I haven't worked out what PVA is any good for. It certainly isn't plastering in my experience. I've given old plaster 4 or 5 coats before now and it's still sucked like a basket full of kittens. I've taken to 'bond it Plasterers Pregrit' (you recommended it a few videos back) and it works wonderfully across everything I've encountered 👍👍

I've used this and have some left over due to having issues with it emulsifying when getting the plaster on and it becoems really heavy and wet overall. I have used it with SBR in since which prevents the background from absorbing any moisture and provides a mechanical key at the same time.

No way…interesting. Never had that but I’ll bear that in mind. Thanks for the heads up mate 👍

@@PlasteringForBeginners yeah on old battered boards where the paper was ripped. The grit didn't seal the board and activated again with the water in the plaster and the moisture got to the background and caused blistering - had it on a ceiling and 2 walls early on using it. I mix it up with SBR now if I want a mechanical key so I get the be best of both. Also, if you find that you miss a bit with the grit, be careful when applying a second coat as it activates the first coat and gets very very wet. I ended up having to scraped back the entire room as the labourer did a sh*t job with gritting the walls.

Would you use this over brick? I thought you wanted the suction so the plaster bonds well to brick. I’m a newbie just here to learn. Thanks

Hardwall or bonding if youre not worried about moisture and lime based renders if you need vapour permeability

Hey Blaine, hope you're well mate. I'm thinking you'd still need multiple coats of bond it on old bare sand and cement (eg. A bathroom strip out where tiles have taken finishing plaster with them). What do you think?
@PlasteringForBeginners8 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely mate. Always fill the area flat if you can…still needs a coat of PVA/ Primer beforehand though so you’d still need to prep it 👍
@simonhughes16418 ай бұрын
How does this stuff compare to Bostik Cementone Plasterer's Stabilising Primer? It’s almost twice as expensive and just wondered if that was the elite primer? Thank you
@polory10008 ай бұрын
Totally agree blue grit neat is horrendous stuff I only use it in combo with pva 50/50 blue grit to pva then a bit of water , that pre grit is nicer to use and cheaper which is a plus , with that many backgrounds to go on Id tend to use a coat of sbr then a coat of pre grit personally .

Hi mate any idea where I can get that knauf stuff to skim a wall or any other recommendations what to use? Thank you
@greenup99138 ай бұрын
Knauf used to be the best for new board work as you could get very big areas on, but unskilled people would really struggle using this, infact many decent plasterers could not get the hang of it. its no good at all for reskims, just use multi finish for all general work

I don't recommend using plaster board on ceilings, it starts to pull off the ceiling after time. It seems like an easy fix but you will pay for it later down the line. @PlasteringForBeginners btw what do you for an artex ceiling that has lime wash paint?
@pcno28327 ай бұрын
What would you use in place of plasterboard? Every house in which I've ever lived had plasterboard of some kind on the ceilings, and none of it came down. I know it happens when the builders use too few fasteners, or fasteners that aren't deep enough, especially when there's a foot of insulation piled up on it, but there are more wrong ways than right ways to do everything.

Hi mate I think its worth a mention when skimming board. If the board is old and has been hung for a while it usually does need a coat of SBR or pva. I know plenty of people been caught on this. 😊

Skimming hard wall the same day is not why British gypsum recommends is it. Leads too blistering
