Seeing what the ride realistically will look like for me helps a lot. I love all of your bike videos. You have helped me enormously in understanding the electric bike market and specifically the Riese and Müller range. I have now bought 3 Riese and Müller bikes in the last year and you should take a fair bit of the credit for that…..but I live in the UK !!! Why not speak to Sandra at R and M and see if they will sponsor you. The whole concept of R and M is that their bikes offer a healthy and low carbon way of replacing the car. This marketing objective needs the reinforcement of a professional but relaxed video format, along the lines of what you have offered, to really analyse the range and discuss the many different addons/ modifications and lifestyle issues. You should be credited for being the best Riese and Müller salesperson worldwide !

I love that Manhattan is becoming more pedestrian friendly. I like congestion pricing. I feel like you should have to take the car to the train station to get into manhattan if you don’t have some sort of commercial license for delivering goods or services into the city.

Time Codes in your description below is an excellent concept. Because I watched it over, 1 thumbs up is not enough. You do need more cameras (front/back) but Tara should have the same setup. @truls46433 жыл бұрын
Who is the city really for? New yorkers, or suburbanites traveling into the city by car? Where I live we have had congestion pricing a long time already. It's very much beneficial in and of itself for urban dwellers. For making a better city, I see it as a small but important piece of the puzzle. It's a no brainer really. I think in essence every space is devalued slightly by every passing car, as it brings noise and risk of getting hurt, or worse. Not to mention the space that is given to cars both when moving and stationary. Any other potential use of that space would usually bring more livability, whether it's pedestrian space, green space, benches, bus lanes, playgrounds, out door dining or bike parking. If car drivers had to pay the true cost of driving, including "external costs" as defined by economics, the price would most probably be through the roof. And maybe not much cheaper for electric cars, compared to gas powered cars, as they take up just as much space and emit just as much noise (given tire noise at speeds above approximately 19 mph). New york is worth fighting for, so keep it up! I am always saving up for my next trip there, and I can't wait to see all the recent bike related upgrades. Edit: according to the book Curbing Traffic, the speed at which tire noise becomes dominant over engine noise is 35 mph.

Congestion pricing - absolutely. In London, electric cars free.
@Propelbikes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Thats pretty interesting about the electric cars. I need to study up in this some more
@tpreed3 жыл бұрын
I like congestion pricing but I don't see a reason to exclude electric cars. My rudimentary understanding of congestion pricing is to make it a greater economic decision to drive a car into the city center and thus more people will be incentivized to ride public transportation or at least carpool. Electric cars are not going to make Manhattan any less congested and eventually all cars with be electric. Electric cars are still just cars and take up a massive amount of space in our downtowns.
@miketrebert77883 жыл бұрын
@@tpreed I agree. The rules in London are evolving. At first the goal was to reduce pollution and to encourage uptake of EVs. Paris is changing too. During Covid, many bike lanes were added to city streets. The current mayor's plan (she's a "socialist") is to make the central core of Paris vehicle-free and exclusively pedestrianised. I think that means more bike lanes, no cars at all other than public transport, deliveries, bikes, and those f***ing electric scooters. It's great to see intelligent attempts to solve the climate crisis.
@9canadianboy3 жыл бұрын
@@tpreed I believe that in MIlan Italy. That hybrids are allowed so many free trips through the down town, not sure about electric cars.
@adamt1953 жыл бұрын
@@miketrebert7788 The EV exemption is going to be removed in December 2025. And actually plug in hybrids vehicles with very low emissions and at least 20 miles of electric only range also qualify today, but that exemption ends this October. And the area right now is just central london. Theres also the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which has the same borders as the congestion zone, but also in October will be expanded out to include a much larger area. If you own a relatively new car, your emissions should be low enough already to not be charged, but people with older more polluting cars will.

I do love video of a bike tour around NYC (despite some longing for not being there the past year or so), but I can't picture doing too many in a row. One thing that might be interesting is a video of how to bicycle around NYC: which sections are easy to maneuver around. What things can be tricky and what an experienced rider looks out for. What sort of skills someone should work on before attempting it.

My plan is to actually do interviews and rides like this. I’ll need to improve the rig a bit, but I think it will be cool. I know a lot of these things are a bit experimental, but I really enjoy that. I like trying new things and bringing people along for the journey. It seems most people enjoyed it, so I do plan to mix more of these things into our future video. I’m also hoping to share more stories and ideas and I was thinking it could be nice to do it from the saddle as opposed to in the studio. It might just go with the seasons and when I’m able to do it. I’m pretty sure I can do that without it becoming redundant or boring. I like the idea of biking around the city and how to navigate traffic. Could be a great video to integrate the 360 cam overhead shots.

Your Rollig POV shots are a great! And remind me of an interview I saw with a famous director and cinematographer, where the interviewer who was an aspiring filmmaker set up the interview in an old movie theater, but the director had other plans, and as the interview started he said "This is boring - follow me" He removed one of the interviewer's cameras and and marched him outside the theater where he had a wheelchair conspicuously parked. The director racked the camera zoom to ultra wide angle, set the interviewer down in the wheel chair, plopped the camera in the interviewer's lap with both of them in frame he pushed the interviewer around the streets of Hollywood as be lectured him on how to not to create a boring scene by using unexpected angles and settings to engage the viewer. Basically what that director gave was a film-school lecture, but the result was brilliant, as we've never seen an interview done from a rolling wheelchair. Having the streets of Hollywood passing by reinforced the theme while the up-the-nose shots made the interview personal unique, and it seems you have the means now to create a similar and unique platform to frame your message.

I think you and Tara have demonstrated the accessible way of travelling about the city and perhaps having destinations within the city for biking to would be a good idea. The ease and joy of riding an e.bike really comes across in your video. Biking is not just for the open roads, trails and tour biking. Thanks.

This video gives off “Portlandia” vibes. Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein riding through NYC ON e-bikes. “I don’t know, what do you think?”- in Fred’s voice (I like it!) Love him or hate him, Bloomberg was denied a “congestion tax” when he wanted to put toll booths in midtown. So he did his thing and put a bike lane right down (nearly) the middle of 6th Ave in Chelsea. This happened about 20yrs ago and the whole city benefited

So Chris, you say you no longer live in So. Cal. My question is:Did you close your shop here in Long Beach or not?

I still go to LB frequently and have a store, warehouse and video studio there, but my primary home at the moment is in NY

Yes! A sponsor would be cool to get the cameras you need!

I think it great to see you just riding through a city and to see how it looks like from a "non-Hollywood" perspective. As a Dutchy, liked the Amsterdam trip, but I never been in LA or NY, so that gives a very nice perspective. (Edit: I really want to go there now!) Even if you are not talking about cameras or sponsorship (please don't*), just the POV is great. *We don't need a 5 minute Skilshare-commercial just to see stuff about e-bikes. You don't either. I like the fact that it's small and not over-produced. The seat-of-the-pants-style makes it more real and believable. My 2c

Thanks for your perspective and feedback! I was also considering a video purely from the first person view without any audio, maybe just some music. This would be in addition to these style vids. For the sponsor thing, I appreciate your feedback and I will do my best to not make these into ads, but I think a small part, like 10-30 seconds could be ok. Especially if it’s aligned and we do it in a fun and entertaining way

@@Propelbikes Well, I'm looking forward to it. Make me buy my ticket to NY! I'll drop by your shop to rent an e-bike, when that comes into fruition. 👍🏻

Hey Chris, you ever consider getting some more cameras? In all seriousness, these kinds of videos are great. Would love to see you cut through Greenpoint and come up here to LIC/Astoria. Totally different vibe!

Very nice video! You can always add an insta 360 and post production different views.

I think we will plan to add it as camera #3

You could use a 360 camera, then it's like having several camera looking all around
@Propelbikes3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that as well, but I was thinking it would be nice to have better image quality of a DSLR
@noisycarlos3 жыл бұрын
@@Propelbikes that's fair. Maybe an DSLR for the main cam, and a 360 camera on the rear rack or something to capture all around you, in case the main cam misses a good moment

I think that you and Sara have a start on something good and interesting to offer us. I use to live in Rhode Island 24 years ago and have been to NyC few times. I now live in Florida. You need more cameras, lol. Thanks

Nice vibe in the video! If only you had more cameras it would be even better... 🤣

Lol! Oh they are coming for sure!

All you need is an insta 360 x2 camera and then you can direct the image in any direction after the fact. You can still film in 4K with a lot smaller rig.

Also, you should start a biking show with different KZbinrs and eventually celebrities in this exact format, not just people in the e-bike community. You should become the First We Feast in e-biking format. You can talk about random stuff you see around the city while biking, talk to random people all over the city and the more famous people you get on, you'll have fans chasing you around. Create a huge hysteria.

Good video. Since you need more cameras I wonder if a spherical camera would be useful?
