged about 15 years in a week and I don't have youth on my side in the first place, far from it! All the best to you two, it'll come right in the end. That's what I'm constantly telling myself!! Shaggybear.

Dear JT. I want you both to know, that there are many of us on this comments list, who have also been through difficult times. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying we will continue to support you both and your channel. We've got you. Don't keep worrying, you have the strength of character and work ethic to come through this. You will come through this. My personal lesson, was to just slow down, take things one at a time, and trust yourselves. You'll be ok. Regards to you both, Nel.

Please take into consideration we in the UK are a nation brought up to be negative whingers and would complain we had to buy a ticket after winning the lottery.... It is hard, like it is everywhere, but our economy is strong and the is plenty of work, with the UK having some of the lowest unemployment figures across the western hemisphere. House prices are crazy, but we are a tiny Island with limited space and a bigger population by the minute. City prices can be outlandish, but the is still plenty of affordable housing to buy in less populated parts. We are London bred & born, and working class, but luckily put our kids through vocational education and helped them to get out of London , and both now own their own houses. Everything is possible on our Island. People are just too negative to want it. @@garibaldi54

I had the same problem 30 yrs ago. It cost me over£10k. It almost bankrupt me. I got 29p for every£ they owed me which meant I worked 3 months for free. Took me 2.5 yrs to recover. Now bills are 30 day payment or 10% per week for late payment. Put that on every invoice you send and explain from the beginning why!!

Worked as a contractor on a possible £400 Million contract, worked silly hours 60/70 a week literally slept in the workshop, beat every deadline, reached the final selection process & I worked out they owed me 24K, I left and they agreed to pay in installments, first cheque arrived with my name spelled wrong, bank wouldn't accept it. Long story short they didn't win the contract, a competitor waited till they went bust and got the assets, I got sod all.

JT, I am devastated that this company has done this to you. I worked for a small company once and it was ALWAYS the biggest companies who were the worst payers!! We had 90 day payment terms with these companies but they rarely paid on time and would often claim that our invoices had been 'lost'. All just delaying tactics. But team JT and Anna will rise above this and succeed in the end!!

The sad thing is, they'll probably file for bankruptcy, sell themselves off to a bigger company, and try to dodge payment. When you do go more in depth, show it all, put the company on full blast. It's bs they've done that. They had to have known they weren't in the best of spots when they reached out to you, many companies dial back when they know they're in that kind of position. Hate you've been going through that.

But surely when a company is bought, the buyer has to take on the liabilities as well as the assets, right? I'm not self-employed or own a business and live in the UK so not sure what it's like in terms of business law in Kentucky. But that seems reasonable to me.

We had to learn the hard way too. I recommend that in the future you apply the same requirements as we did for our business. For your big orders, require a deposit that covers your material cost and 25% of your labor ; and then balance prior to shipping. Also, when dealing with major companies, have a lawyer draw up paperwork for you that protects you from this happening again. Any company that refuses to sign the agreement is a red flag and probably not legit; legit companies will enter into some form of fair agreement.

So so sorry you have had this happen. We have just recently retired from running our own commercial construction company. It is unbelievable what goes on in the business world! We became very cynical about big companies. They become big by not paying their bills to those they know are not big enough to take them on for non payments. Twice in 25 years we did a “David and Goliath” and we won. It was a gamble as we drained our company and money against our homes and pensions to fight them and the stress for months was horrendous. One tip we learned was don’t go all in with one job or company. Spread the work about so at least some money will come from somewhere. All the very best to you and Hannah. Get your products out on line because if that company is bust, fishermen/fishing clubs/societies will still want your baits and you could sell direct. Good luck!

If bankruptcy in the USA is anything like it is in UK, you as a single customer will be at the bottom of the creditors pile. The accountants dealing with it will prioritise the larger creditors first; those who are probably owed millions. I wish you all the best and I hope you get through it.

Water going down the sink and then coming up at a lower point sounds like a classic blocked drain. It may indicate something that having the drain rodded will clear, if not a cctv survey should identify the issue. My guess is that as you have a new build it may be a build up of silt.

Hello JT. From working in purchasing, I learned that some big companies draw in small companies, refuse to pay, then offer a pittance for the small company, to take it over on the cheap. It sounds like your experience was different, but it is always worth investigating insurance on payments and transactions. I assume your work in the bank would mean you have access to advice.
@Wiiggz
@Wiiggz 3 ай бұрын
This is the problem with those big businesses. Over here in the the uk they have a 3 month policy so you get your money after 3 months. It’s difficult for small businesses to look after the overheads for that time when you’ve spent money on product and given your expertise to them, just to wait that long to get paid. I myself have lost money over the years from businesses filing for bankruptcy. If it’s anything like the uk, the banks and the government get whatever’s left over, the smaller fish like you and me get nothing. It’s gut wrenching, but you just have to keep going. Keep grafting those smaller orders and put your price up by a dollar per item or however you see fit. You’ll get through it, it’s definitely a lesson learnt for the next time you get big orders. Demand half up front and the other half when the product is ready for shipping.

Sad to say that all too often that “big deal” that a small company gets, can be a nightmare when dealing with a bigger company. Big companies will often dangle the bait to small companies that “this is a great opportunity” with hints of some big future benefit etc, just to screw over the small company. I had the owner of a small company I worked for 40 years ago explain to me why he wasn’t jumping at some big deal I thought was going to make the company. Sure enough, another small company took the deal, the big company screwed then over - they didn’t go bust, they just didn’t pay for ages, and the other small company went bust due to no cash flow to keep going with the bank. It’s terrible and you have my sympathy and hoping the company that owes you will service the debt soon. Also hoping those new house glitches get sorted soon - it must be so deflating to have had such hope and excitement to have the reality beset with initial problems - but long term, you seem to have an amazing plot of land and the future you two can build there looks so promising - and as long as you have each other, and the dogs, it can’t be too bad.

Hopefully you WILL get out of this, you will have a nice new house, a good business and good health for you+family, then you can take on the world! Good Luck!

I feel for you mate! It's horrible when a big company basically rips off a small company (even through bankruptcy) they must have seen it coming, they can also destroy a small company through their own negligence.

Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry your in this position JT. My fella owns his own small training company. Almost every job he did in Nov & dec have been hounding him for their certification. He has got bored with explaining that they have to pay for the course before they get them!! But what’s happened to you is so freaking disgusting. I hope you get it sorted eventually. ❤

So sorry to hear that this happened with the bait order. They totally abused your trust. I also found out the hard way recently (I take commissions from people for banners, quilts, blankets, bags, anything from material really) and now take deposits for orders and full payment before delivery. It turned out ok in the end (although I'm still waiting on a cheque that I will bank tomorrow) but it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth when all you've tried to be is kind and understanding. I'm sure you will get through this and im glad you're in your new house, just don't loose hope in people and take it a day at a time.

Absolutely keep every piece of communication for when you take them to court (I know you’re not stupid so you’d do this anyway) but make sure it’s absolutely EVERYTHING. As much proof you have with them saying what they’ll pay and when they’ll pay is essential. You’ll get this sorted hun. I know it’s stressful right now, but going down the correct route with lawyers etc will pay off in the end. Giving you the biggest squeeze from one of your many British cousins from across the pond. And you’re completely right, no matter how long it takes for you to get back to filming regularly, we’ll be here waiting for you buddy

Typical of a company going under is to run up unpaid debt with existing vendors, where they refuse to supply. So what do they do, they go to a new supplier knowing full well they cannot pay.

Hey JT! Have missed you! That sucks about the fishing company going bust like that. However, like you said: it's one of those bumps along the road of life that makes us wiser and stronger. We have faith in you! I know zilch about fishing but I enjoy watching you make those baits. It's so satisfying to watch and must be even more satisfying to do. I'm sure the business will pick up again. Wishing you and Anna all the best. Love from the UK. ♥
