Yeah, I don't understand people putting Grease down the drain! You're literally asking for problems. Here's a tip for everyone: So my wife and I are on a Septic System, Anytime we have excess grease or OIL even, we save 2 liter bottles, Distilled water jugs, etc, and we pour our grease and oil in those, and throw it away! We've never put any grease down the drain. If we have excess cooking oil, we'll put a couple papertowels in the bottom of an old used ZipLock bag, and then just pour the oil in the bag. No messes, and we're not putting it down the drain etiher! Do NOT put grease down the drain, DON'T DO IT PEOPLE! lol Awesome Video Dom!

Serious question, is it an issue with the left over grease that's still on the pan after dumping out the actual liquid grease? So like I'll cook steaks on my pan and then wipe up all the excess grease. But when I go to wash it, there's still some residue left over. Is that goign to cause an issue? I'm on city sewer, but obviously don't want to screw my own drains.
@Nukemann642 ай бұрын
@@fargnbastage great question. I'm my experience, the residual is fine, because it's mixed with dish soap, which acts as a degreaser, so that should be safe with some hot water to go down the drain. :)

I use glass pickle jars to keep the grease 👍
@CoachKarinАй бұрын
Honestly I don’t “ wash” my pans, I just deglaze them and wipe them them out with paper towels. I also only use cast iron or stainless steel and you want to keep them seasoned. For the most part I am a grill/griddle cook which is even better, bulk meal prep and no pans!! I also don’t use fabric softener or pods as that’s petroleum from the fabric softener and same as dishwasher pods the plastic coating becomes plastic again in which usually gets caught up in the drain screen. My go to rinse aid is white vinegar.

My son once dumped a fry daddy's worth of cooking oil down the drain by mistake. He thought it was dirty water. I didn't have a septic, but I had to call a plumber to eel it. I told the landlord what happened (it was entirely our fault) and offered to take care of the bill. He refused ❤ And that's why he's still my landlord
@rosamunddrag89712 ай бұрын
Good for you I would understand if he got mad if that was a constant issue. But considering that it was a one time mistake, and your son didn't mean to do that, I don't think it was that had for him to do this for you. Some people do this shiz constantly and are a pain in the behind of their landlords or plumbers. Some things should not be in your drain

I found that as a landlord, tenants just don't care what they put down the drain because they were not responsible for getting it fixed. That changed when I put a clause in the lease that covered negligence, specifically wipes/grease/toys that might find their way into the aerobic system I paid a lot of money for(plus a "you have got to be freaking kidding me fee"). I was surprised how many problems I never got notified about that they paid for themselves. Being a small town, all the contractors eventually told me. It's amazing how money can instill responsibility...

Love this!!!
@joebeach77593 ай бұрын
@ftworthgent I had to do something. I hit the breaking point one year when fixing things that were 100% preventable wiped out 80% of my profit on 1 property. I'm really good to my tenants. If something happens, it's fixed immediately (I grew up with most of the contractors around me, so they all show up, even at 3am). But I can't be responsible for stupidity. Once folks realized they were just as responsible as if it were their own property, and I made them well aware, things changed. Now everyone is happy. The less I have to spend on repairs, the more I can spend on new appliances and things.

@joebeach77593 ай бұрын
@estebancorral5151 According to the lease, they have to have. Whether they maintain it or not, I can't hold their hands. But renter's insurance doesn't cover negligence. And believe me, they do everything they can to not have to pay. I've been doing this for almost 20 years. I've already paid off 75% of my properties. I'm pretty sure I've evolved. But thanks for the comment, anyway.

Our house is 50 yrs old. We had an Aerobic system. We’ve lived here for 30 yrs. In those 30 yrs, I have cussed that dang thing out a thousand times. Seems one thing after another. It’s a round fiberglass tank. It has what looks like a burlap bag inside. That bag tore and & fell inside. In April we got a letter from the Dept of Health that they will be inspecting all Aerobic systems first. I called three companies. Two never returned my calls. The 3rd said he wouldn’t touch it. It’s to old & that company is out of business. Went to the Health Dept. They said it needs repaired or replaced. Called local excavation co. He said I need a 1500 gal & 1000 gal. New leach field also. All together it cost me $26,500 plus $750.00 for the perc test. Called two more they were even more! Leach field is in the backyard luckily I have 3 acres. Tanks are in the front, effluent gets pumped to the back. Cost a lot of money, got rid of that Aerobic pain in the butt. But I’m sleeping good now at night!

If you just have to pour grease down the drain make sure it's hot fresh grease & that you're running extremely hot 🔥 water with it. Keep the hot water running for an additional 3 minutes. Never had any clogging issues ever.
@dieseldragon67562 ай бұрын
Quick tip: A heatproof container - Old can/drum/beer barrel or sufficiently large glass jar at close temperature - Will also capture the fat and contain it whilst it cools. Once it's cool enough to handle it can be allowed to solidify (If fat/grease) before being thrown away in the trash, otherwise oils can be decanted into more suitable long-term containers and disposed of when a _sensible_ opportunity arises. 👍 You might _think_ the grease you've been hot-washing into the drains isn't going to cause you a problem, but trust me: Given time, it *will.* Especially if that _will_ means _The street being flooded with sewage because of a fatberg._ ⚠

You got your own tank in the backyard or does it go into the city pipes?
@dieseldragon67562 ай бұрын
@@tk_disdk Whichever you have, pouring fats into the drains is definitely *not* advisable. ⚠ In sewers it causes fatbergs, blockages and floods of raw sewage - And a *massive* bill or writ, if your property is identified as the source - And in septics it'll significantly thicken and solidify the scum layer up to the point where the inlet baffle becomes blocked and the sewage backs-up into the house. 🏘🚽⬅💩

Even a general container (Pickle jar, milk bottle etc) can be a good way of collecting and disposing of fats and grease. So long as the temperature of the fat is appropriate to the container you're pouring it into... 👍 (Remember: Glass _can_ handle high temperatures, but it *can't* handle sudden changes in temperature. So if that oil's at 250°F, don't go pouring it into a jar that's been sat in a 70°F room all day! Warm it up to at least 225°F first!)
