There is more to music of the past than just - Classic Rock...like Classic Jazz, Classic disco, classic electronic music, classic euro-dance, classic new age and so on...every genre has it's classic and any of it is way better (in general) than anything, that mass produces these days and no i don't mean indie artists like this, i mean mainstream music...my favorite classic band (well not the band, more like a project) is Michael Cretu's Enigma and that got little to do with rock of any sorts (other than maybe rare usage of electric guitar in some parts once in a blue moon...)

Been following Ella since her early Reddit days. The real deal, experimental, finding her voice, real talent but also putting in the work, spending time in the woodshed and then appearing effortless. A couple of music enthusiasts began to give artists a chance to sing without all the commercials bells and whistles. Look at how well-known and respected Tiny Desk is today. The thing I love about this is it really takes me back to something similar to what radio used to be. Where you'd have a local DJ who could hear something badass and decide they were going to give it exposure to their larger audience. My favorite band Rush would have never made it out of playing bars if it wasn't for a DJ doing that. Pre-ordered the EP she has coming out, recommend everyone who can does the same so we can support people who actually write, sing, and play instruments themselves.

Rick, society needs a qualified captain to steer us on the exploration of new music. You may not have seeked-out this role, but we’ve nominated you. Give it a shot. We have nothing to lose, and so much to gain. There was Ed Sullivan, The Midnight Special, and many other platforms where people got introduced to fresh voices and sounds. You can be that for this current moment in time. Unearth just a couple hidden gems, and whatever impact they have on lives will be because you stepped up and took the lead. Go for it. You have our trust.

Brava Ella! You remind me of my sister, with her flute and piano, sitting on our roof playing Scarborough Faire for the critters in the woods behind our house. A true and honest muse! Stay this honest and your future is assured!

This is what we need. Positivity! Focusing on what's good instead of what's not. Thank you, Rick! For giving great artists like Ella a chance to reach more people.

Artist spotlight - what a beautiful idea Rick! I love that you don't just "complain about the kid's music nowadays", but actually show the positive side of what you love. And Ella - wow👌🔥🔥amazing!

I wonder how many of today's chart-topping artists would sound this good playing an instrument and singing, without autotune or any other production tricks...

I'm sure there are surprises such as T-Pain, but I'm guessing that most artists on the Hot 100 are hired guns by the labels for the labels which is why we never hear from the "artists" after a year or less.

Fujii Kaze from Japan has an incredible singing voice for a pianist. He reminds me of Daryl Hall - a lot of charisma and voice control. (No one in ‘Western’ pop other than Charlie Puth perhaps)

yes! This is what was mentioned in your Sting interview regarding where music is today and that optimistically, there is a way to the other side. This is the doorway with young artists like Hohnen.

I get a really grounded vibe from these videos. Having spent 20 years playing music and slugging it out across the planet, I feel a great connection to all of these topics and interviews. Thank you for such a great 'channel' and a friendly voice.

Finally ! I like to see what you think about music you dislike but, really like to see what you like in new music. And its an oportunity to musicians that need to be heard ... more than just those that need to be remembered!

“Honest Mistake” is probably one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in a long time. It brought me to tears. Definitely a new follower. Her KZbin video of this song is equally beautiful. Finally something beautiful…I keep repeating the word, because we’re starved for it as a people, and every now and then it manages to break though this nihilistic world we’ve been living in. Thank you, Rick, and thank you, Ella Hohnen-Ford.

I don’t know just what’s more important, this amazing artist or the fact that you’ve discovered perhaps your place in this world. You are that ONE human with the skills, the knowledge to recognize what perhaps no one else can, the value of those who don’t “go with the flow” or follow the market, just what’s in their heart. Thank you for bringing me to the doorstep of this fabulous artist. Please, please keep this up. I will follow the progress of these discoveries with an open heart and mind. Thank you, thank you…..
