I could go on, but I should note that some groups actually risk their lives to preach in places like China and Saudi Arabia, where they are literally at risk of execution by doing so. Meanwhile there are only about 10000 JWs in China and virtually no people doing the preaching work. If there is a church that meets that criterion, it's not Jehovah's Witnesses.

Interestingly enough, the Society has stated regarding the Trinity: “When the clergy are asked by their followers as to how such a combination of three in one can possibly exist, they will generally answer, ‘That is a mystery.’ Some will try to illustrate it by using triangles, trefoils, or images with three heads on one neck. Nevertheless, God-fearing persons who want to know Jehovah and serve him find it a bit difficult to love and worship a complicated, freakish-looking, three-headed God. The clergy who inject such ideas will contradict themselves in the very next breath by stating that God created man in his own image; and certainly no one has ever seen a three-headed human creature.”-“‘Let God be True’”, 1946 edition, page 83, paragraph 6 in Chapter VII “Is There a Trinity?”. Their own recorded history-particularly in the last ten years in this era of “Jw Broadcasting”-answers that question with a resounding and unqualified “No!” Granted, they have followed and continue to follow the letter of those words by rejecting the Trinity. However, their protestations to the contrary notwithstanding, they have embraced the worship of what is best described currently as a “freakish-looking, nine-headed god”-in the form of their Governing Body. Yes, as you aptly put it, this Governing Body, in its present composition, is quite literally a triple-trinity or a trinity of trinities. This is observed in the adulation, praise, laud and hail heaped upon the members of the Governing Body by the delegates to the Society’s assemblies of the present day. Why, even one of their own number, Sam Herd, mentioned, in remarks made during one of the Society’s annual meetings, the pictures received from the children of Jehovah’s witnesses. This makes plain the disgusting reality that the worship of this freakish-looking, nine-headed god is inculcated even in youthful minds of tender years. The mark of this trinity of trinities is, not the “Tower” logo of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, but, rather, the blue square of the Society’s website. Indeed, per instructions received from headquarters, that blue square has in recent years replaced the “Tower” on the signs and buildings of Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls as well as the Branch offices of the Society. As well-known as were Russell, Rutherford, Knorr and Franz, yet even they were each regarded as merely the “principal servant within Jehovah’s earthly organization”. Now, however, the freakish-looking, nine-headed god at Warwick is viewed as the “leader” of Jehovah’s witnesses by the use of such expressions as “taking the lead”. The circuit servants and the appointed servants in the local congregations are the enforcers who act on behalf of this trinity of trinities. Whenever ‘the Governing Body decides’ on something, these servants are called upon to ensure that the rank-and-file obey such “direction”. If any typical witness does not do so, he or she is brought before the committee for a hearing and subsequently either put on probation (“reproved” either privately or publicly) or disfellowshipped (the term “removed” not officially coming into place until October 2024) as an “apostate”. In all of the above, the members of the Governing Body hold the power of life and death over Jehovah’s witnesses. Consequently, how could they not be seen as comprising a freakish-looking, nine-headed god or a trinity of trinities?

It's a curious thing, how they dismiss any criticism of Russell's teachings, as if these weren't serious matters that they have acknowledged in print he was wrong about. "By their fruits you will recognize them," they'd usually say, about how false teachings demonstrate that one is in a false religion. But they give themselves a blank check for an unlimited number of false and bizarre teachings littered through decades of literature. "Adjustments" in teachings are "evidently" not the same as saying what we used to believe is now false. Also, the notion that Witnesses "rediscovered an ancient religion" is absurd, simply because they are (1) clearly influenced by the Second Adventists because Russell was, by their own admission in the Proclaimers book, and (2) in many cases, using research that non-Witness Bible scholars (ie. "Babylon the Great", or even some scholars who don't believe in Jesus at all) have already done, extracting whatever fits their dogma, and discarding the rest, while insisting their followers not do any outside research for themselves. Once you get to do such research, you realize that they're just printing a lot of stuff any priest might have learned in a theological seminary, but leaving out anything that disproves their teachings. Worse is the ironic realization that part of that requires them to read real "apostate literature" and even quote from it in their publications. As you said, the term "governing body" is not found in the Bible, and even internally, the Bible clearly reflects a profound lack of unified thought and teaching. Otherwise, several of the topics in Paul's letters would be unnecessary--people teaching that there is no resurrection, for example, or who insisted on others keeping the Sabbath or dietary restrictions would have already been "removed" by a "committee of elders" if there was the kind of unified thought they claim existed in the first century. (But then, they'd "remove" Jesus himself if he were in one of their congregations today.) The Governing Body is really just the Pope by Committee.

When Judge Rutherford took over as head of The Bible Students from Brother Russell, he instituted his own opinions & beliefs as Bible- based doctrine. He had his own agenda and was on a power trip in my opinion. If you compare the New World Translation of the Bible they released in the 1960’s/1970’s, with a current edition, there are so many changes to the wording that it completely changes the meaning of the some verses. Very confusing, and self-serving to try and validate some of their belief system. This “religion” has almost completely changed in the last 50 to 60 years. The old Watchtower’s and Awake’s contradict a lot of the “new light” they’re pushing now. Just the fact that the Governing Body is so visible now is startling enough. It’s become a corporation that’s main concern is money, and keeping those at “Bethel”, the headquarters, etc. living comfortably off the backs of their “publishers”, who are strongly encouraged to not further their educations, pioneer, and not associate with anyone or anything outside of organization. Geez… I could write a book! I was in for 24 years, and out for almost 29. The PTSD is real and deep. I lost close family members and countless friends in a heartbeat, had barely anyone to lean on because they shelter you so much. I’ve never spoken out about JW’s, never treated any of them horribly, but because I’m no longer a part of the congregation, I must be an “apostate, turned my back on Jehovah and should be ignored & cease to exist”. 😂 I now pity all of them…. Pathetic.

As but one example of the changes made to the current edition of the “New World Translation”, consider Zechariah 2:8-10. In the earlier editions two things are clear: 1. “Jehovah” is the speaker. 2. “Jehovah” sends himself. That is how the passage is rendered in each edition through 1984 (2008 if one remembers that the brackets were removed at that time). However, given that the passage has been interpreted by witnesses and non-witnesses alike to be a prophecy allegedly fulfilled in Christ, the current members of the New World Bible Translation Committee couldn’t abide a rendering which given the interpretation appears to support the Trinity (which the Society has long denied). So, it was either change the rendering or change the doctrine. This is one particular doctrine which, if changed, would so divide Jehovah’s witnesses as to make what happened 1917-31 seem like the Bible Students of that time appear in complete lockstep by comparison-at a time (2013) when the contribution boxes were already beginning to run dry. Consequently, they had to butcher the text for the 2013 edition to such an extent that it no longer makes any sense. There are numerous other examples of changes made to the text between the earlier editions and the 2013 edition. But, this one seems to be the most glaring. Of course, this does not take into account the manifold textual changes the original members of the New World Bible Translation Committee-most notably Freddy Franz-made in order to prepare even those earlier editions and from which changes have sprung the doctrinal changes made by the Society from and after the summer of 1950.

I definitely remember in the 90's having bonfires and people bringing old copies of literature under the guise of cleaning the hall grounds or a get together​, but really it was to burn and destroy the literature on e it had been updated. We were actively pushed to keep our home libraries as up-to-date as possible and how important it is to remove old print and not let it trip anyone up down the line....... Yet magically my parents deny this ever happened because why would they be told to destroy the word of god! @@altworldly

Ironically, however, the Society has made policy changes and doctrinal changes which apply only to certain countries but not all countries. An example of inconsistent policy is seen in what happened in Malawi and Mexico regarding the obtaining of government-issued cards during the sixties and seventies. An example of inconsistent doctrine is seen regarding the “vindication of Jehovah’s name”. As explained a few years ago, during the Society’s annual meeting, that phrase had fallen out of favor from the standpoint of the Society only in Anglophone countries and was permitted by the Society to come back into vogue only in Anglophone countries. Other languages never stopped using that term. Incidentally, even Anglophone witnesses never really altogether stopped using that phrase as was demonstrated in the singing of certain Kingdom Songs. (I myself continued using the term during those years until I finally left 2016.)

Actually, Philadelphia is a city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However, the cult now known as Jehovah’s witnesses was started in another city in Pennsylvania-Allegheny (which is now part of Pittsburgh). Indeed, the legal headquarters of the Society remain in the Pittsburgh area, now at the Coraopolis Assembly Hall. The only real connection with regard to the organizational structure to Philadelphia of which I am aware centers on the fact that Rutherford, in the course of his coup d’état of November 1916-July 1917, met with a lawyer who was not a Bible Student (meaning he was not involved with the Society) to get his legal opinion on whether or not he could overturn Pastor Russell’s will, particularly the rider governing the board of directors and their operating of the Society, as well as removing the majority of the directors who had been appointed by Russell and were awaiting confirmation by the shareholders during the election at the Society’s annual meeting January 1917.

After all, if there were such a thing as God and he were both omniscient and omnipotent, he wouldn’t need any company of imperfect creatures to serve as his “channel of communication”, or “spokesperson”. Indeed, the evidence thus far extant seems to suggest that there can be no such thing as God in the first place, let alone that he ‘created man in His image and likeness’. On the contrary, the evidence thus far extant seems to suggest that man created God in his own image and likeness thereby itself debunking the necessity for any Theocratic “channel of communication”. Rather, the Governing Body, of which Jackson and Fleegle are members and to which Ekrann is a helper (a member of what the Society has called the antitypical Nethinim) has positioned itself as a freakish-looking, nine-headed god over Jehovah’s witnesses. Consequently, to the extent that the Society is a “channel of communication” or “spokesperson” for any deity, it is such only for that self-appointed god which calls itself the Governing Body of Jehovah’s witnesses and which currently sits enthroned at Warwick.

Christ is NOT the mediator for all mankind, he is mediator only for the Anointed class, (including the governing body of present times) my parentheses. Where’s Watchtower’s belief in the scriptures that proclaim Christ as mediator for “all mankind”?

I currently live with my dad who is a ministerial servant. He was an elder for a long time but stepped down. He is quite a nice person when he isn’t drinking. He drinks every night. I have video and audio of his behaviour that I could send to his congregation but they would probably ignore it because they protect their own. Please be careful of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

My favorite Watchtower article is the June 10th 1942 Consolation published under Nathan Knorr and edited by Clayton Woodworth. On page 24, they celebrate the american flag as a symbol "point[ing] the way to The Theocracy". Also, on page 23, they give what might be a hypothetical conversation between a housholder and a JW as to why Jehovah needed to unalive anyone young and old that wasn't a part of their faith. It said such things like "children become as big rascals as their godless parents" and that if Hitler had been killed as a baby, the worlds troubles would disappear. The convo concludes that Jehovah would "nip evil in the bud by destroying all creatures on earth not devoted to HIM, to prevent affliction rising the second time". Totally not an American religion. Edit: this article was written 3 months after an incident occured in West Jefferson, Ohio where multiple JWs were viciously attacked by a mob of townspeople for their stance on the flag salute while the police did nothing to protect them. If the leaders are good at anything, its throwing their followers under the bus while sitting far off in their tax-free Ivory Tower.
