Ten years out from leaving Christianity. The guilt passes, the real pain is your parents refusing to see YOU and not who they wish you were. I can tell them explicitly that I identify as agnostic, but every time I express some inner sadness or anxiety they take it as an opportunity to bring it back around to God.

There is a big difference from Christianity with its churchianity. Jesus wants a true relationship with us...there's a big big difference. I finally realized the beauty of fellowship with Jesus and realized so many churches have cut Him off as the head of the church. When I realized this being the case and saw Jesus on His throne the Holy Spirit filled me as when I was first saved plus a deepening of His kindness, tenderness, guidance and love. Please pray for His forgiveness and pray and learn to trust Him to reveal Himself to you. Eternity is forever to be cast out of His presence. Please don't harden your heart.

It's what heavily indoctrinated people do. They do not put any worth on themselves or others. People only have in relation to their positions with god. The individual doesn't matter. Their problems mean nothing. Feelings, thoughts, dreams mean nothing. This is beyond sad. They are nothing more than glorified cults.

God isn't religious and doesn't judge. God is love and God/source is spirit. Jesus spoke many truths along with Buddha and lao tzu. There are some truths in every religion and love is all the core of everything. Jesus is pure light and The Buddha was also enlightened with that same light. We are all interconnected and One forever. This is the nature of reality. Reality is perfect but our misperceptions of reality are imperfect. God is with in you and I but that is not to say we are God. We are like a water drop of love and God is the Ocean. Everything is okay and all is well.

Your parents care about you. They do not want to see you go to hell. Neither do I! After this life, you will either be in heaven - where the weather is perfect! - or you will be with others who have done wicked things. For example, have you lied or stolen? Remember, there are no lying thieves in heaven! Instead, Jesus said that you will cast out and handed over to the 'torturers.' Does that seem unfair to you? Consider that lying is wicked. Wicked people will be with other wicked people. Wicked people do wicked things - like torture other people. Here on earth, God has given us police officers and jails for people who do horrendously evil things. Yet, you forsake any sort of justice when you forsake God! You are choosing the 'might makes right' of Darwin! Jesus said to those determined to go to hell to 'buy friends with money, however tainted, that they may welcome you into their eternal habitations." I do not know what kind of place hell is, where friends must be bought with money, where the brutal and savage are the rulers; I am just eternally grateful I am not going! In Japan, a poor teenage girl was kidnapped and tortured mercilessly for six weeks, finally begging for death. It is a tragedy played out in an infinite loop in hell! In fact, hell is worse than anything, anything, you could experience in this life. If you are living as if there is no God, you sure as hell better be right! I hope you will have a good talk with God about this! He says, "Come, let us reason together." He does not want you to be a mindless puppet, but created you with a brain - and, I hope, more common sense than to go to your grave with the anger of God on your life. I hope you make things right! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Oh I can so relate. I'm 23 and was raised in the church. For the first time ever I allowed myself to question Christianity, religion, and spirituality when I was 22. I regressed back into Christian beliefs but lately, I've been noticing so many inconsistencies and red flags with it. I feel so much better with being honest with myself regarding the things I have seen. It's empowering to recognize that I don't need to follow anyone's rules. I left churches but I didn't go braindead either. Just because you don't fear the lake of fire does not mean you're not going there. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Psalms 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoSYk6h9o62JkNk I posted what you have coming to you in your judgment with God (if you don't change) and why. So God has ALL the proof and you have none. So you have to ask yourself one question, "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya...punk!? Wise up and choose God. It's only the BIGGEST decision you'll make in your life. Even the best of luck can't help you, so go with the sure winner... Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

@Idyllic 🏯 you're correct. They are going to have to face much more too. They will be severely shamed as they will know they have no hope at the point because their empty pride in this life was more important to them. Then they'll be thrown into the lake of fire for the 2nd and final death. How did they get around the first verses of the bible with God creating and giving life? Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. We KNOW these laws. We have NO doubts about them. We also KNOW that the laws of nature can't come about without a Lawgiver, God. Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis. God is the reason for us and all we have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJqwoq2ElL6Gjrc The odds are NOT there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWLCfHiMlqisl6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4icmJStr79_qc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpXEooarqdlol9k

It is absolutely true that " the truth will set you free! " When you become a real truth seeker following truth where it leads you, what's awakened within you is your child-like natural curiosity. It's what makes us human and gives us our intuition about discovery. That natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge about EVERYTHING is suppressed when religious indoctrination tells believers that all the truth and authority they need is provided to them through their holy books full of myths and traditions (hence all the circular reasoning and cognitive dissonance). It makes for too many intellectually lazy people who struggle with critical thinking and logic. We have the gift of the scientific method which works as our ONLY reliable tool to knowledge, so far. Keep up the good work!

I reneged Christianity about 19 years ago when I was 23. It truly is freeing to let go. I totally understand the feeling of being told how to think and knowing deep down something isn’t right. I can relate to this so much. I’ve been going to church since I was a baby and over the past 3-4 years I’ve been very critical of what I learned as a child. I’m also really into philosophy and meditation and learning about how we know what we know and how we know it’s true. I now consider myself agnostic and there are people in the church that keep trying to force me back in and tell me to just pray about it. Praying has never really worked for me. I totally get what you mean with the things that the church says is bad. For example certain kinds of music, shows, lifestyles etc. Idk where I’m at now and I think that’s okay. Thank you for sharing your testimony

Prayer alone will only take you so far. Its more important to act and do what you need to do then to pray. Prayer is a support system, its the steps you take that define success. Just praying alone is blind faith and it does nothing, its like seeing a rope from a rescue helicopter and saying no i wont grab the rope but i will pray for help.

@@Odo-so8pj Hah hah hah ha ha...... I spent years and years reading the bible memorizing the word and trying to justify all the inconsistencies. If Deuteronomy 4:2 says "Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you". Then you come to find out that sometimes the laws from the old testament apply but at other times they can be ignored because Jesus died and rose again, and people have seen the face of God but at other times it says nobody can see the face of God, and there's no evidence that Adam and Eve existed, that there was a global flood, and the contradictions just add up. Trust me, I wanted and tried to believe but at this point it is intellectually dishonest for me to say "yes this is something I believe". After so many foundational years of living the church life a piece of your identity is lost when you decide to unfollow. You're so right. I left after 46 years, many of those years spent diligently studying and seeking to be closer to that idea of God. It was not easy, and there was indeed a mourning process. It's like someone yanking a leg out from under a three-legged stool. You realize so much of your life was being propped up by that leg, and you're left wondering what to prop it up with now. But the discomfort of mourning and the empty space Christianity left have been worth the sense of joy, freedom and lightness that I have now that I'm not under that burden of Christianity.

In other words, you went braindead. How did you get around the first verses of the bible with God creating and giving life? I don't go to church but I sure didn't go braindead either. So if you want to pretend to be smart, please give me the laugh by giving your science how creation really happened by natural means. Also, throw in how we got the laws of nature, naturally. I’m 69yr old. 40+ yrs out from leaving Christianity. I can say that many things which you said resonated with me…kinda sounded like myself talking. I went through probably a period of 6 months of guilt. Then a period of feeling kind of lost, since really my whole life centered around Jesus. Then I started to discover things that the world hard to offer: science, astronomy, poetry, philosophy etc. It was like the world opened to me, and I was instantly free. And I haven’t missed christianity for a second. I did miss the community…it’s like instant friends when you join a church of like minded people, but not enough to consider going back. Anyway, in retrospect, guilt is just something that needs to be worked through. After all, you’re having tendencies moving away from what was the center of your life. For me, my path was basically, a period of guilt, a period that I’d consider a void, then absolute joy and freedom coming out the other side.

@@Larry30102 i too wonder if these guys ever use any logic or if they ever have any brains. Something isn't just true because the bible has said so. Instead of him arguing out soundly, he is copy pasting scriptural verses here. Now, the conclusion that is drawn from quotes of a false and lying scripture will always be a false and lying conclusion. It's illogical to quote scripture as an evidence of what it says. What @kinggnej5041 is doing can be liked to this, he is not a muslim per say, let's assume i'm a muslim, then when i meet a comment where he is demonizing islam/mohammed, i start replying to him with tons of verses from the quran in an attempt to force him convert to islam. 😑It's the same folly he is doing here. It's not like the bible is the standard/dictionary of truth that has been established through experiments, observations and irrevocable evidences! No, in fact, they don't have any evidences to all the bullshit written in the bible. The entire book is based on and taken by faith and nothing else. Now, the reason someone leaves christianity is because he is doubting the book, and has lost faith in it, and seen that the book is lying and demands an evidence for any slight thing it says. It is only a retarded mind that will again turn around and quote the same book in such an argument. If i believe the bible is false, of which it is true the bible is false, cause it's just some stupid shit coined by stone age men, if i believe it's false, it's so including the verses the guy is quoting. I had a very long, painful, lonely crisis of Faith, starting at 21,and had to re-think my Catholic upbringing and conversion to "born again" Christianity at 17. Subsequently I indulged in a fascinating study of Comparative Religion and the whole area of the human impulse towards Spirituality. Libraries are the best! You have a collection in one spot of the thoughts of the greatest minds humanity can offer up,over millennia, and it's close to a house of worship for me. I consider myself to be a person of Faith, in a congregation of one - but my people are Humanity. My faith isn't a blind, cheap, tawdry thing, but a hard-won,battle-tested inner resource. Until I was 25 years old, I firmly believed in God, in his teaching and that no matter what happened in the world, my faith would not be shaken because I knew he existed and that he had a plan for everybody... but then something happened and my faith was shattered in a million piece: my grandpa died. My grandpa was literally the best person in the world. He was kind, compassionate, would have helped anybody with any kind of problem without hesitation. He never got angry ( and trust me, some people did to him things so terrible that defining them as "unforgivable" would be an understatement) and he spent his last 30 years teaching me and my older sister everything he knew. He was the kind of guy who everybody would love to have in his life. If you searched the whole world, you wouldn't find a single person who would be able to say something bad about him. He was more of a father to us more than our own father. In his last days, we knew he was dying. He had fought against a terrible disease for more than ten years and in the end they sent him home to die when there was nothing else to do. The doctors told us to stay close to him because he would not have survived for long. That was the first time that I asked for something while praying. I didn't ask for God to heal him. I simply asked for my grandpa not to suffer through his last days. My prayers were not listened. My grandpa spent his last 3 days screaming and begging to be killed to end his suffering. His screams will taunt me for the rest of my life. That's when I started doubting my faith. If God, which is supposed to be an Almighty, omnipresent, all knowing and benevolent being, would do nothing to help someone like my grandpa spend his last days peacefully with his family, then he cannot be as good as he claims to be. From that point onward, I started to rationalize anything I read in the bible and anything I supposedly knew about God and a lot of fallacy and inconsistencies started to pile up. So, in the end, after a long journey, I simply stopped believing in the Christian idea of God. PS: For those curious: no, my life and my behaviour didn't change. I stopped going to church and praying, that's basically the only difference ( my "Prayer" time was swapped with a " contemplation" time, in which I search information about the world and think about the world and how I can make it a better place, even if only by a bit). I never did good deeds because I thought I would be rewarded by God but simply because I had no reason not to do them so that didn't change. I enjoy helping people in need and that won't change. PPS: before anybody come out with the " If you left your faith, then you were never truly a believer" bullcrap, please don't. You don't know me, nor anybody else you preached that sentence to. Telling someone you know nothing about that the faith they spent years cultivating wasn't true simply make you look like an asshole who never learned what empathy and good manners are.

But your grandfather is free and though he went through much pain, he sees it all from a new perspective. God is there and he is in you and all around you. You are much more than you think and he LOVES YOU. Because God is One with you. Don't think that God will condemn you because of your struggle of belief. He only cares of what you use your life for, will it be for good or evil? And when you exit your body it will not be the end, for you will learn from the life you once had and will experience a new journey. My beloved! Be strong! Be brave! Don't let the burdens of Confusion weigh you down, God has you and go with love, peace, joy and bring positive energy to many. You are what you think and believe and your thoughts effect the universe around you. That is what others call :the law of attraction" but no it is the oneness of God and you and me as well for we are one. Your Grandfather is safe and free and everything will be okay!

Thanks so much for your honesty, my heart is soo with you. For me it was the list of "Do's and Don'ts" that made me feel inadequate and further away from God. Finally I decided to leave church, not saying everyone should, but I needed to be uninfluenced and started studying the New Covenant on my own. See in the beginning I was sold out on the unconditional love and safety in the Saviour. Although having good intentions, when churches preach law it becomes a whole legalistic religious organization that robs us of our true identity and freedom that we are supposed to have. What I found is that religion says "Fix yourself and God/we will accept you" while the original Gospel says "Come just as you are and I will give you righteousness/(okayness) as a gift". Religion says "You have to work hard to stay forgiven and right" while the true Gospel says "With a single sacrifice I have made you perfectly accepted and irreversibly forgiven for ever". Religion says "You have to work to get close to God" the Gospel says "You cant get closer to your Father as He is in you and you are in Him". Religion says "God is in love with a future version of you" while the Gospel of Grace says "Dad loves you as you are right now unconditionally and is NEVER GOING TO CHANGE in this irreversibly restored relationship". Religion says "You are not good enough" and the true Gospel of Grace says "You are fully accepted, with a new heart which is righteous, holy and blameless. That's your identity, now live from your heart and be yourself". Religion is a bunch of rules to follow as a prerequisite to acceptance versus the Gospel of Grace providing immediate irreversible acceptance which will produce the "works"/performance over time, but our performance is SECONDARY to the "Work Christ did". This reveals a bit of what I found please see this link for more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHnbk417rMebfsk This is 8 years later, in the mean-time I started a small bible study group where everyone is on the same level and unconditionally accepted, where their opinion is valid and important. God's love.

@@Baa975 I realize that there are many people who still fear hell, even long after they lose their religion. It's a psychological trap, which is one of the many reasons why I hate evangelical Christianity. It's not fair to the person, who gets indoctrinated young by such beliefs, and then those images and that fear gets hardwired into them. But I think it might help people to understand where the idea of hell came from......we can map it's origins in religions that came before Christianity, from the ancient myths of the Greek underworld to Zoroastrianism, and Mesopotamian myths. Early Judaism never had a hell, and books like the book of Enoch helped pave the way for future borrowing, leading right into the new testament where the gospel writers were borrowing heavily from all kinds of influences from the ancient world. Same way with Satan, and demons. All of these things evolved over time after endless borrowing, retelling, and fabrication coming from other earlier belief systems. That's what helped me get over the fear of hell- knowing where the ideas came from. After all - how could hell be real, if it was borrowed from earlier myths that Christians themselves don't even believe in?

I am 28, I grew up catholic just by name and I did feel guilt all the time and felt I was not worth it. I became agnostic for 7-8 years. Three years ago I felt something different, emptiness had taken over my life and then I felt the call from Jesus, I can say that even though I was attracted to find more about Christianity, I also was and sometimes am stuck in my old ways and views. But since I became a Christian actively looking to learn the word of God, I have found peace; that peace that is beyond understanding. I feel relieved and guilt is not there anymore, I am finally happy and I have seen a true transformation with in me that is still progressing. All I can say is sometimes when we grow up in a religion we my be doing things or following paths without really choosing them for ourselves, just because is expected of us. I have seen this problem with many born in church Christians, is different when you didn't have God at all and then you understand what was lacking in your life. Just because you are going to church it doesn't mean that you are a Christian. Are you transform? Maybe you were not in the first place...

This Sunday morning, I am alone. I’ve gone through an epic philosophical and “spiritual” journey and I wouldn’t change it for the world. My perception of “God” is much more Majestic and cannot be explained through Christianity. My life is much more free since I have shed the shackles of belief in an afterlife and messiah. With that freedom has come understanding but also alienation. My heart is much more open to love but the people I want to share it with the most have built a wall between me and them. There is a feeling inside me of loneliness that hurts deeper than anything I’ve ever experienced and a guilt that eats at me because I know I’ve done it to others.

If God cannot be defined by Christianity what can He be defined from. We can both agree that there must be historical evidence for God. Jesus existed and scholars and historians believe that, the bible is the full of surroundings of israel and history of israel. A book and history must contain God in it. If it doesnt contain these two things at least then the "path" should not be followed.

How did you get around the first verses of the bible with God creating and giving life? I don't go to church but I sure didn't go braindead either. So if you want to pretend to be smart, please give me the laugh by giving your science how creation really happened by natural means. Also, throw in how we got the laws of nature, naturally. Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis. God is the reason for us and all we have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJqwoq2ElL6Gjrc The odds are NOT there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWLCfHiMlqisl6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4icmJStr79_qc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpXEooarqdlol9k

Just happened on this video today. Mine is a 15-20 year journey and though I've had doubts about walking away from christianity along the way, I've always come back around to knowing that I did the right thing. At the root of that is a "paradigm shift" about the meaning of the word "disillusioned". The dictionary meaning contemplates it from a couple of angles. First, "disappointed in someone or something that one discovers to be less good than one had believed." So, there's that "you let me down" angle. You are not what I thought you were, or you didn't do what I thought you'd do. Another possible meaning is "cause (someone) to realize that a belief or an ideal is false.". For me, I came to realized that I was "disillusioned" by christianity because I came to see it as it truly is - racist, cruel, demeaning, etc., etc., etc.,. I moved beyond my illusions to see the reality. So, to me, disillusionment is a good and positive thing since it sees the reality and not the lie.

Brother, you have missed the point of Christianity. It is not just a religion. Christianity is a relationship with the God of the universe. If you’ve looked at Christianity as simply a religion then you never truly understood Christianity. The core of Christianity is a relationship. This is a constant conversation with the Lord. I hope that you will come back and re-evaluate again! No ill intentions! Hoping that the best happens for you! Have a good day man!

I think you are mistaking Christianity (a religion) with spirituality (connection to our relationship with God in our personal experience). Not saying anything is right or wrong, and I don't mean to offend. I personally think many Christians are good people, but many are not as well as many atheists (or any other system of belief or non belief) are good and many are not, so being Christian doesn't mean you will 100% have a relationship with God and viceversa. The Bible also has a verse about not causing other people to stumble in their faith so maybe try to keep an open mind about how other people may have a better connection with God when leaving organized religion. At the end of the day God never forces anyone! so what really matters is that we all find our own way to become better humans, because having people stay in a religion when it causes them spiritual pain isn't a good idea either. I personally think it's better to have honest people doing good outside of religion instead of fake or hurt people just staying in religion for the wrong reasons and hurting others or themselves more, but that's just my opinion :) have a great day!

Camila Núñez I understand, I was saying that the point of Christianity isn’t about being a religion. Being a Christian is about a relationship with Jesus. It’s more than just a religion. If people are true in accepting Jesus as their savior, then they will have a relationship with him (assuming they pursue that relationship). I just have a deep love for Jesus that I want others to be able to experience. He is an amazing God and truly loves and cares for everyone! Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. I can never forgive the church for robbing me of true mental freedom during the most crucial years of my mind’s development. Blind faith is questioning's and doubt's simple and imprudent sibling. Their loving parents say "Think for yourself" and "Form your own opinion." From my experience, researching a significant host of philosophical ideas has overwhelmed me with doubt and confusion. Sometimes, I try to feel a sense of security again and again by simply trying to tether certain philosophical concepts to a blind and wishful faith in the existence of a creator and the afterlife (though not the Abrahamic God and Heaven and Hell). That is, sometimes I attempt to read into philosophies to confirm these spiritual ideas without even plain and simple evidence. It's like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet with the intention of stuffing one's face with particular pre-imagined desired choices and feeling unquestioningly full, satisfied, and ready to take a long nap. ;)

She has no idea what’s going on in this world that they are trapped in. But she discovers later on that something has been stolen from them, and this is their freedom to be and feel. At the end the control system is broken and all memories and emotions are free. That is exactly how I felt when I broke free from superstition. It was a long process, and I still have areas I need to free my self from, and maybe I will never be totally free. De-program a indoctrinated mind is not an easy task.

Cheers man! I’ve always been an atheist but know tons of people that are finding their way out of really harmful indoctrination. Thank you so much for your courage in questioning and sharing your story.

When some one feels guity, they go to a paster and make a confession. These days, invariably these pasters use the confession and exploit them and black mail them. What is more, if it s lady, they seek sexual favoursa to keep the confession a secret. Still I don't understand why they stick to Chrisianity when they understand that most of the beliefs of bible are invalid scientifically

pastors are also humans, just because a pastor sins doesnt mean you should blame it on the bible. most pastors are good people. pastors usually face more trials than we the regular folks. what beliefs of the bible are invalid scientifically? i dont think the bible makes scientific claims.

At some points you are right, pastors and leaders show that they are with us to help us, but most of them are hypocrite, they use the confessions of us to blackmail or defile us, I have faced this. But Brother, ultimately they are human like us, they can never be perfect. Do not look upon them. But look unto Jesus, He is the base of our faith. He is the true teacher and master. God bless you

Your umping the gun and generalising all Christians under the same thing. Ive never seen it personally and i havent heard about it much either. Although its a catholic thing not a christian thing.

Keep journeying in your own faith. Many of us have left religion behind and are deconstructing and reconstructing our faith in God. It’s personal and relational. Trust the process even amidst all the doubts. You will be stronger in the end for going through this.

Been a believer since I can remember. I've gone through all this and challenged my faith to only come to a fuller understanding. You have to go beyond the veil. All this stuff is good but stopping at the door is not good. Journey further. My faith is stronger than ever without the baggage when you see it.

Believing is a struggle, faith is peace and complete joy. I pray all of you come to know who God is and why Christ died on the cross. Only God can manifest true faith. I love all of you I pray God sends true messengers into your lives and rescues you.

I left Christianity about 25 years ago. Guilt, doubt, etc are all just part of being human, regardless of where we stand on theology. Descartes had his own struggle and out of that was born his cogito ergo sum. Personally, I find divinity/God in the natural world. And in a few other ways as well. But that's about as specific as I get. I think there is still a lot of good in the faith I was raised in, although it took me being out of it for several years, to process a lot of anger and disillusionment, before I could honestly say that again.

I have the same hair/beard combo you do. I've actually had people find out I'm an agnostic atheist and say "But... you look like Jesus." I always tell them "No I don't. I'm white."
