If you have a smaller lawn then, yes, the Spectracide with the orange top is definitely the way to go. I usually keep a bottle of the concentrate and keep a gallon mixed up in a 1 gallon pump sprayer. I'll walk the lawn every couple of weeks and spot spray. I have used the premixed sprayer bottle before, but I found that I prefer the hand pump sprayer better. I have found that the Spectracide will handle the vast majority of the weeds I get in my Bermuda grass in Georgia. I will occasionally add in some Image Kills Nutsedge in the Spring if I start seeing some Poa. But, as you say, pre-emergent is the key to preventing weeds before they appear. Because the Spectracide has 4 active ingredients, I don't really have to worry about identifying every single weed. It will take care of pretty much everything I see (except Poa and Dallis Grass). The Spectracide isn't super concentrated (5 oz per gallon of water), but it is pretty cheap ($10/40 oz). I'll add in a splash of surfactant and maybe a bit of blue dye and I'm good to go. There are plenty of super concentrated, and much more expensive, products out there, but I don't go through even 1 bottle of Spectracide per year. So why would I buy something that's $100 and makes 100 gallons? I'd never use it all!

Can you please provide an annual program (northern Illinois, rey grass and I seed only in the fall) using the liquid. It may be a little expensive, but with your suggestion of buying only once then using concentrate is a great idea. I am not lazy, just a little nervous using the granular stuff. Thanks.
@BudgetLawns9 ай бұрын
You need to look for your local extension office and it should have annual calendars for your grass type and location. That's how I developed my program from my local extension calendar. As far as herbicides go, there's not much more I can give you than what the label says. I can't add to that as label is law. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

IMO the method of choice for apply herbicide in your lawn depends on the size of the area you have to cover. Those ready to use (RTU) jugs are good for the typical housing units sitting on postage sized lots, which Budget Lawns seems to have; if you live on larger lots with bigger lawns, those tiny little jugs and its freebie little sprayer isn't going to cut it. If you have larger property, a battery powered 2 gallon or backpack style 4 gallon sprayer is going to be your friend. You can spray a variety of chemical with them, for me it is mostly lawn chemicals and also pesticides during spring/fall season to establish a chemical barrier around my property. One recommendation I do have for those looking for a budget: Don't buy those chemicals, including concentrate, from your typical big box home improvement stores such as Lowes and Home Depot. Look for a farm supply store such as Tractor Supply and Coastal Farm etc. They will have similar chemical concentrate is larger jugs and cheaper prices.

Lawn care companies will use commercial products that last longer than residential so they can get started early and it won’t matter.

I have premix from last year. Can I apply after the rain or during light rain? And it reads spray only on weeds not lawns as well as won’t hurt lawns…
@BudgetLawns9 ай бұрын
You want to apply when the plants are dry and no rain is expected. I like it to be dry for 24 hours after spraying. Double check the label. If it says won't hurt lawns it will be safe on grass but not on weeds. That's a selective herbicide. You want to be sure on this. A non-selective herbicide will kill anything it touches. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

The Weed Stop for Lawns you use to prevent crabgrass also kills existing weeds? I have henbit, its bad.
@BudgetLawns10 ай бұрын
It is supposed to depending on how it is applied. I apply only as a pre-emergent and water it in immediately. That washes it off the weeds and therefore doesn't effectively act as a post emergent. I do not prefer granular post emergent control. Hope this makes sense. Henbit can be bad if it's mild late in winter and early spring. It will die when it gets hot. Thanks for the question and watching.

A lot of truth in this video Travis! Like you said your experiences and i know you know everyones situation isn't the same. After many many years carrying a 2 gallon pump up sprayer spraying roundup twice a year on my two acres i finally broke down a few years back and bought a good back pack sprayer. Used a lawn tractor riding lawn mower for years which took 6-8 hours to mow my property because zero turn mowers were somewhat of a new thing so $$$$$$$ then years latter when i could afford and prices came down i bought my fist one. When we moved hear i had tons upon tons of gravel brought in for my driveway and spread it by hand with a shovel and a wheel barrel lol i was younger and just did what i needed to get the job done. We all have to start somewhere and at the end of the day if the job gets done well that's what counts! 👍💯♥️🇺🇸

Thanks for watching. Pre emergent means the product keeps the weeds from coming up. Post emergent means the product kills the weeds that have already popped up. The products that say preventer are the pre emergents. The weed killers are the post emergents. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Hello, I was messaging you earlier in the other video. I’ve been enjoying getting educated with your videos. In this video you showed your lawn when you first bought the house, that’s how mines look maybe a little worse lol. I feel like there is hope. Lol. A couple of questions, do you still recommend adding baby shampoo to this weed liquid before spraying? I’ve used the hose sprayer attachment before and I’ve noticed I run out quickly and is kind of all over the place. I know it will take me longer but I’m thinking of using the pump sprayer and really making sure the weeds are getting treated, thoughts? Last thing for the most part are there safe to use let’s say around my palm trees that have e weeds around? I can’t thank you enough for all you insight.
@BudgetLawns10 ай бұрын
Glad they're helping. If I'm using a sprayer, I would add baby shampoo. If you're using a hose end and running out quickly you may be walking too slow. Check your square footage and judge your walking pace by how much the bottle covers. Be careful spraying around any desirable plants or trees. Weed killers can damage or harm them if too much spray gets on em.
