Fun fact: Octopi, Octopuses, and Octopodes are all _technically_ correct plural terms, it really just depends on who you're talking to. Some believe the term Octopus is Greek in origin, others believe it is Latin, and the rest prefer plain English.

The three plurals for octopus come from the different ways the English language adopts plurals. Octopi is the oldest plural of octopus, coming from the belief that words of Latin origin should have Latin endings. Octopuses was the next plural, giving the word an English ending to match its adoption as an English word. Lastly, octopodes stemmed from the belief that because octopus is originally Greek, it should have a Greek ending.

When i was a kid we went on a vacation to the us. I was just playing at the beach when I found a very pretty shell under the sand. There was a snail inside and i played with it for hours, in my hand, in a bucket or in the water, didn't really matter. When we had to leave I put it back into the ocean even though i wanted to keep it. Where we live there is nothing dangerous in the water, except leeches and some mild jelly fish once in a while so I didn't considder a cute little snail to be so dangerous. I was pretty lucky that day.

"Octopi" may be incorrect because it's applying a Latin suffix to a Greek word, but "octopuses" is merely the adoption of an English suffix since the word is being used in English. Octopodes would be the proper suffix since it's a Greek suffix on a Greek word, but since words become accepted by being used wrong until they're right, at this point all three are acceptable.

You can have one of its relative as a pet/pest snail killer, it's known as the Assassin Snail (clea helena). They are a freshwater snail that feeds on others snails but if no snail is available they will eat leftover fish food, or auwfachs on biofilm that grows on any surface like rocks and the other aquarium decor. They hunt snails with a harpoon that envenomates their prey.

We have anti-venom for pretty much everything. That and anything that can sting you is going to try and run away first. Those venomous and poisonous creatures don’t actively hunt people down to try and sting them. The worst thing that could happen at the beach is probably a shark attack but those are rarely lethal. Australia is a pretty safe place to live. I’m glad we can go camping without worrying about being mauled to death by a bear, wolf or mountain lion.

This would have been great to see four months ago, before I had one in my pocket for over three hours. I only didn't get stung because I got curious about what kind of shell it was, looked it up and then noticed that the snail inside of the shell was still alive. I kept it for a while so it would be easier to tell the exact specs, just incase it did sting me and I didn't notice. Besides the whole painful death and all, he made a pretty good short-term pet.

4:10 Konwa, the Crab-eater Snail, as we know it back home. (much larger and its' venom is far more potent but will avoid bipeds/much larger potential predators by slithering into the sand from its' shell) There's a lot of sea creatures back home that whilst gorgeous, are absolutely a viable threat, like, the very large carnivorous starfish that can and do go after bipeds. If one of those attaches to your leg, you're done. Of course, there's many a land animal that could just as easily devour you, and yet, it doesn't happen that often.

This reminded me of when i was a kid and while at the beach once, i was dipping my feet in the water(i'm terrified of going into Oceans now because of what could be in them) and then out of nowhere, i'm yanked from behind by the arm away from the water's edge. I cried out in surprise and pain(cause jesus it freaking hurt) and then heard my mom yelling at me for not seeing something. I legit went "what the heck mom!?" and she told me i was inches from a Jellyfish and did not see it at all. Instant forgiveness there. She thinks it might have been dead because they don't come close to people like that but dead or not, i would've been stung. Thanks mom!

I adored the whole Avatar: The Last Airbender reference with Koh and Aang in the spirit world, since fear is what Koh was trying to get from Aang in order for the Avatar to make a facial expression so that he may steal his face. If it weren’t for Aang to know of that, he would have been stuck there forever. Fear can indeed be a byproduct of ignorance! By the way, very informative video. Adored it. 😄
