There's a difference between living in a city and being a community member. I live in Fresno and I really appreciate and love this video. Most people overlook Fresno because of our poverty and crime rates but there's more to us. Fresno is so diverse and if you want to you can find a place or community that fits you. Fresno is beautiful. People can make negative comments about our city but unless they're actively doing something to combat the problem then they should be quiet.
@coulterwoolf53117 жыл бұрын
I live in Fresno. Born and raised. This video sucks. Here's why: Fresno is, in many ways, the opposite of what this video suggests. The hipster with the fixed-gear. The white cast. The promise of a blossoming economy (if one agricultural metaphor should not be applied to this town, it's that one.) I like Fresno. I live here by choice. But I like it because it sucks. Fresno is California's crappy-but-affordable city. The social and cultural scene is exactly what you pay for. There's a certain richness to Fresno those who would like to see it become the next Bay Area-type miracle don't understand about this place. I've lived in other towns, the wealth comes in, the richness goes out. Fresno doesn't need to reinvent itself, the focus should be on the present. My favorite part (the honest part) was when he drew a heart on the grizzly bear - right on the butthole, as everyone expected.

It depends what part of the city you live in. West Fresno is not to great. A bunch of gang bangers and tweakers are on the west. The east is whatever, the east has a bunch of crime in Roosevelt but has some amazing areas like sunny side. The north isn’t too. Pinedale and Hoover are definitely neighborhoods I would avoid. Decent food trucks. If you just avoid the gang bangers and tweakers, you could definitely live a decent life. However, the crime in Fresno has been going up rapidly. I moved out of Fresno about 5 years but one of my homies got shot up. He didn’t even bang. So, outside of Clovis, sunny side, Bullard, and a couple of other neighborhoods to live in Fresno. I would just avoid Fresno all together and live in Clovis or something. I currently live In San Francisco.

Okay I have to say it. I love my city. I love Fresno. I was raised here and every part of it is different. There's a little bit of something for everyone here. But let's be honest, "...an incredible transit system." No Fresno Area Express sucks. It's the worst transit system I've ever known with terrible service. They don't even run till midnight. I've been all over California and I can say without a doubt that FAX is the worst. But it doesn't have to be. We need a mayor who cares and is going improve FAX for the better with an understanding that thousands everyday rely on it to survive. I've lived here my whole life and every time FAX changes it's for the absolute worst. Less access to the people who need it most and higher fare prices. Fresno Area Express is a joke and any true Fresnan knows that. I can't think of how many times I've heard the city say, 'Oh we're gonna do this and that,' and it's just talk. Honestly, they should've left FAX out of the video because it's a black eye on the city. Come to Fresno it's a great city. There's lots to do and you won't go hungry but be smart use a vehicle or take a Lyft/Uber.

I never used FAX before the Fax15 and BRT upgrades, but I've been pretty happy with all of my experiences so far. It does sound like it was pretty horrible before the revamp though. 45-60 minutes between buses just doesn't cut it for a metropolitan transit service, and I hope they continue to make improvements to other routes. Typically I only have to wait about 10 minutes for a bus though so I can't complain.

Pretty embarrassing out of touch video. Born and raised in Fresno and this video shows nothing. It's what they want the idea of Fresno to be not the reality. Fresno struggles to much and ultimately poorly emulate ideas and concepts that work in big cities. Fresno is a City with deep agricultural roots and rather than embracing them it focuses on the Expansion of North Fresno. Not very much opportunity here other than bitwise. Hoping the opening of the Fulton mall will create a more steady businesses flow but has to come natural and not forced like peeves was which is why it failed

It's interesting to read the comments. Nothing is all good or all bad, but a blend of the two. The good: cost of living compared to the coastal areas, fresh produce, short commute times (growing up in SoCal, it would take 45 minutes to travel a few miles), meeting people from other countries and listening to their views on Fresno (mostly positive). The bad: heat (I don't care if it's a dry heat, it's still just hot), a lot of homeless (yes, I should be a little more charitable, but it's difficult when you've been hassled by them on the way to and from work), the horrible transit system. I can't drive, so my choice is Uber or FAX, and it's too dangerous to ride FAX so I'd rather pay for a ride-share. I could be swayed to go back to the bus if they would just figure out how to have cashless fares. I've used my cellphone in both Seattle, WA and Denver, CO, and it was nice to not figure out if I had enough change.

The people commenting most likely live north of Shaw or in Clovis. They’re the same ones who abandoned Downtown, SW Fresno, etc. for boring, suburban strip malls. They’re all angry and lying - I just moved here and it is revitalizing amongst the youth and the older, progressive people in Tower, Chinatown, and Downtown. It’s weird and annoying to keep having to hear old people complain about a city they abandoned in the 1900s because they didn’t want to live with non-white people moving into their now historic neighborhoods. Idk why they hate Fresno so much - there’s crime, drugs, and homelessness because it’s a big city - it’s weird that they still think we’re a small town. Miss me with that shit. It’s easy to complain and whine like a parasite - that energy could be used to become civically engaged and to create change. That’s what I’m trying to do and I’m having a lot of fun having pride in being a Fresnan! Btw, [shameless plug] I’m planning on getting our disgusting city flag redesigned in the future! Edits: typos

Also, it seems too agricultural, too small for a city person like myself that enjoys that hustle n bustle of a noisy city with world renowned landmarks, museums, restaurants, music and sport venues, major league sports, theaters, ethnic enclaves, subways and trains, parks, amusement parks, culture, multi culturism, international airports, galleries, the coast, beaches, higher education, infrastructure and great shopping. And yes the cost of living there may be cheaper but, I suppose its a balance of what's important to us as individuals, I mean I'd rather not die of boredom and do something exciting with my life than to move somewhere just because it's cheaper to live there but, where I wont be able to grow and experience life and the world around me. I know I could never live there but, to be fair, perhaps I should check it out sometime on one of my road trips to and from, that would be the only way since I know I would never make a trip to Fresno specifically but, yay for fresno👍🏼

Fresno is the 5th largest city in the entire state of California. It has 550,000 people just in the fresno city proper. So you can't say it's "too small". It's even bigger in population than the state capital Sacramento. Fresno has stuff going on, but just not in abundance. That's why it's often said that its a big city with a small town feel. Fresno State is a often ranked D1 college team for sports and a lot of professional athletes come throuh there. It's the closest big city to yosemite and other national parks. There is a lot there, but it depends what you are into. If you are the "SF", "LA" type, then only those kind of cities will suffice.
