I just want to say this because it’s the first time I’ve seen him spoken about in a while and he is my favorite player… Karpov spoke out against the war in Ukraine. He was a Russian politician. He “fell down the stairs” after and was in critical condition. He was my favorite chess player before this; but to put asides one’s country to do the right thing, knowing the potential consequences? That is admirable. Suffering those consequences only makes his action more heroic in my eyes. I’m not sure if many people in the chess community know this but I hope that some do. There are even rumors spread online that he supported the war, it’s awful to see. He was put in an induced coma due to his injuries. There are articles online you can read if you’d like.
