Had a Bronco on order since October of 2021, got tired of waiting and bought a Wrangler. Overall, the Bronco is better on road and for long road trips, the Wrangler is better for offroad. The sheer width difference between the Bronco and the Jeep makes the Wrangler a lot more nimble and efficient off-road as well.

I’ve had my 2022 Bronco Badlands 2-door for almost 45,000 miles. Have driven it on multiple road trips across Texas to Kansas and Colorado, and have taken it to off-road parks and trails. Only issue of annoyance was the windows of the frameless doors sagging over time and needing adjustment, but other than that I’ve had no major problems. It’s roomier and more comfortable on the highway than an equivalent Wrangler. It might not have the same off road capability (or even durability) as a Wrangler, but I got the Bronco to get me to places my last car simply couldn’t, and the better on-road comfort made the Bronco a better choice for me.

Nice review. I have owned a 2022 4 door Black Diamond and a 2023 2 door Badlands and had no issues with either. I did not get the Sasquatch pkg because I don’t like the 35 in Good Year mud terrain tires. My Badlands has the 33 in BFG KO2 tires which are smooth and quiet on the road. Gas mileage not great but it is a heavy vehicle. Overall I am very satisfied with the Bronco.

For a first gen FORD, not bad. It seemed like the front axle issue may have been.....self inflicted, dare I say it. I would be surprised if the Wrangler had these types of teething issues since the JK came out in 2006 and the JL was mostly a refresh.

After driving my 2024 Wrangler Rubicon X Unlimited to my daughter’s 2023 Bronco Wildtrack I prefer the Wrangler in all areas. The Bronco is nice and with the V6 Turbo does appear to have a little more horse power than the V6 in the Wrangler. However, the Bronco is like driving a larger box down the road and the steering wants to pull straight around corners so you have to keep readjusting the entire turn. I do not understand the issue with Wranglers not tracking straight, my 2008 and new 2024 drive straight as an arrow with factory 35s on the 2024. I have driven the 2024 90 MPH on the expressway with just one finger on the wheel and it stay right on course with no pulling from either side. I also find the seats in the Wrangler more comfortable especially with the new power adjustments. I also prefer the dash lay out on the Wrangler which is more traditional with large round gauges; the Bronco seems to be trying to have a more progressive electronic dash that makes me think it’s EVish and is not as easy to read. Regardless I am happy the Bronco is here to give Jeep competition in this segment, which is good for the consumer.

The Wrangler has recirculating ball steering and solid front axle. It steer fine on regular smooth roads, but the vagueness of the steering and impacts on the roads will lead to needing a lot of corrections on a typical, say, Midwest road.

@whispanic

I just spent 5 days in a 2024 4Xe Wrangler. It’s clear to me. That the steering chatter is just parroting. The solid front axel will feel different over really specific impacts that would normally destroy a car tire since one wheel will affect the other. That is basic physics but the constant correction is nonsense. If the steering box was worn out sure, but not new. They drive like any other truck and compared to my WT Silverado, much much smoother over imperfections. While I appreciate that the reviewers version of “it hurts me but it means well” victim statement as reasoning for recommending it, I have to question how in good faith you can recommend a car that the average person will finance at 9% and 1K a month payments that by your own testing has been proven to be utterly unreliable and a subpar build quality on a 2 year old car that that has REQUIRED 5K in repairs and needs and additional 3K in repairs. 62K new and 30K in depreciation and 8K in repairs and you have the audacity to recommend it. This type of advice will leave the average consumer perpetually broke. Also, no mention of fuel consumption vs claimed figures would also factor in to the costs to real people here.

As a follow up on the Wrangler steering, I think some of the issues is when people make various modifications to the suspension that may not be perfectly tuned with factory set up. (Lifts, shocks, bump stops, tires, and control arms, etc.)

Please compare similar models. Not a rubicon vs an outer banks or something. The bronco is definitely better on road. Never heard a jeep guy say that before. That’s biased as hell. The solid axel is better for off road. We can like both. But to say jeep is better on road is insane.

Question Edmunds: How many times has the Bronco been recalled since you obtained it? Not a fan of Ford's. I was a Ford person for most of my young adult life and finally came to realize that the quality is just not there. Way too much over-engineering and built-in obsolescence. Their vehicles seem to be designed to fail, spectacularly, especially when they begin to go out of warranty. Not in a position to financially replace a (now) $60k+ vehicle every 3-5 years. We learned that Nissan has vehicles that are reliable and repairable. Our 2015 Rogue has 145k+ miles on it, and other than routine maintenance, it has been flawless. Our 2019 Frontier has also been equally as bullet-proof; that replaced a 2004 Frontier that had nearly 200k miles on it. Oh, and on all THREE vehicles, there was ONE recall total (on the Rogue) since ownership. Enjoy your Bronco. I'll be watching this channel to see how well it ages.

I love the reviews that bash on the wranglers steering on the road. I have a 2023 wrangler with a 3 L diesel it drives great on road. It doesn’t drift or wander like I hear all these KZbinrs talking about it drives straight as an arrow and does not wander. There is a learning curve when you first drive it because the wheelbase is very short so it is a little twitchy but once you figure it out it drives perfectly on the road. Then all you people talking about how it drives like a truck that’s because it is a truck if you want a car that drives Like a sedan then go by BMW case closed. It’s like people that buy a three-quarter ton truck that is designed for towing and wonder why it ride so rough. People are clueless.

Which is a good thing, because we went across town to the local Jeep dealer and ordered and received a new Jeep 392 Wrangler that will blow the doors off the Bronco in just about any situation. Except visits to the gas station. We have 14,000 miles on the Wrangler and no problems. The sound of that 392 is intoxicating, no V6 can compare. And did I mention I'm a Ford guy...

The fact that people buy these large vehicles and complain that they don't drive like a mall crawler is amazing. I'm glad that the Bronco exists since it's good to have choice, but I'm glad that the Wrangler is still offroad first focused. I'd hate to see it devolve into a lowest common denominator for people who go down gravel roads and think that they went overlanding. I wish you had more variety in the people who review and not just city and suburb people who complain about seemingly every little thing.

Wrangler is a better buy new or used since it's been on the market for more than a few decades. If comfort is what you seek on your commute, then both the Wrangler and the Bronco are the wrong choices. If you seek off-road capability, then the Wrangler is a better choice for its off-road capability and reliability. For curb appeal, it's personal preference. Wranglers also still have a bigger aftermarket support due to it being on the market WAY longer. If you tack on all that, then Wrangler > Bronco for now unless Jeep stops improving the Wrangler and let Ford catch up

Edmunds have been in the vehicle business for many years and should know never to rely on a new model car to be perfect the year it is introduced. It takes at least 2 to 3 years for the manufacturer to discover and correct unexpected defects and that fact should be mentioned in your reviews. I have spent a large part of my working life as a commercial traveller and since my retirement 20 years ago have been driving new and used cars mainly on highway trips on a part time basis and have driven a few Broncos and have found them to be pleasant to drive highway cars and even a little nicer than Jeeps, which in turn are nicer highway cars than most other OEM sedans and SUVs. Lane keeping assist is very dangerous and should NOT be allowed on all cars except for Teslas where it works perfectly. Lane keeping assist has been available for some time now but has never been upgraded.

This is a prime example of why it is never worth your time or money to get your vehicle serviced at a dealership. This is also exactly why an extended warranty is never worth it.
