We bought a 2002 ES300, as a certified used vehicle in 2004 with 31K miles. Same color scheme as Scotty's wife's car. Just coming up on 139K miles. Still looks and runs great. As long as it doesn't get in an accident, we'll be driving it many more years. Merry Christmas everybody.

3 1/2 years ago I bought a one owner 2002 ES300 w 161k miles. Still have it now with 186k miles. Best car I’ve ever owned. Had new struts installed after buying it and also some replacement OEM parts, starter, alternator, exhaust flex pipe. Earlier this year did a timing belt and water pump replacement. Now with recently installed Michelin Defender 2 tires it rides like a champ. Super quiet, fit and finish is amazing. Every button and switch still works like new nothing is broken. 1MZ-FE engine will last well over 300k miles if maintained properly. Merry Christmas
@hoosiernative96682 минут бұрын
You barley even use the car tho, that’s on average 16 miles a day. Even a ford fusion won’t break down with that minimal use. I bought a ram at 68k miles last year and I’m already at 91k miles, zero issues highly recommended truck.

Scotty im from Europe and where i live it don't matter what make or model we change our timing chains at pretty much every 100-120k km. The risk is often not worth the reward. The vehicles with a timing belt we see them as a godsend because the whole process of changing the belt is 2-3 (or more) times cheaper compared to the timing chain. So yeah Honda may not be among the most popular manufacturers but the vehicles with a timing belt where one can attach an LPG system are seen as infinitely superior.

I’m 72 yo and last year I bought my last car, a 2021 Lexus GX 460 w/ 28k miles. 18 months later it has 38k miles and the power train warranty expires in Jan 2027. I change the oil every 6 months and I just changed the cabin and engine air filters last week. The GX is perfect. There’s no reason to take it to the local dealer. I paid $44k in June 2023 for a loaded up GX with an Original MSRP of $59,850 including 2nd row Captains Chairs, Tow Pkg, etc. it’s still worth $40k wholesale to CarMax or Carvana. Because many people would rather have the V8 over the new Turbo V6 I think it will continue to hold its value. I’ve bought a few dozen or more new cars in my lifetime but never again.

Greetings from germany. I don't get it. Why are the US cars and cars made for US market so low in quality? Here we get a waranty from bumper to bumper for the cars. Combustion: Subaru gives 5 years, Toyota gives 5 years, Hyundai / Kia give 7 years. Hybrid: 5 years for combustion parts, 7-8 years for battery. EV: LEXUS 7 years on chassis and rust, 10 years for battery. Hyundai / Kia 7-8 years on Battery. TESLA and all german brands 2 years on everything. Usually we don't neet waranty, but when we need them, they repair it. After 2 repairs on the same thing without positive result, you get another car. When yours already has high number on the odo, you get another used, but condition as new. Polished and fully cleaned interior. And i think, this is ok, cause when you have 90 000 on the odo, a complete new car would be a little to much. The only quality problems we have are TESLA, no matter where it's build. (the worst come from US), and german brands, with VW as the leader on the failure list. (VW and their sub brands). The most ridiculous thing is Mercedes, who sells the G-WAGON (that boxy thing) without a proper anti-rust on it. We have 4 year old Gs that have rust bubbles everywhere under the paint. And that is a car for 105 000 € base price. 105k and they don't have 40 bucks for a rust paint from a DIY shop. I have painted the frame of my old motorcycle with those kind of paint, and that thing was outside in winter. 10 years in the cold, That paint holds. But now, you saying, that the japanese cars, that have the best quality worldwide, have massive problems in US? Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser are first choice on 5 continents, cause they are invinceable. But not in the US. I don't get this.
@johnjones39311 сағат бұрын
Maybe it's the pride people have in their work. I think it's a cultural thing. In the US, we're lazy and most people only work a job just for the money and take no pride in their performance. In other countries like Japan, people have pride in work.

My 2016 ES350 is nice, there's a "ticking" noise under the hood. Right side. Someone told me it might be a belt tensioner. Anyway, here in LA I have a trusted mechanic, and will get the oil changed too. BTW, 2016 this Lexus built in Tennessee. Good paint. And my doors sound solid when closing. Like my 1992 SC400.

To anyone who read my comment this is what I’ll say my dad was going to get his degree in mechanical engineering and what not and don’t know how to maintain vehicles and he had a rough life and he’s learned and he’s a kind loving man . Point is my dad he has a 2008 Subaru legacy sedan model it’s supposed to be luxury sport vehicle and we have nearly 300,000 miles in and we live in Pennsylvania secondly we have replace the rotors we replace the timing belt replaced the CV axles the the brakes then we also have put in oil we’ve done the oil change he’s mostly done all this and I’ve only helped her in there and I’m still learning we have pretty much my dad has really replaced so much stuff into this vehicle and the reason why we don’t have another vehicle is because everything cost so much more and that’s because everyone has taken advantage of everything

The really bad thing about the Toyota V-6 engines that are FWD is that you have to take off most of the intake manifold to change the rear spark plugs. It's not a really big job but it can be somewhat of an aggravation.

Bottom line the Japanese excellent made Vehicles as well as one owner or if they're taken care of all the maintenance as required on time especially engine oil changes and transmission oil change and flushes the newer Hi-Tech synthetic oils out especially the Valvoline clean and protect is the best oil on the market that will clean the inside of your engine throughout, also the motorkote spelled with a K has some of the best oil additive for your engine transmission transfer case rear differential which will put a thin film of super slick lubricant that's permanent and this film is even as good or better than a pre ignition oil system Scotty I know you have a lot of reviews to read through and a lot of different things to test but these are two items I think would be particularly in the best interest of yourself and other customers can you try and test the Valvoline restoring protect on your wife's car and the motorkote spelled with a k

Scotty, I wish you would quit bad mouthing the tire pressure monitoring system. True, on an old car, most people wouldn't bother with it. My wife isn't the greatest driver and she likes to make sharp turns and scrape the rims on the curbs. The gutter by the curb is also where all the screws and nails end up. I have to put plugs in the tires at least four or five times a year. Here in Michigan, it's easier to press a button on my dash and see all the tire pressures, rather than go around the car with a pressure gauge when it's ten degrees outside. And as a former mechanic myself, I like everything to be working on my vehicles anyway. Yes, I paid $200 to have new sensors installed in my wife's 2016 Traverse. Well worth it in my book. The Traverse is still in pretty nice shape and we plan on keeping it as long as possible since the car manufactures have lost their minds with the prices of new cars.

$7.5K is to much for that. Starting would have to be somewhere real close to $3K for me to even care. MPG doesn't play a part when I'm going to look at a vehicle, I just don't care.
@EvzenKovar-i5p11 сағат бұрын
I would buy that Lexus for that price in a heartbeat. If you could get that for $3K the owner would have to be brain dead. You couldn’t even get an ‘09 Camry with 150K miles for $3K.
@johnjones39311 сағат бұрын
Then don't care. Your Mopar icon says it all. A typical Fiat/Chrysler product is worn out at 50k. 😂 A Lexus ES is just getting broken in at 100k. That's the difference.
@EvzenKovar-i5p10 сағат бұрын
@@johnjones393 exactly, if it doesn’t have frame rust that thing could give me 20 years of service. I’m looking for something like that right now because I don’t want to be forced into this turbo nonsense before I absolutely have to.

@@johnjones393 It does say it all, I have the abilities to keep any vehicle road worthy even a Mopar. 250K on that 99 Ram and it runs and drives like a top. Can you even put in fuel with out needing help? Oil and filter changes at Jiffy Lube? Walmart?

I have a 2009es special edition with 130,000 miles. I bought it a year ago and the car is incredible. I did replace the front seat covers with after market leather, and they look better than original. I wanted a 2013 460 ls till I researched the cost of maintaining it and thought the es would be more practical and reliable. My es is made in Japan and with good maintenance will last me for years! I wonder if my 2015 350rx with 45,000 miles will last as long as the 2009es?
@lpad965111 сағат бұрын
Those 350ES require premium fuel.The same years of Avalons don't. Yet Avalon is rated higher horsepower and quicker acceleration.
@johnjones39311 сағат бұрын
From 2010 and on the ES can run on regular fuel. My 2011 ES runs perfectly on it. The trade off is slightly lower HP, but the car is still plenty quick enough for what it is. What I find interesting about the Avalon vs ES is the Avalon has some extra features that the ES does not, such as rear reclining seats.

I'm pretty sure I recall Scotty saying they didn't

@@johnjones393 Yeah my 2012 avalon has the reclining rear seats. Dropped in 2013. But Lexus has the power steering wheel. At least my friend's 2008 does. Plus his 2008 has the collision avoidance system option and I couldn't find it in an avalon. I got used to looking for that in pictures of cars with the sensor circles in the front and back bumpers and the dash cluster of switches to the left and lower from the steering wheel. My avalon has the rear sun shade while my friend's lexus doesn't. Mine has the turn signal lights on the side mirrors and puddle lights facing down. Oil and filter is the same for Lexus Es and Avalon.
