I think america is pretty far behind on things like this. I'm positive the uk has had this for a long time now. But I can tell you that it wont change much. One of our biggest supermarkets (tesco) has a food range called "Hearty Food Co" and if you dont pay too much attention to the branding it almost gives you a subconscious thought in your head that it's healthy, due to how similar the two words are. Companies will always find a way to pull the wool over the general populations eyes.

@@skythebastard Yeah the system is flawed because the score is only based on comparable products. It's not an objective measure of healtiness, it's a measure of how healthy it is compared to other brands or other types of that product. So unhealthy cereal can get an A score because it's less unhealthy than other cereal etc. And most people don't know that this is how it works.

My cousin who was a dietician teacher at my middle school even pushed this story of sugary cereals being good for you. I was extremely obese as a child and I always struggled with why, because I ate how I was told to but I couldn't ever lose weight. Eventually during high school I cut back on cereal and sugar hardcore and did start eating foods more dense in protein and fats and sure enough, I dropped 30 pounds in a summer and came back to school much healthier. It's sickening to see this being pushed yet again, I don't want any child to have to go through the mental and physical torment I did because I was so confused and angry, I ate how I was told to, how I was supposed to and "ate healthy", but I could never lose the weight. I'm from Canada where I guess we have stricter advertisement laws-never officially looked into it but seems to be the case from what I've seen and heard over the years. I still remember being so confused watching a Fruit-Loops commercial where they said "Part of a complete breakfast!" and they had a bowl of the cereal on a tray with a glass of orange juice and a glass of milk.... Cereals like Fruit-Loops, Captain Crunch, Lucky Charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch were all considered treats when I was growing up. The only cereal we really had in the house was bran flakes, Cheerios and maybe frosted Mini-Wheats. The fact that the American companies have the gall to whine about "freedom of speech" is absolute bull shit. It really pisses me off when people complain about their "freedom" being impeded on when it's really not; they just can't handle the idea of someone giving them a nudge in the right direction. It's akin to the child-ish mindset of, "Because you told me to, I'm not gonna do it now."

You go through school and see so many overweight children, and you see their parents... Who are also overweight. Its kind of sad. But because of that i now appreciate being forced to eat shit like Broccoli when i was young. It also makes all this modern era "diet science" kind of scary. Legions of people pedantically trying to figure out what the optimal nutrient intake is and what diet can be used to achieve that.... When the answer has been sitting infront of us since we were fu cking monkeys. AKA a balanced diet of fruit, veg, meat, dairy, grains AND EXERCISE. Its not rocket science, it never has been. Did you know the FEDERAL reserve is a collection of private banks, it has the power to print money and loan it to the federal government on interest. So rather than the U.S Govt print it's own money backed by gold or silver AS STATED IN THE CONSTITUTION we leave it to banks who collect interest on the money thats backed by nothing, and we wonder why inflation has been steadily rising since 1913 (1$ then is worth 25$ today). The federal reserve was conceived in a meeting on Jeykl Island, privately owned at the time in 1910. The people at this meeting included Senator Neslon W Aldrich (Leader of Republican Party), Adam P Andrew(assistant secretary of the U.S treasury dept), Frank Arthur Vanderklip(Pres of National Bank of New York), Henry PDavidson(Banker), Benjamin Strong(Banker), Paul Wahlberg (Another Banker) this meeting was kept secret until after the act passed in 1913. There is a gap between 1910 and 13 in 1912 the titanic sunk along with it Jacob Aster(millionaire made his wealth through real estate, fur trade, Lt Col in the Spanish-American war, and also was friends with Nikola Tesla), Benjamin Guggenheim(Son of a wealthy minor), Isidor Straud(owner of Macy's depth store) These three men have two things in common, they were not bankers, and they opposed the federal reserve.

@@StoicVeR honey is sugar at its core is made up of the same components of other sugars like white sugar / brown sugar, and sugar-free "honey" is not honey but man-made ingredients to make the texture and taste similar while using the same chemicals as sugar free sweeteners to make it sweet. That being said the ratio of glucose to fructose is higher in honey than other sugar, thus honey doesnt raise blood-sugar levels as much as the same quantity of other sugars. However honey has more calories than straight sugar so its a trade off. Im not quite sure about the inflammation and bacteria content, that seems more likely up to the individuals body, also I hope my stomach is acidic, because if it isnt thats a problem. I want to add insight. I am on WIC (women, infants and children) food subsidies and the food options are insanely limited. It covers cereal and juice with sugar but no sugar free options and I've always assumed they were in bed with big sugar and big corn. They provide 1 dozen eggs for the month but so much cereal, we can't eat it all. Major contribution to diabetes among the poor.

West Virginia has what's known as the EBT snap program. You can apply for an allotment of cash that can be exclusively used on food and drink items with a few generic rules *You meet or are below a certain economic threshold *You also have kids below 18 years of age *Idk if child support and other subsidies are accounted for Basically you get a credit card restricted to food and drinks that aren't alcoholic, served at restaurants, or are considered luxury items. Unfortunately we're in the second poorest state in the US, so we get the unhealthy stuff in bulk.

The biggest misconception everyone seems to be missing is modern wheat/corn is not even close to healthy. Weve genetically modified both over the past 100 years so they yield large quantities and so they are very disease resistant crops. Yes they have some fibre but, as far as nutrients go, there's nothing there but carbs.

Don’t blame the people, blame the system. Cereal companies produce a lot of propaganda, and nutritional education is seriously lacking. The focus should be on programs which make clear what healthy food actually is, and on policy like this which limits the spread of disinformation. If people don’t change their minds when faced with the facts, that is actually on them, but many people were raised being told over and over again that cereal is healthy, and they simply haven’t questioned it. Most people are not that stupid, they have just been intentionally misinformed by corporations.

@@darkest_eclipse8271 Sadly very true. It's just cereals in this case but when it comes to the food industry as a whole, all the big ones are like that historically. A good example is the "food pyramid" chart we've all seen in school, each industry fought to have their produce portrayed in a healthier light regardless of facts rendering the whole thing pretty vague and unhelpful despite it being thought as a basis of healthy eating.
