Starting med school in your 40s is daunting, but it's never too late to chase your dreams. Carl Allamby made a midlife career change after 25 years as a mechanic. He decided to trade his socket wrench for a stethoscope and chase his dream of becoming a doctor. He knew he would be one of the oldest students, but that it would all be worth it to become a doctor.

I went to college in my 30's - attending night school while working as a home contractor and started medical school at 41. I became interested in medicine while volunteering as an EMT. I am 64 now and love being a doctor. I would advise anyone who is interested in changing their path in life, to volunteer in their community and talk to as many people as possible. You will be surprised how you grow by giving of yourself to others.

@@emilyc5625 you’re not being negative... just realistic. And he owned a business which I’m sure provided some profit of he sold it. Some ppl drown in debt to cover expenses and some are lucky to have a spouse like his wife to keep them afloat. Whatever gets the dream achieved though. I’m also blessed to have my spouse’s support.

Omg, I can’t stop crying. I’m 41 and my dream is to be a naturopathic doctor. I’ve been into holistic health my entire life. I’ve gone to school in the past for things that were practical but my heart wasn’t in it. If I do this, I will be almost 48 by the time I finish. This is inspiring. I am going back to college at age 49 after being an automotive technician for 30 years (I was also born without my right hand, but that's a whole other bucket of fish). I am currently certified as an ASE master technician and work as an independent mechanical breakdown inspector. I put my wife, 8 years my junior, through her doctorate degree and she is now a professor. Now I find myself staring down the barrel at the opportunity to pursue my MBA. This video was really helpful!

I just read this and cry 😢 like a baby wow, I love the medical field and thinking about becoming a doctor but I’m afraid I’m latina some words I don’t catch plus I’m 46 I’m a medical assistant and one day a doctor told me you can continue your education I can see a nurse practitioner in you but life circumstances stop me, I will pray and see if o can do this dream come true 😢

I'm 32 too. All I want to do is get a master's in either psychology or Linguistics. That's been harder said than done for me. I have the money, I have the time, but I've shifted my thinking on how to retire. It seems that thinking about retirement and going to college don't mix that well. I don't want to be over 40 when I finish my B.S. but I have a feeling exactly that is going to happen.

They have post back program for some schools and other options is Caribbean medicine school not bad. One of my doctors told me it doesn’t matter where you choose to go to school to become a doctor longs you achieve your dream.

I love this story. Wonderful story. I've worked in the medical field for over 15 years and always wanted to become a pediatrician. Had children, taken care of them and family and now the kids are grown and it's time to accomplish my dreams. No matter how much time has passed, I still have the urge to get into med school. It seems the feeling never went away. I am starting MA (medical assistant) courses to get the patient care. You are NEVER too old. I've seen an 80 year old woman get up from her wheel chair and get her degree. I am so inspired by people like her and this ex mechanic, now physician. You are inspiring. @@kishadanyelle2183 You are not old. I currently have 3 private teachers. A Composition/Theory Teacher, Piano Teacher, and a Voice Teacher. I am still learning at 41 as well as teaching piano for many years now. I am going to become a Concert Pianist and perform my Compositions. You can become a Song Writer. You are not too old. Work hard and you can make it! Find a good Songwriting Teacher. You don't have to go to college for music to study songwriting. I probably won't go back to college. I realized I am learning everything I need to learn, with my 3 Teachers I have now, to achieve my dreams.

I’m a 41 year old who married a registered nurse and I was a systems admin then a realtor. Well my wife went and got her real estate license so I said ok smart ass I’ll go get me a degree in nursing lol I’m excited and motivated but I want to go all the way to psychiatric nurse practitioner.
