I bought a OG white hot 20 anniversary recently on sale for $200. I played with the regular AI and the milled for about an hour. The milled felt fantastic but at that price point I compared it to a Scotty and to my hands, the Scotty had such a nice pop off the face that if I was in that price range I would choose the Scotty. The regular AI felt great too but I didn’t notice any huge difference between the Regular OG and the AI. I loved the Blue but couldn’t justify $150 for blue. It did have a nicer pop when struck well but I was hitting the regular OG just the same. The biggest thing I love about mine the feed back I get. Off centered sticks have a harshness to them that tells me I’ve hit it poorly. When you hit the sweet spot it’s an addicting soft pop that feels great. And the looks of the OG are fantastic. Great review Rick!

Cool Clubs did a good test of their claims. They built a little putting rig to deliver the same put every time, and sure enough there was less distance loss from off-center hits on the AI putter compared to a standard putter. Worth checking out IMO, they are a much more data oriented channel.

It was my Grade 9 business class that opened my eyes to marketing “tricks”. This is what the website says, “Our revolutionary Ai-ONE urethane insert delivers more consistent ball speeds, even from off-center hits, leaving putts up to 21% closer to the hole.” 21% closer to the hole than what? A rocket ship? A baseball bat?
@mattsub96595 ай бұрын
21 percent closer than an off center hit. They are basically just saying you won’t lose as much speed from an off center hit hence you’ll be on average 21 percent closer to the hole in that regard. I don’t believe it’s saying it will fix a pull or a push. I think Rick misinterpreted what they meant by that, but I don’t necessarily think callaway was being genuine by phrasing it like that either.
@ellislavallee5 ай бұрын
@@mattsub9659 that is my point my friend! They leave out the rest of the statement on purpose. It is a marketing tactic companies use to trick us into believing what they say, in this case that the putter gets 21% closer to the hole. They purposely leave out what they compared it to to get that 21%. Just be aware that these statements are vague and misleading for a reason as they are meant to fool the consumer. In my opinion it’s a disgraceful way to market a product.

Honestly Rick got the Three T milled, get a custom welded Plumber next on it, can’t love it more ! As you say I’m not an agressive putter, and this has changed my game, often living short with no feel on soft insert putters, its been now abt 10 rounds i use it and i average about 30 putts the worse round being a 33 puts on cored greens ! I have so many 20+ feet putts that barely touched the edge of the hole and staying in that 2 feet ring, its not forgiving by any mean but that’s crazy how the right insert can drastically change your putting game. Also i had few Scotties, and honestly the headcover on this ai on milled, even tho not astonishing, feel more premium than the one i have on my Scotties. And i am a Scottie fan also ! Never tries or played with their copper instep, pretty sure it would feel similar

I am very careful with my gear, I use head covers on my irons. The putter after only a few months have several scratch marks on the top of it. Mainly from wet dirt and sand on the greens in morning rounds while wiping it down with a dry towel. You would think for $350 they would sand blast the finish with the blueing. It just seems like a cheap paint job? Took it back to the store and got the oh well call the manufacturer speech. This may not bother some, but I’m thinking over a short period of time it will not wear well.

Did exactly that: bought the AI one (two-ball) and put my Scotty Cameron away. The Scotty Cameron was nice on shorter putts, fast greens and/or downhill putts, but when you have to whack it (uphill, slow putts, slow greens) and you miss the sweetspot, it just dies. The Odessey is much more forgiving which is nice on longer putts; you dont have to hit the sweetspot and it still rolls out. I think that's what they mean with "21% closer". The Scotty was too difficult for me.

I genuinely dislike the manner in which people assume so quickly when it comes to new golf tech. Of course, drivers and irons are all the same year by year, with price hikes, but this time, it is actually different withh the Odyssey AI One Putter (DB Wide). As an 8 handicap golfer, I've used PuttView and TrackMan Putting, gathering data with my old Scotty Cameron Special Select Double Wide. After thousands of putts from about 15 feet with both putters, I've seen an 18% increase in made putts with the Odyssey. While AI might seem like a buzzword, it's crucial to try the equipment and see the results firsthand. On the course, I've noticed a significant improvement in strokes gained on the green, as tracked by Arccos. This experience highlights the importance of testing over assumptions.
