Multiple problems here: 1) Front Wheel Drive Vehicle. He's towing the wrong end. 2) Way too slow both the hydraulics and the tow operator, If he keeps picking up cars like that he won't be doing it much longer. 3) I don't see any straps on those wheels, nor did he open the car, put it in Neutral and run the seatbelt through the steering wheel to stop the front end from shifting. There's no way that's a rear wheel drive car.
@2148aa3 жыл бұрын
I do agree. Most those cars are manuals with the transmission left in neutral and the parking brake set. Steering wheel key lock would keep the wheel from swinging. If wheels left off center or transmission left in gear with the brakes set. That car would never have been towed. Too much work.
@russgould7073 жыл бұрын
@@2148aa is that normal over there for people to leave a manual transmission in neutral when parking? We always leave it in first.
@2148aa3 жыл бұрын
@@russgould707 In the USA 97% of the cars are automatics. I was taught to leave the car in reverse because that may be the lowest gear. Most of our tow trucks are tilt beds with winches. If a parking lot is towed empty. The automatics are slid on and off the tilt bed. Tow trucks hate manuals because if it is in gear a backwards ran engine can cause damage if drive wheels turn. So they have to lift manual transmissions drive wheels straight up and drop straight down. Street parking violators that don't pay tickets get there car booted. Once I have seen a snow removal crew want a car removed and being told told by a tow truck to go to hell when being informed it was a manual and facing nose in to the curb. The car did get 8 feet of snow piled on it.

I've used that type of tow system, it's from the 80's, first built by a Swedish company, name starts with an "E", Ecka or some such, absolute worse system for hooking up at an angle. Guy must get paid by the hour, every truck I've driven had a manual throttle to speed things up. Pulling the car out with a winch would be much faster and easier on the body and using a pully off the bottom driver's side of his bed would had let him do it from where he was parked. Those caster gadgets can get you in trouble on a slope. Wheel lift style tow truck moves the center of gravity further back than the old sling style, that's why you see so many with a diesel engine and a heavy push bumper on the front as a counter weight, actually using one to push things leads to expensive damages, with that short wheel base on this truck anything much heavier than a motorcycle is going to be lifting his front wheels causing braking and steering problems. No safety chains, no magnetic turn signals, the steering wheel lock will probably keep the front wheels on the car straight but using a rope or the seat belt to tie it would be much safer, I've seen them break.

This is Paris, you wouldn't get a yank style pickup down half the streets, and they park so tightly you often wouldn't be able to get any sort of angle to pull the car out if the road is narrow. Someone commented that they would leave their wheels point to the kerb and in gear...people leave their cars out of gear in Paris streets and handbrake lightly applied as its quite common to see cars parked bumper to bumper, to get out (or in) its not unusual to see a driver nudging the cars either side to make room :)

In NYC this would have taken 30 seconds or less for a tow away and the driver would have never left his seat.
