There is no doubt that you two make a fantastic match. I have never seen you supervise or give orders to each other around. You are remarkably united in your thoughts, and your work manifests your quality results. Your KZbin channel has become one of my favorites. I was raised and educated in Vancouver, B.C. I was a commercial pilot and traveled the entire province of British Columbia by air and land. Now at 80 y/o, retire in Arcadia, CA. I will faithfully continue to watch your videos. Keep up the excellent work and humor. You bring me back good memories of Canada. Congratulations on your show.

Hi Katie, tell Greg that if he were to get a hook wielded to the middle of the tractor bucket, there are a hole lot more things you can get done, when you hook a chain to it. Like putting it around your firer wood ( the tree that is ) and lifting off the ground, so you can cut through all the way and you don't have to bend over so much to cut it. Work smarter, not harder. I also cut a lot of fire wood and I only have a 21 horse tractor. They sell a wood bar that hooks up on your 3 point hitch, it has holes in the bar. I put a trailer ball in the middle hole, the others I put shackles to loop chains through for hooking up logs. That way you can back right up to the butt of the log, chain it and lift the but up of the ground. It drags better that way. For fire wood make or get a small trailer that you can hook to the ball, on the hitch. You can go around and pick up a lot more wood that way. Oh, one more thing, with that hook on the bucket, if you have a tree in a hard place ( like say down over a hill and I have seen you have some ) you can lift the end up and it will pull up a lot easier. Its easier on the tractor that way. I hope that this helps you in anyway, from putting undo stress on your tractor, to helping you, not hurt your and Katie's backs anymore then what's not needed. Take care you two, your body's are only young once.

You shouldn’t push or pull. The infeed and outfeed rollers move the wood at the correct speed for the 3 knives to do their work correctly. By pushing, you can damage the knives and you don’t get a smooth cut. The key is to have the infeed and outfeed rollers good and clean and clean and wax the table. If you have good sharp knives and a clean planer, the workpiece will feed itself easily. I have this same exact planer. I’ve had it for 13 years.

Just a suggestion, a bit of paint thinner on a rag and wipe the table on your planer. Planing green wood leaves pitch on the table and makes it difficult for the wood to move through.

Greg if you keep your tables that you use to cut ,plane even and stable you will have much greater success in wood working. If the planer is set right it will pull the material through all by it's self . Then 1/4 to1/2 crank will do. Smaal increments provides smoother sufaces. Hopefully a few helpful ideas from many many years wood working. Have a good and keep up the good work . Love the channel and the scenery.

@waynegauthier155 Жыл бұрын
Deck and stairs are looking great. Greg, why are you pushing the wood through the planer, it has feed roller that advances the wood through the planer. If you are pushing the wood, you have adjusted the cutting depth of the blades too deep, which makes the motor work harder and will soon wear the motor out prematurely. Blades changed/sharpened often if you use the planer a lot.

That is some very good looking wood & the water seal brings out the look even better. My front steps are 10' at the bottom and 6' at the top with curved stringers on the outside 2. I laminated thin 1/8"x12" boards to make them 1 1/2", build my main stringers, then temporarily place treads to mark out the location of the cuts on the curved stringers. Hindsight, I wish I had not cutout the curved stringers, but placed supports so the curved stringers were whole height and more visible. FYI: curved stringers are not just an arc, they are actually helical. You can see them in my thumbnail picture (zoomed in 500%).
