I'm genuinely heartbroken over this one. Ding defended his awkward position so perfectly and then even put Ian on the back foot, clawing back the time disadvantage, only to then crumble right at the end. great commentary from Levy, as usual, love the quick verbal jab references to other sports, to other events, to the world, staying connected; the energy he brings to each video like a great action movie, never losing the plot, devoting enough time to both bad and good moves, capturing the gist of the positions, drawing arrows and highlighting like a gunslinger in the wild wild west even though he lives in the mild mild east; Levy should get a speeding ticket while he talks, but i'm sure he can talk his way out of the ticket. But what I love the most about Levy's mind-dazzling-earth-spinning-speed commentaries is that you can enjoy the ride without even feeling it and then the soft-lulling-you-to-sleep goodbye: "Now, gettaout of here!"

24:00 Game 17 of the 1978 Korchnoi - Karpov World Championship in Baguio is a very similar turnaround, and also brought about due to time trouble. But I agree, this one was astonishing. And by the way, I caught it live just as you did, Gotham. Nick :-)

Throughout 7 games, it's definitely noticeable that Ding is slowly getting better each game, probably because he's getting more comfortable with the environment (of the Finals). However he still have a recurrring problem, which is his time management skill. He definitely have better calculations than Ian, but that won't help if he uses too much time and let the pressure get to him.

@@Noobreturnedyou're wrong. Time in chess is there for a reason. Both players have great calculation skills, but in that case, every game would be a draw... clock is added to put those calculations under pressure. Ian shows he is clearly better at that than Ding.

Anyway was introduced to you via Northerlion. Watching him bumble in chess was fun and then I got your content opened up to me. I still don't play chess but try to have fun understanding the meta level of the game and laughing along at the jokes even though if left to my own devices you'd slap my wrist until I was pavlovian conditioned to never approach a chess piece again.
