I bought a 2023 Elantra SEL with the convenience package in September of 2022, driven over 20k miles and I love it. Drives very smooth, i dont even feel it shift. I got the SEL so not hybrid but i get 46 mpg at 75 mph, 52 mpg at 60 mph and 38-40 mpg in the city. The driver assist features are great, i basically dont have to do anything when i get on the highway until i leave the highway or if the lines break. It's the best handling car I've driven by far, I've driven a couple of bmws and Mercedes. I also have a 100k mile warranty on everything and a lifetime powertrain warranty which was the biggest selling point tbh

That was the big problem with the sonata hybrid at work when they first came out ... the car would literally buck trying to hunt for a gear, the transmission didn't last long. At the time they also had issues with the power relays for the HV battery pack overheating. I actually prefer CVT for hybrid, it matches the power curve better.

Also Scotty, all Hyundais come with a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper. which is better then most manufactures right now. And the even bigger cherry on top is the ten year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty they have for the first owner of the car, and for hybrids the hybrid system has the ten year 100,000 mile warranty. They seem to really be trusting the quality of their cars, Even the Elantra N has the warranty.

Scotty my 2024 Kia Soul CVT tranny doesn't seem to have any hesitation TBH about it. However I'm an 81yo rather conservative driver that strays basically no more than 10% over the limit. Its very smooth in fact. Longevity? Of course I have no clue but I needed that big warranty in case something serious goes amiss. Like it or not CVT is here to stay and in fact within 5 years you're gonna be hard pressed to find a geared auto tranny. Yep the writing is on the wall. My suggestion regarding these things is to keep the lead atta your foot! My brother recently rode with me and he could not believe the easy egress for such a physically small exterior. He was impressed with how quiet it was as well for such a "cheap" (if you can call ANY new vehicle cheap) vehicle.

I just nabbed a '22 with the Limited trim and videos like this make me more and more confident that it was the right choice. The car feels great, looks great, and the limited trim has so many nice additions (Bose speakers, heated/ventilated seats, a wireless fast charger in the center console, as well as a gorgeous display). Upgrading from a 2012 Traverse with 110k miles on it makes it feel like a goddamn space ship

One of my sons has a 2017 Forte 2.0 that had 3400. worth of engine work at 70K. he was the second owner, so no warranty. Another son has a 2017 Santa Fe 2.4 that blew the engine at 80K. It was purchased as a certified used car, and luckily he had an extended warranty to cover it. The son with the Forte asked why his was using oil; I told him to get rid of it before it completely blows up as well.

I got a similar set-up, (I believe), with a 2017 Kia Niro PHEV with the dual-clutch and 1.6 liter engine. Been changing fluids regularly and so far nothing amiss. Transmission fluid was quite easy to change because if you overfill it will drip out, so you know when you are done. I think best to be wary of the dual clutch "actuator" fluid which seems to get dirty quite fast. But also very easy to check, drain and refill. Oh, and phenomenal fuel efficiency. I get about 67 mpg mixed driving, 50 mpg highway (hybrid mode).

I own one of these and love it. The gas mileage is UNBELIEVABLE. If driven smart you shouldn't have any trouble getting 50+ miles out of you Elantra in the city. The "Smart" mode keeps you fuel efficient and the "Sports" almost turns it into another vehicle. I tend to use sports mode when merging onto the highway and it's really pretty neat to get that extra torque with the push of a button.

My only experience with a CVT really is on my new-ish Civic, and after getting used to it, I honestly like it better than every other automatic transmission I've used. Now when I drive cars with automatic transmissions, it bugs me how the torque drops off momentarily while it shifts gears, to the point where I'd rather have the "lag" (albeit minimal) with more constant torque of the CVT. Am I crazy?

Ideally, I wouldn't get either a CVT or a DCT in my car, but if I have to choose, I'd much sooner pick the former. Both have their drivability issues, but CVTs are far more reliable, especially the eCVT used in Toyota hybrids (which is a different design than regular CVTs). Hyundai has had a lot of issues with the DCTs used in their gasoline vehicles (I think there's even a class action suit) and there's no reason to think that the DCT on this hybrid would fare any better. And this is not a Hyundai-specific problem either since there's no car brand that I can think of that hasn't had issues with their DCTs! So, I'm surprised by Scotty's positive review to say the least, especially since he always trashes Hyundai's! Maybe the 'big' owner standing by was a factor, lol.

I have a 2017 Elantra non-hybrid (don't really know if they made a hybrid then). I have 117,000. Coil pack issues around 52,000 miles...i was told the 2018 had a recall but not the 2017...coil packs were replaced under warranty though. Last winter, around 105,000 miles, it started having cold start issues. Thing sounds like it wants to die until it's warmed up. Someone recommended i try keeping it in my garage to see if that helps, but I don't think that person recognizes their privilege because my house doesn't have a garage 😅 outside of these issues, it hasn't been a bad vehicle. My biggest complaint is the lack of power. Trying to merge to the interstate is a dangerous game in an Elantra 😅😅 will probably be my one and only Hyundai.

I suggest you drive the competition, and you might change your opinion. Unless you buy German, it is about as nice as you can get and if you buy German, you will realize what problems are on a car, they are constant issues but great cars to drive. Paid 33k (Canadian) after tax etc. Even in 3-4 years I can still sell it for 17k. So really I'd be looking at a $16,000 cost for the car over the 7-8 years I have it. That works out to 190/month for a new car with an amazing warranty. I haven't been without a few issues. My driver Seatback bolts came loose, meaning my driver seat would move/shift around on turns. Replaced under warranty. Other issues were recall issues that were fixed. (Exploding seatbelt pretensioner) and something to do with the main brain/cluster. Both quickly fixed at no cost. Otherwise, even after three years I look forward to driving it like it was the first day. Not a single time have I looked at another car for what I could afford at the time and be like, I should have got that one... My next car when I sell this one will 100% be an Elantra N or another N something depending on what's around.

Gotta tell you, have a 2015 Hyundai Accent. Love it. Easy to work on. Not to much gone wrong. Has a real transmission. Change oil every 3000 not 5000. Use Lucas upper cylinder cleaner every few tanks to combat the GDI common clog up issues Scotty reportes on in prior video. No hesitation drives great at 130000 miles. Take care of it, easy while braking and bumps. It will take care of you at 40 plus miles to gallon. I usually get 300000 or more on my vehicles. My 96 Ranger has 350000 miles on it and still going.

I respect Scotty for giving fair consideration of a hybrid/Hyundai/non-CVT transmission when fair consideration is due. Generally he's very dismissive of anything electric and/or Hyundai.

With all due respect . NO ! Scotty has been praising Hybrid Toyota and Honda vehicles for years . His son has a Hybrid Toyota van he has praised and talked about quite a lot .

Dct transmissions have just as many reliability problems that cvt transmissions do when you don’t maintain them, and as consumer reports found most people are not maintaining their transmissions well

I have never been a fan of Hyundai/ Kia . But ; they haven't marked up 40 % like so many other auto manufacturers . I'm planning to get one . 😮

What great advice, even if Scotty dislikes certain brands he does recognise the positive aspects. I'm on my second CVT car and I agree I can't stand them, regardless of fuel economy. I sometimes drive my moms V6 Kia van and my friends old Volvo SUV.. Their gas guzzlers but those 6-speeds move!

After the Ford focus and Volkswagen Beatle dual clutch transmission failing I am very skeptical of Hyundai building one that’s any better 😂

Scotty like all the Toyota Hybrids use the CVT, and they drive like a dream.

I looked at this car here in canada $40,000 so I walked away. Thats a lot of gas money and repairs for my car, If this car was $20,000 when I went and looked at it I would have taken it,
