A few months back we were lucky enough to have the Godfather of Gospel, Andrew Gouche come into the studio with us in NYC and film an entire course focusing on R&B and Gospel bass...
One of the topics covered within the course are 'shout' style bass lines... and this is why this video is a little different.
I wanna share one of the exclusive performances from Andrew's course...
Why?
Because it's one of the coolest... hippest... and craziest bass performances I've ever seen...
In fact, you'll see me in the video sitting right next to Andrew whilst he's tearing it up (for the most part I'm just giggling like a kid, because I can't believe what's going on, lol).
If you wanna check out someone playing some world-class shout bass lines like no one else in the world can do... then this video is for you!
As always, see you in the shed...
Scott 🙂
PS. If you wanna check out Andrew's full course so you can get the full scoop... go here: bit.ly/2OZGqSk
===
Right now over 10,000 bass players are enrolled in the Academy here at Scott's Bass Lessons and are making a real difference to their playing... if you're really serious about getting your bass playing together, click here to find out more and grab your 14 day free trial: bit.ly/2z9DFLT

Having grown up in the predominantly black church and having a dad who slays the Hammond b3… I will tell you there is nothing like the jams and grooves that we would get into. Some of thee best musicians come out of the black church. Of course with the internet now people are sharing and you get to peak in and study us. It’s definitely something special.❤️❤️

He's the bassist for Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles as well as lots of gospel stuff you can easily find on youtube: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnK3lKmoaN90nsk FYI, I'm not a gospel musician (or even a follower) either, but as a bassist there is so much you can learn from these guys.

wish churches in my country had this music culture too but even if it did it would not have all this soul. i know the apostolic church isn't about strictly music and it's just a tool to worship god, but it could be a way to attract people to the church.

FishCombo most definitely, but his use of hammer on’s and pull offs are a huge part of his technique which allows him to play extremely fast, fluid and precise fills almost effortlessly. Truly a master of the instrument and a great example of Gospel playing that’s been at the forefront of tremendously amazing rhythm sections for the last century at least.

I loved this video. The vibe is fantastic! What I noticed immediately, and then set the playback speed to 0.25 to catch this, is the so called "flying fingers". I would get so negative and down on myself for my own flying fingers and watched Scott's lessons on this to tame this issue. And I've practiced to reduce this. But when you watch a video like this and see the amazing technique, vibe, presence, and awesome sound, etc., etc., it's just makes me realize that it's not all absolutely vital to have "absolutely flawless" technique to be able to play amazing music in an amazing way! This video was just a huge encouragement to me! So called barriers are not necessarily barriers at all!! Thank you Andrew! God bless you!
@maurocaputi2700
@maurocaputi2700 6 жыл бұрын
My comments above are restricted to only the pinky and ring finger. None of my comments are meant to be negative at all. There's hope for my own freeting hand technique after all!
@kwyman986
@kwyman986 5 жыл бұрын
Mauro Caputi this man is a tremendous player, but please look elsewhere for a model for good technique. His fingers are definitely flying, which just slows you down and wastes energy. It can also impact your control. However WAY more importantly, his right hand is seriously bad. You are asking for a career-ending injury with such a severely bent wrist. I wish all the best for AG, and don't stop admiring his music...but he is not a good role model for good technique.
