The restaurant was getting shut down regardless of who they told Anton the chef was: the health inspector saw a mass infestation of over a hundred rats in the restaurant.

“Ratatouille” is a pesant stew popular in France. That’s why it was unheard of for a restaurant to cook it, and that’s why it reminded Ego of his mum’s cooking (as he must have lived in a pesant family).

They actually sent the animators to cooking school while making this movie, so they could really get a grasp on how things worked and the movements of cutting and prepping and all of that. And Linguini is actually voiced by a Pixar background artist, Lou Romano. :D It was really, really neat to see them address the heckin' POWER a smell or especially a taste can have sparking childhood memories - once you've experienced it yourself, you know there's nothing else like it. I love how you can instantly see more color in Ego's face immediately after that memory and - something that was just pointed out to me yesterday - he seems to have gained a little bit of weight by the epilogue. Indicating that he's actually *enjoying* being a foodie now and it's not so stringent as "if I don't love it, I don't swallow."

Also Ego said Something about only swallowing food he enjoyed (he spits out the other foods) so that’s probably why he’s so skinny at the beginning (at the end he really liked the food rely makes so he eats a lot more of that food)

15:14 interestingly enough in the first shot we see of Ego in his office. It's actually in the shape of a coffin! So maybe he is half dead 😆 Also if you ever do want to see more Emilie, there is a Pixar short for Ratatouille called "Your Friend the Rat." (Not saying this as a recommendation but more just giving info if you are curious when you have the time.)

Remy deserved all the praise. Half way through he wanted to let everyone know that he was the one cooking, that is why they revealed in the end that it was him and didn’t lie anymore. They didnt want someone else to take the credit anymore.

This is one of my favourite movies from my childhood, but you might blame that on the fact that that was one of the few movies we had available for our long car rides to our holiday in France (from Germany)... We had these car-TVs that you could attach to the back of the front seat and put in DVDs...

This movie is one of Pixar’s greatest. It’s so unique and interesting. And yea, like some people have said, the health inspector shut them down so no reason to lie, but there’s one other reason I believe Pixar chose to let him tell the truth. By them showing Ego that Remi, a rat, cooked his meal, I think it was there that he finally understood what "Anyone Can Cook" really meant.

It's still hard to believe that Patton Oswalt of all people got to voice Remy. One of the best comedians of all time. I loved him as Agent Koenig in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Also yeah, there's apparently a photo in the old woman's house if you look around - I think during the swinging chandelier part - that indicates she was indeed in some war or resistance when she was younger. So she's prepared for this rat invasion. XDD

The total premise of this movie is just plain insane. But... it works! And it works well! You love the characters, rat and human both. This may be the first animated movie that makes you want to eat the animated food! The premise may be just plain insane, but movie is just plain... fun.

The Rat Killer shop actually exsist in Paris and it inspired Brad Bird and the Pixar team to include it in the movie to show the point of rats can't co-exsist with humans cuz humans will exterminate rats where they aren't suppoused to be (like in the kitchen of a resturant, especially gourmet resturants like Gustaues). They even do display rats in traps in the window just like in the film.

I took my two nieces, then in grade school, to see this. Marina, the elder sister, was so taken with this movie that as soon as we left the theater, she said she wanted to cook something. Back then I did a bit of cooking beyond heating up frozen meals. Regrettably, I wasn't able to oblige her because my sister-in-law's kitchen was such a disorganized mess.

I love how natural and honest your reactions are - I like you had a little criticism at the end, even though like others pointed out, the restaurant would still be closed because of the health inspector and skinner - so there was no chance and so it's most important for the message as a whole that they show ego the true cook - so that we can have this wonderful review at the end of him ^^ and of course you still loved it but it's great to see that your reaction can go in any direction and that makes so powerful reactions like the one to cars 3 even better

I thought I was gonna hate this movie because of how much I hate rats in real life, but blending all the right ingredients together, this is definitely in Pixar’s top 10 in my book
