Thanks for the update, is the TP-Link 3000 range extender in this video working with the meta quest 3 now at 2400mbps or you still had to use WI-FI 6E routers ONLY?

@@undisturbed809 i still use my extender but it will not give you more than 800-900 Mbps unless your inches from the device. But grate news; Meta refuted this claim and said they are still working on the issue. Se community post for more.

Sorry! You said 3000, not 1500 which I am using. Actually, as you see in the video, it has pretty good signals, so I'm guessing the 3000 model will give you better performance on v60 as well. But I returned this unit so I can't confirm it.

@@MrTeeF thank you for replying, may I ask why you returned the 3000 if it performs better than 1500? Also I was thinking to buy the TP-Link AXE5400 6E Range, which is the WI-FI E version of the 3000 that you returned. Do you think this is a good idea or should I get a dedicated router instead?

I have exact same issue and exact same fluctuations. I can play without problems on Airlink, but I feel like I am currently configured under specs (lower bitrate etc.). Good to see that this is not a defective unit (unless we all have defective units :( ) My router is RT-AX55 running in 802.11ax mode

I'm glad they fixed it for the people who had issues with it. I'm glad I can get a solid 2400mbps connection with my Asus RT-AX86u pro router from my bedroom to the living room.

Got a new unit today and can confirm that the problem persists. So this is 100% a firmware issue with communication between AX routers and the headset. With the 6e though it fluxing down to a minimum of 1720 Mbps so there you can't notice it untill you look at the preformence stats. But still a huge problem as most users don't have a wifi6e network. Virtual Desktop has reported the bug to meta, but still remember to submit a bug report to meta. The more people do this the more they will focus on the issue.

I don't own a Quest 3 but as you say, it's perfect at 1200 on the Quest 2 However, as I have an extensive history in mobile phone hardware and software, I would suggest trying different wireless modes on the 5Ghz band from your router. Depending on your router, but for example try Auto or N/AC/AX mixed etc or whatever options your router provides. Then experiment with the channels, again for example try 20MHz, 40MHz and 80MHz. Also, try different control channels such as Auto, 36 ....44....64.....100...etc and all those in-between. Over the years I have found better speeds and consistency when experimenting with these values. Different mobile phones have performed better or worse under such variations. After all, it's basically a mobile phone strapped to your head.

Huge stuttering issues here too with a Quest 3 and my Wifi 5Ghz wifi. If I use the Quest 2, everything is working flawlessly with Airlink. With the 3, I can't do anything, and I can see macroblocks everywhere, meaning that the headset is reducing the bandwidth because it struggles for no reason. Even if I cap the Airlink bandwidth to the minimum, 10Mbps, it doesn't work properly. I have a TP-Link Archer C5400 router. I really hope Meta will look into it asap because I'll definitely send it back as PCVR is actually all I do with my headset.

Welcome with the gang. We all have this issue. The only way I manage to fix it a little bit is keep the Channel bandwidth to 80 MHZ if you already had and to change the control channel to 44 (previously have 149). Hope it help. My brother bought the Quest 3 yesterday and I have to go help him to pair the Quest with my tablet ( is phone didnt want to pair it) . I check is wfi and he got the same issue and with the WIFI 6E it was worst.

One issue I found is my games were capped at 60fps in the headset so I had to turn off to where my monitor would match hz with my quest in the VD settings

I'm in the gang. My router is the Asus RT-AX86U. I test in Virtual Desktop with the codec H264+. By default, 80% of the time I enter in VD, it give a VR Bitrate of 30 mbps. I played with the wifi configuration of the rooter. My best result is when I changed the bandwith from "20/40/80" to "40" MHz. With 40 MHz, each time I enter in VD VR Bitrate is between 170 and 230 mbps. I hope it can help some one.😄

changing band width from auto, to 160mhz increased my wifi 6 connection from 1200mbps to 2400 mbps, try that if you can.

The MAIN issue seems to stem from WiFi AC Bands (WiFi 5) vs WiFi AX and AXe bands (WiFi 6 and 6e) There seems to be issue with all AC bands with the stuttering and issues overall. This issue has been reported to META by Virtual Desktop. Hopefully Meta will have something on this

@user-jy1rx7vo2c , your statement would be valid, except my wifi signal works fine with all other devices I've used on it. Your assumption seems to be based on having only the Quest connected to it and having issues, which is incorrect. The other devices connected to it don't have these random drops. Also, initially, the quest didn't drop randomly, but after updates, now it does. The last time I tried it, it no longer was dropping. I'll have to check later today to see if it was updated, and that fixed it.

Further update... For anyone with a Quest 3 From Virtual Desktop developer "There’s a Wi-Fi performance issue with routers operating in Wi-Fi 5 (AC) mode. This has been reported to Meta and they are looking into it. Workaround is to use a Wi-Fi 6 router running in AX mode or to use a Wi-Fi 6e (6 GHz) connection."

Even without virtual desktop, the range and consistency of the wifi signal is working pretty badly, with the quest 2 im hable to play online from pretty far away of the router without it disconnecting and bullshit, with the quest 3, same distance, and even 3 m closer and it just loses connection every 5 minutes, even if the signal is good, idk if it may be refreshing the connection at a higer threshold or something(so it need a better connection)

That could be bottleneck problem. If the wifi dedicated to your headset that should in theory eliminate that.

I found this issue . It's same Quest 2 in the first day just unleashed. Quest 2 used : integrated Wi-Fi SoC named "FastConnect 6200" . Nowadays, almost new wifi routers on the market licensed of "FastConnect 6200" .... so compatible is high. But Quest 3 used : "FastConnect 6700" , it's not new but many routers on the market not compatible or low. You should try wifi routers of Qualcomm with FastConnect 6700 system inside for the best. I doubt.

I have a similar problem now. I've had the quest 2 for years, and had the 3 since Christmas 23. Air link seemed to work fine, now my Quest 3 air link is choppy as heck even when sitting right beside my wifi5 router. With our phones we can be anywhere in the house a full bars wifi5 connection. What the heck is going on?? I'll check tomorrow if my quest 2 does the same thing. And I'll try virtual desktop instead of air link

Seems a simple option for wifi 5 and wifi 6e on the quest 3 would resolve this. Im only few feet away from modem and cant watch a youtube video or use steam without stuttering

Been updating this issue since launch. The bug is alot better now but still has issues with hardware. Se my latest community post. Wifi6 160hz or Wifi6e will give you better preformence. But unfortunately the culprit is poor design and antenna placement.

Quest 3 has what i would call nintendo switch wifi. Also for some reason putting your hands anywhere close to the headset will disrupt the conmection really badly. Im on a 5ghz router since my ISP doesnt provide me with a 6ghz one. I get "good" wifi strength when the router is less than a meter from me. Unless i am poiting the headset straight ahead to the router it will go back to excellent. Wifi is reception is bad tried airlink and that was bad enough for me to get a cable. I bought a new headset thinking maybe i got a dud but the second headset has the same exact problem. Both headsets manufactured in September. Has meta acknowledged the problem? Is this a H/W problem or could this be fixed with a S/W update?

i hear so much confliciting stuff about the quest 3. on one hand, people say wifi5 is perfectly enough, others say only wifi 6 is stable as in to stutter or drops and the compression rate over wifi 5 makes pcvr very unpretty

When it works on Wifi5, you should have 800 Mbps which is not grate compared to the USB3s 2,4Gbps. So to make that work VirtualDesktop and Airlink needs to heavily compress the image quality leaving a lot of artifacting and goasting. Wifi 6 gives you 1200 Mbps giving you a pretty good image quality and more than good enough for most. Wifi 6e though with 6G gives you 2400 Mbps and that is equivalent to the USB3s 2.4Gbps so naturally close to perfect.... BUT! Right now, it's super unstable. I'm hoping that v59 will fix it.

It's had several improvements since this video, and per the latest update to v.60 i finally get full speed at 2401Mbps a foot from the router. Unfortunately when you move away 3 meter it drops to 1900 suggesting that this unfortunately is due to poor design and antenna placement. Se my latest community post.

I have to agree, I have a D-Link AX5400 and a TP-Link AX1500, the TP-Link was great when I first got it 6 months ago, it's been deteriorating in the last couple months to the point it's unusable (with Q2, Q3 and Pico 4), almost like it's self destructing. My D-Link however is rock solid with all headsets listed. From this moment, I will be avoiding TP-Link routers like the plague, I do however still very much like their Ethernet switches! :)
