Its funny how things have changed so much. When I was a teen, seems like all of the riders I knew started on mopeds and we all gradually progressed to bigger bikes. There were a LOT of us but we were never all together at the same time. It was like we knew everyone in our town that rode. We would run into each other all over and get together and chat or have some food or even have some beers. There never was a set time or place, we would just run into each other at various favourite places. Seemed we never lost touch with one another. We never scheduled ride outs or meets but I know for a fact, we had a better time. Sadly, pretty much everyone I knew has faded or gone. I really don't know any riders any more. Seems like a lot of posers nowadays.

Sadly this happens all too often. Ive experienced similar treatment from some so called bikers. thats why many bikers will ride solo or only with those they trust. My take on this is simple. You ride together, you stay together, you ride back together. An experienced biker is at the front and one is at the rear so riders of lesser experience dont feel the need to ride beyond their ability to keep up. Too many selfish people about today.

I found at bike meets that the newer the bike and bigger the engine owners ,compared to the 10 yr old+ bike that the guy has put time and effort and what he can afford into it,made all the difference,he's more likely to talk,offer a hand and mean it and know how to stay alive on two wheels,than the 10K bike that's never seen rain,Range Rover owning twerp called Tristian,who's leathers and lid cost not far of my bike,who thought the dial ins on the shocks,raised and lowered the bike for smaller riders on the Japanese market..
@stephenbibby86505 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree. A good bike group will always have a tail end Charlie to make sure everyone stays connected. The rider in front should always keep the rider behind in view or at least wait for them . Everyone should have details of the route meet points etc so if you do get separated at least you know where you are going.

When I used to ride with groups of colleagues in the Alps we had a rule that you never let the guy behind you out of your mirrors. It didn't slow us down any either as it is always a challenge to keep up with the pack even with that rule in force. Also if someone dissappeared from your mirrors for more than say a quarter of a mile then you pulled over to wait for them or even turned around to go look for them. It's not rocket science to look after each other :)

Bike meets never worked out for me either.. Boring.. Neither did road trips in UK or abroad if riding in a group.. Like people have said … two maybe three riders together is ok but no more.. I ride alone now. Too many squabbles, gossip, shit stirring and moaning otherwise.. Went abroad with 4 & 7 of us and first time with 4 rode back as 3 and when 7 went I rode back alone.. Went my own way.. Choose my own way back from Faro. Stopped when I want, for as long as I want and got some great photos and memories. I am actually glad to read I am not the only one it hasn't worked out for.. It got so bad at one stage... I got so desperate to be alone I dropped my bike on purpose (only very low speed)... knowing the others couldn't hang about and I got an extra week in France and learnt how to poach salmon properly (cooking it, not stealing it) and I discovered Roule... garlic and herb cheese..Oh and I got people criticising me for standing up on bike on a long run because I had cramp in a leg or I took hands off handlebars to stretch.. My bike, I ride how I want.. Don't like it then feck off.. Been at this 30+ years and I don't suffer fools no more.. No I didn't drop bike when taking hands off bars. GSX 1400 cc pretty heavy and easy to control in a straight line... The six speed box came into it's own on the mountain roads between Spain and France.. Pamplona road very scenic indeed.

@@n136h A total act of desperation unfortunately I only cut my little finger and the bike was still rideable... I had already put myself one day riding behind them thinking by the time I get back to where they were going to be they would have moved on again.. Nope they were still there.. Oh shit.. Final straw was when we all stayed at a property in Spain I walked out of the room where they were all packing up getting ready to leave but I hung about outside the door and heard what I thought was my closest mate running me down behind my back.. That was it.. When I got back to Britain I never mentioned any of it but word had got around and I got quite a bit of respect for going solo from other mates who hadn't gone with us.. I couldn't agree more with the advise someone said on here best to ride in groups of 2 or 3 although when our 7 got down to 5 that was good riding and all in zinc.. mostly anyway.. When one of the 5 said to me once "please don't keep taking your hands off the handlebars when riding.. I realised he was probably just shocked at me doing it and had never seen it done before.. I think it was his first long road trip? You have to either stop to stretch your legs, stand up on the bike or momentarily take hands off handlebars to stop the onset of pins and needles.. only for a few seconds. Great tip I learned was turn bike mirrors from horizontal to vertical if they are rectangular? It helped me with the rear vision... :0)

When I posted an ad on their for sale board (it was a type owner's club) I got chewed out for joining just to sell off stuff! The moderator chimed to say that that was no way to behave, but I was struck by not being accepted. I signed up for the Christmas lunch but when I showed up, nobody welcomed or paid the slightest bit of notice to the new guy, they just had their own tight little groups going (food was good, the company less so). It probably is the case that bikers are an offbeat lot and don't really do socialising.

I'm not from Wolverhampton, nor am I a Brummie (I'm a Londoner), but even I know that Wolverhampton and Tamworth are nowhere near each other - they're opposite sides of the Birmingham area!! .....it's like me going to a bike meet at the Ace Cafe, and then some riders saying they're not staying but going to a pub 10 miles away near Chelsea Bridge or something. It's obvious they weren't going to any pub, but just wanted to have an evening blast, going flat out on the roads....with no particular destination in mind. When they said they were going to a pub in Tamworth, alarm bells should have gone off in your head, or you should have thought ''er, hello....something's not right here''. The group you were with sounded like they were all in their early 20's and just wanted to show off how fast they could go on their bikes. The only way to ride in groups and keep everyone happy is to use the drop off system. Designated leader and back marker. Everyone rides at thier own pace, leader drops off the rider behind him as a marker for turns and junctions, then when everyone but the backmarker has passed, the marker pulls in just in front of the backmarker. Overtaking allowed in the group.

100% on your side with this one. Ignore all the negative comments. If people want to kill themselves riding then let them. I've had something similar leaving a Southampton bike night but this was with friends. 4 of us went down fine but coming back they tore up the M3, A34 then A303 well above the speed limit. I left them to it as one, I don't want to loose my license or die and two I didn't feel comfortable riding at those speeds at night on busy roads. They all disappeared so I left them to it. Really not worth it and it doesn't make you feel part of the group. Prefer riding with a small group of people now on day trips rather than go to bike nights.

I've got one of them old Honda 90 step throughs. Every bike meet I goto I get left and usually lost! It's an antique. But... when I take my ferrari or my Lambo to the car meets I'm welcomed with open arms. Bikers are weird man! I'll goto my next meet on my Honda about 250 miles away and if I don't get any welcome I'm going it alone all the next times. ☺

I quit going to meets years ago. The last one I went to was around 2008. We decided to head back after a nice ride out to one of the groups house for a BBQ. I was following and for some reason they turned left when they should have turned right. OK .... So I followed then realised why, the A19! At the time I had my 11 year old daughter on the back and when I looked down I was doing 140 plus on the most policed and dangerous road in the UK. So I backed off the throttle and at the next junction I turned round and went home leaving the assholes to it. Just because a couple of my bike(s) can do those sorts of speeds doesn't mean I *have* to. Still, I've had a clean licence since 1996 which is more than can be said for one or two of them. Why do that? And the worst thing? Next time I saw them at a bikers cafe I used to go to, one of them said he had fading brakes on his bike on that day and knew his discs needed changing but had a go at me for being chicken. And he was carrying an inexperienced pillion. ASSHOLES!!!

#Wolverhamptonbiker is correct. As a rider of many different groups and bikes it is basic bike code never leave a biker behind. if you riding in a group you ride to the slowest rider out of respect. you've got to understand that not all bikes have the same power and acceleration. Also the rider might not be comfortable riding the same way you do all riders are different most of your riding sills come from self taught. if you do wan to take off fine but if you come to a point where your turning a that point you wait. As I say and the groups if I take off or you take off just keep going straight we will wait and the junctions if we are turning off. p.s. also a Wolverhampton rider

It's not so easy being at the back of a large group like that to see ahead and judge your maneuvers. Plus the light/visibility and road conditions were not ideal. There were about 6 or so bikes in front which passed approaching a blind crest, by the time he'd have been passing it'd probably been too risky. Obviously the wrong group for some.

Your footage fails to show how wide that road is, with clear visibility and turns in to a two lane carriageway. I know this road well, it’s round the corner from my house and have ridden it more times than I can count. You’re being a killjoy mate, most cars down there don’t even do half the national speed limit down that stretch, and with good visibility it is more than safe enough for an overtaking manoeuvre. You would be better suited to a Nissan Micra than a bike.

I always say to anyone that rides with us "ride to your own abilities " iff we ride hard and go we will wait for you up the road or next junction.....we never leave a man behind.My boys have just started riding with me and they are told the same and is all good. So maybe next time (if there is one) you meet up, just let them know,and if they have a problem with it, they are not worth riding with.

I started on scooters way back in the sixties, I was a Mod of course and it was like a big club, wherever we went, even though we did not know the people, we were invited to parties, we met girls (I think because we were all clean and tidy under the Parka`s) and we had great times and even though I went to the seaside towns, I saw very little of the so called battles between the Mods and the Rockers as they were called then. When I got my first car, all of that stopped, I became just another car driver, and even when I started on motorbikes, I never felt the same sort of connection to other bikers, just the occasional signalling of the hand as a gesture of recognition.
@istra705 жыл бұрын
Obviously picked wrong group to hang with. You can chat and drink with anyone in public , but riding is different story. If you are on Honda 50 than you can't hang in the group riding 1 L sport bikes...... Need to find bikers riding similar bike or experience to yours ( and most likely your speeds will match)..... The other thing is socializing. You may have higher education but no university teaches socializing. People complaining about it have problem (and not the others ). No group in public is private "closed" circle. You can allays listen to what they are saying, laugh with them and if you have something funny or smart to say EVERYONE will listen or laugh.... this is the only way to get accepted. But people like you are waiting for written invitation and hand to hold. With such an attitude you probably struggle to find a women too. Are you blaming women of being unapproachable or " closed circle " ......??? For start stop wining ( no one likes that and is of no help or joy to listen). Second stop blaming others for your shortfalls ( work on it instead - it is easier to change yourself than everyone around you).... You did only one good thing here and it is ....... ride your speed.....

If all bikers abide by the highway code then all biker groups can keep up with each other. But the majority of bikers ride like complete tossers and deserve all they get, it's a shame it's the emergency services that have to clean up the mess due to your stupid inconsiderate behaviour.

I'm 40 now and been riding on the roads since 16. Back when I first started riding on the roads there were less bikers and everyone still waved. These days you pass other bikers and you don't even get a nod never mind anything else from 8 out of 10 riders. Biking isn't the same brotherhood as it once was and it's all very snooty theses days with all these new riders showing off all there wealth and other idiots giving bikers a bad name because of dangerous riding solo or in big groups all trying to keep up with someone who's skill levels are better than there's and don't get me started on the little shits on scooters

Be nice to start seeing custom bikes again, rat bikes , street fighters etc. Chucking a load of cash at a expensive bike just to look the same as the next guy is just crap in my eyes. I've no real time for most of the ppl who buy these new expensive bikes, 1 or 2 are OK to chat with most are just posers. I like seeing the lads who are out on a old 2 stroke. How many times do you see a Rd or a rg these days rgv ,kr1s, tzr. The lads riding them are properly still using there wife's / mams kitchen table to rebuild a motor and washing parts in the the kitchen sink., these are the lads who still wave and represent what biking use to be about back in the day. Not about money it was about keeping them going yourself as you were probably sink so you learned to fix erm and rode in all weather
