I too have been putting off doing the stud conversion. It’s just so much easier. However, I’ve been using wheel hangar studs in the interim. They work really well for those that haven’t converted or don’t want too. Awesome vid as usual!!

I think studs make it less likely that you scratch the inner part of the wheel where the nut goes

About time, your back will thank you now ;-)... Glad to see you also went with the "beefier" thread conversion (14x1.25 to 14x1.5) as well since the more course thread is more robust and less prone to cross threading. A tip for you (and others) , after you wash your car, take it for a spin around the block to help get any residual water out from around the studs and nut threads (even if you use a blower to help dry your car). That little technique will help prevent the onset of corrosion of your studs...

Hey Tommy. Yeah this mod makes it supper easy to swap out wheels. For me personally I prefer the bmw wheel bolts, for two reasons; the locking key is unique and cannot be replicated easily and I fear the studs are going to break when I go to crack open the wheel nuts.

@@TommyLGarage I waffled around on this for a long time before pulling the trigger. While I was concerned that red thread locker would be more permanent than I wanted, the instructions for all the stud kits I have seen specify red. The big concern is probably when removing a nut, you don't want the stud to back out at all. Especially as mentioned earlier, the tightening torque of the stud is pretty low compared to the tightening torque of the nuts.

Personally whenever I torque my wheels down I'm always more comfortable doing it while they're still hanging in the air so you're not putting pressure on the studs/nuts/wheel lug interface when you drop it on the ground. I guess it's harder to do with RWD car but maybe get something to press the brakes or something :p
@Potenza4154 жыл бұрын
This is what we do in our garage. If potentially one of the nuts is not 100% seated and you drop the weight of the car onto the wheel, torque it as much as you want but that wheel will not be considered tightened if it's being torqued crooked
