I recently learned something about chainsaws and falling trees I never knew about and quite frankly is pretty cool!!! Most all chainsaws have a perpendicular line to the bar on the body of the saw, between the handles...which is meant to be used when cutting your directional notch to use as a sight line guide for where you want the tree to fall! Now it's not gna make the tree fall exactly, all trees are different but it's a neat trick to help you sight in when making that notch. You learn something everyday!! 🇨🇦🇺🇲💯✌

If any underground services enter your home (gas, hydro, telephone, water, sewage), find out where they are before digging. You had to place marker tape minimum 30 cm above the pipes the first time after it's easy to dig a hole later without breaking anything.

My dad and I have always used yellow cedar for fence posts or anything to do with outside red Cedar which is not as many because my dad only burnt yellow cedar for firewood it always burnt the hottest and left hardly any ash in this wood stove so that's what he burnt was strictly yellow cedar and seems that he worked for logging company since he was 15 years old he got all his firewood for free and they even bucked it up a lot of times at the way past the other side of Mount Washington they would buck it up and then after work we would all go up there and load it up on their trucks and bring it home My dad and my uncle operated the first faller bunchers that came onto the island my uncles was track and my dads was tires they were the highest seniority guys in timber West and I tell you they may he made a lot of money running that machine he started driving log and truck when he was 15 years old because he lied of his age until they got the followed bunchers my dad's name was even written on a rock Bluff on the Canyon by the backside of Mount Washington because he had a trailer turnover and lean up against the Rock Bluff because the loader operator loaded him upside heavy and he was lucky he didn't go over the other way because his truck and trailer would went right down into the canyon it was written Norman on the side of the Rock Bluff My uncle Malcolm used to run the tugboat on Comox Lake until they stopped running tugboats

Maybe you could take a stump or a section of log and bury it in the ground at the exact right height so when you disconnect the backhoe attachment, it’ll sit right on it. That way your legs don’t bleed down and cause excess pressure and it also keeps it at a good height for when you want to re-hook it up. Food for thought

Tension is in the furthest out edge of the firewood round. So when the axe or maul hits closer to the heart there is less chance of it splitting. On a large tree round sometimes you need to create a fault line for the ring to split. Your aim is crucial and improves with practice. Also to save your maul or axe handle try to not split the far side or over the closer side of the firewood ring. You'll find that if it splits the handle will contact the wood nearest to you and it will split the handle or weaken it over time.
