In tonight's Habs Lightning game, the Habs scored one of the strangest goals I have ever seen. Should this have counted? Let me know below! #nhl #nhlhighlights #montrealcanadiens #tampabaylightning #hockey

Fair goal. No whistle, no stoppage.

Well there is no pressure on the goalie , thats why the ref didnt blow the whistle. If tampa didnt stop to play there would be no goal for sure but for me that is a good goal

I love how Tampa complained like it was anyone else's fault. First thing taught to 6 year olds, play until the ref blows the whistle.

I've seen the refs blow the whistle to freeze the play when the goalie has held onto it for a far shorter amount of time than in this clip, if the whistle didn't go then I guess it's play on 🤷🏻♂️

It sure is a goal ever coach says play hard between the whistles

This is on the refs for not blowing the whistle. The Montreal goalie held on long enough to the puck to cause a stoppage of play. Makes me wonder if there is a set length of time that a goalie has to hold onto the puck before a stoppage of play is considered.

Yeah I agree

Usually, it's 3 seconds the goalie has to hold on before the ref blows the whistle. If there's no pressure from the opposing team, the ref will tell the goalie to play it. The only way this would have been disallowed is if the intent to blow the whistle was there. It's on Tampa assuming the whistle had blown and maybe the guy that plays the music. We (the Rangers) had a goal disallowed because the ref lost sight of the puck in the net, but the he assumed the goalie had it so the intent to blow the whistle was there before the puck crossed the line.

Mm no. Often when it's done like that, a player is approaching the net. Hence the net pressure. The closest Tampa forward was skating away from the net before any reasonable time of possession by the goalie. If you listen to games without commentators, you'll often hear refs yell at goalies to play it if no ones near, they're freezing it way out from their net, or other similar cases. In all likelihood, the ref was going to freeze the play, decided not to when the closest player turned back and would've told the goalie to play it, but he did before that and the Canadians were aware of what was going on. This is only on the Tampa players for not doing basic hockey 101. Play until the whistle and never leave a play in the refs hands to decide.

Between the phantom GI call against the Rangers and this, it was a bad couple of nights for the lightning in terms of officiating. It has to be noted, the TV timeout light also came on and the arena started playing music and the light show, so clearly this was just a cascade of things happening all at once.

Was a cascade of events of a bunch of people not doing their job properly. The was no pressure on the goalie and he decided to play the puck. Tampa offence wasn’t doing their job. Whoever works the commercial light, music and lighting wasn’t doing their job properly as they went ahead with commercial break without hearing a whistle. This is called complacency. The only people actually doing their jobs were the refs and Montabeau

It should’ve been no goal and the Montreal goalie gets a penalty for delay of game. That’s the exact rule from the rule book in this situation.
@Mathew-xr7kt5 ай бұрын
@@EthanStDenis-bn1xb lol delay of game for what? The whistle wasn’t blown.. how exactly do he delay the game?
@EthanStDenis-bn1xb5 ай бұрын
@@Mathew-xr7kt Delay of game for the goalie for holding onto the puck for over 3 seconds with no intent of playing the puck with no Tampa players near the goal. The goalie can’t hold the puck for that long.
@Mathew-xr7kt5 ай бұрын
@@EthanStDenis-bn1xb lol you obviously don’t know how hockey works. Goalie was on his knees, made the save. That’s how a goalie freezes the puck dumb dumb. The ref decided not to blow the whistle, so goalie played the puck. There no rule saying the goalie can’t hold onto the puck for more than 3 seconds. How else do you expect a goalie to freeze the puck. I’ve never heard more asinine statement lol

It’s the habs. , You can give them a couple more like that and they will still lose. Haha. Bottom dweller team

No goal and goalie should get a delay of game penalty. I’m a ref and that’s the rules in the rule book itself.
@Tazbev845 ай бұрын
Key thing you're missing. No whistle was ever blown, no pressure on the goalie from the other team. and if you look at the play from another angle the ref near the net waved Montembeault to play the puck. "Always play to the whistle"
@EthanStDenis-bn1xb5 ай бұрын
@@Tazbev84 you don’t need pressure on the goalie for a stoppage of play. The goalies body language was to keep the puck. He had no intention of playing it and the play was done within the 6 seconds he held it in his glove. There is 2 options for this play. Delay of game penalty for the Montreal goalie or an intent to whistle which would negate the goal.
@Tazbev845 ай бұрын
@@EthanStDenis-bn1xb the ref near the goal waved Monty to play the puck or didn't you catch that?

@@Tazbev84 indeed I saw the very small movement of his had with no words said at all.
@Tazbev845 ай бұрын
@@EthanStDenis-bn1xbIt's ok to be wrong. If Monty didn't play the puck he would have gotten a delay of game penalty. Moral of the story for Tampa: always play till the whistle.
