The Virginia House of Delegates on party lines passed a contentious AR-15 ban on Friday, with Fairfax County Democratic & veteran Dan Helmer leading the charge.
The bill, if enacted, would cease the sale and transfer of AR-15s manufactured after July 1, 2024, and also impose restrictions on magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Helmer defended the measure, emphasizing its potential to prevent the sale of weapons what he called "similar" to those used by veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In reality, his "Similar" is not even close to the same.
While the proposed legislation would not impact AR-15s manufactured before July 1, it would impose a blanket ban on individuals under the age of 21 from owning, selling, or transferring AR-15s, regardless of manufacture date.
Republican Del. Nick Freitas expressed concern that the passing of this bill could lead to even more stringent restrictions in the future. "Ultimately, I don’t agree that this is going to save lives, and I also don’t agree that this is where it’s going to stop," he cautioned.
The fate of the bill now rests in the hands of the Virginia Senate.
If approved by both chambers, the bill will then be presented to Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who highlighted Virginia's existing gun laws as among the most stringent in the nation in a recent address.

There are Veterans out there who *DO NOT* care about your right to defend yourself. Mr. Helmer is one of those Veterans, who do not and will not, care about your rights. He does not and will not care about his Oath to protect and defend the Constitution! The Oath Mr. Helmer took means nothing to him, and neither do you when he’s ok to have the best firearms to defend himself in the Middle East, but is also ok with you not having the best firearms to defend yourself and your family.

As an old Marine and Soldier before that, as well as being a former police officer. I agree. Any veteran that promotes, helps, or calls for any kind of weapons bans should be tried for Treason and Sedition, as well as should any law enforcement officer, politician, or any government officialsor bureaucrats that have taken the oath. I have taken the same Oath with only addition being the state, county, and or federal, city laws and ordinance to up hold. In taking that Oath to the Constitution now where did it mention an expiration date, time frame, or quiting the job, discharge from service, and so on. Only reason for anyone in the government to want ay gun control is in order for them to have complete control like they tried during covid and so many times before that. Remember WACO, Remember Ruby Ridge, the Bundy Ranch, and so many more times throughout history going back to the Revolution and world history. We can always ask Seth Rich, and over 100 more along with those Americans being held as political prisoners in Federal jail in D.C.

I live in france. A friend of mine enlisted a few years ago, he was doing sport shooting competitions in the civilian, and so, a gun owner. He did some tours in Mali, Ivory coast... And then one day, he receives a letter telling him he had to surrender his weapons. He had to present himself and explain about a situation he had prior his enlistment in order to keep his stuff. To make it short, he had a police control gone really bad, but the case was dismissed in court, and he never had it on his criminal record... See how it is stupid and reflects dictature ? Everybody is ok to have this man sent overseas with guns risking his life, but it was a great danger for society if he owns weapons in the civilian ! And why ? Because he defended himself against corrupted cops. So yes my fellow american, keep in mind gun control is not about guns. It is about control. When you leave every mean of defense, criminals and government can make what they want of you. So please keep and defend your 2a. Din't make the same mistake we did. Is it just like Clay pigeon/bird hunting shotguns? Like single shot/double barrel (either "side by side" or an "over and under" double barrel) "sporting shotguns," are you guys able to buy like, say, a pump-action shotgun (like a Remington 870/Mossberg 500 or 590/etcetera), or, perhaps, semi-automatics of some kind? Based off how anti-gun most of Europe is ill assume scary "assault shotguns" like magazine-fed Saiga/Vepr 12's or even tube-fed Benelli M4's are off limits and/or very difficult to get approval to acquire but are self-loading hunting shotguns like Browning A5's able to be bought? What about handguns and rifles and such? Sorry for all the questions I just like learning about other countries gun laws.

Firearms are classified in 4 categories A,B,C,D. A are forbidden weapons like full autos, 20mm, high cap mag (over 21 rounds for handguns, over 31 for rifles) belt fed. B for defense weapons including handguns, military style rifles such as ar 15, hunting rifles over 10 round for manually operated or over 3 rounds for semi auto (and yes, semi auto 22 are in there). The C cat is fir hunting rifles. D for collectibles, blades, pepper sprays, black powder. First you need to.get a sporting license, and there is 3 different, hunting, sport shooting and ball trap (skeet). Hunting and ball teap license only allows for C cat. For B cat you need sport shooting license and authorization from the préfet (local representative of the gvt). This authorization last for 5 years and is a pain in the ass to.obtain. you have to prive you own a gun safe, that you practice regularly, clean criminal record etc... And you can apply for this only after 6 months the first time you get your license. Cat C are ok right away with your license, no authorization but need to be declared and registered. D cat doesn't require anythi'g but being over 18 year old. And you are only allowed to have 1000 rounds in your home per weapon. Cat B alllows for 2000 rounds per year per weapon. Reloading is ok if you only have 1000 live rounds per weapon. What is really funny, is that silencers are free of any registration but pellet guns over certain power need registration. You can only own 10 mags per weapon. Telescopic stocks are fine but folding stocks are ok only if you can't fire the gun with the stock folded. There is other shenanigans about shotguns (rifled barrel, capacity, length). Our laws are stupid. And gvt can take away your stuff for reasins like overspeeding, political opinions on social media... So keep up the fight, you have the chance to have 2a to protect your rights, we don't.

Some interesting opinions here. I’m a former Combat Infantryman with multiple deployments. What he said is true. Just because you’re a veteran doesn’t mean jack shit. I routinely encounter veterans that have no qualms whatsoever about stripping you of your Rights. If they had been given the order to turn on Americans they would have done so with a smile on their face. The rest try to use their service to get discounts and free stuff. During his trial for treason, I would ask the veteran if he took the oath to protect, defend and uphold the constitution. When he answered, "Yes", I would then ask him when that oath expired. I am a veteran and it really grinds my gears when there are other vets that think because they were military and had their training, they can say that citizens should not possess these items. What gives them the platform to be that arrogantly obtuse? The best riflemen in service had their training in firearms from their family prior to service.
