Theres a tool from Lisle called pilot pins part # 13950, use them daily. Would be ok for summer tires but prob not so good for winters considering the corrosion. Could end up torquing the studs back every time the nut is removed. If the nut and stud don't become rust welded together

Yup. First mod I did on my Porsche Cayman. Especially good for tracking the car too because of the track well-set. I run the Tarrett Engineering studs, and I’ve been happy with them, but I do like the hex wrench fastener on yours-looks much easier to install. Also, if you track the car (and therefore change the pads a lot) put in caliper studs too 👍🏻

I was looking at studs for days online after breaking my back changing my tires in the garage in the middle of the night with freezing temperatures outside. I waited too long to change them because a tire shop used a torque wrench on my locks and stripped them all. Was trying to get them off without damaging my 19" wheel but ended up having to pay somebody to get them off and wheels got damage in the wells anyway....oh well. You instantly put me over that edge. I'll be putting them on when i swap back to summers. I'll even use your links ;-)

Lug bolts are easy if you know how to. Keep the bolt in the holes. You wont lose them. When install pick up the wheel by the spokes with your thumb on the head of bolt. Look through the spokes and guid bolt to hole. In your 335 look for the hidden tool that bmw provides. Look in the battery cover. In the tray under the carpet there is a guide pin.

@jake_spence5 жыл бұрын
That's an option, but I'd rather install this conversion kit once and never have to deal with it again.
@pauld95425 жыл бұрын
The reason BMW uses bolts vs studs is to prevent stripping the lug nuts, especially if an impact is used without a torque stick. You only need one 17mm all thread to hang the wheel and then line up the bolts and holes. Nuts provide maybe 10 threads of engagement whereas bolts probably 3x more.
@jake_spence5 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from, but I've never stripped a lug nut and the lug bolts have the same potential to strip. The lug bolts only thread in so far as seen on the short end of the stud. I don't imagine it's much more than a lug nut, but possible. Interesting points!

When i bought my BMW 320d 2001, there already was with 17.inch wheals and it looks great, no need for spacer, but after some time i tuck it away and sold it, and the reason is because when i get about three passengers sitting in the back the car is heavier and ties touch the chase and might start rust and get ugly, so that's why i tuck it away.

Are your rotors flipped on the 135i? I thought the vanes need to go the other direction.
@jake_spence5 жыл бұрын
You just made me look way too far into this, lol. I recently did the brakes and these rotors are pointing in the opposite direction compared to my previous drilled/slotted. But I checked the stickers on each rotor and they are install on the correct corner. After reading up, apparently it's the internal cooling vanes that you can't see which need to be installed in the proper direction. The other slots can go either way.

@@jake_spence Okay, that makes sense, when I saw yours I was questioning my install because I just did mine, so was reading way too much about it also lol
