Well, that was a rough one. Game 7 Oilers vs Canucks. The first game 7 in Rogers Arena since 2011. For the Canucks who were already missing Demko, it was announced yesterday that Brock Boeser was now out after suffering from blood clots. So it was always going to be a tough game, but this was brutal. While Silovs absolutely showed up, making some incredible stops this game, no one else on the Canucks seemingly did. Even as a neutral fan, this game was flat out hard to watch... at least for the first 50 minutes. The Canucks looked completely lost out there and yet, they made it interesting right at the end in what was a heart racing finish to give fans hope. But sometimes it’s the hope that kills you. I cover the entire game in todays NHL hockey recap!

Honestly if you're a Canucks fan you can't be too upset. This team had no genuine expectations this year. Last year was a chaotic shitshow. And this year they somehow rebounded. I’d be a little disappointed in them in the fact they barely try to block shots. They were 5th worst in the league this year, and didn’t step up much these playoffs in that regard. They were in the bottom half of the league for high danger shots against (they give up more high danger chances than a team that won a division should. Or a team that wants to compete). They’re in the middle of the league for rebound shots against as well, they’re not as good as they should be at clearing traffic in front of their own net, despite being great at getting rebounds against the opposing team. They were the 7th worst team in missing the net when the shot wasn’t blocked. Don’t get me completely wrong, they have a lot of good things they’re doing. But the way the team is and the way their leadership is I don’t think they’ll ever be a contender until they have guys that are more willing to put their body on the line a little more. I’m not Oilers fan but even Draisaitl blocks shots, he’s played through a lot of pain over the years in the playoffs. The Canucks need a guy like Tanev back, or like an O’Reilly, something. I also believe you’re right that the team lived up to their potential, and I don’t mean that in a good way, I think this is their ceiling unless they change things.

lesson that edmonton learned previous years, regular season is great, but don't bank success on it. Vancouver did play strong but the canucks can't have their top two players off the score sheets almost the whole playoff run. whether you had beat us or not, can't win cups like that. Edmonton has alot of its own issues, but if you look we have the top 4 or 5 point earners in the playoffs are Oilers including Draisaitl and McDavid. Im not sure we can beat the stars i didn't feel very sure for the canucks or oilers but we will see, as a hockey fan i would say for you guys, you do have a really good team, it needs to be tweaked and they learned alot by being in the playoffs and who knows we might be meeting again next year and you guys might be the winners.

Great Summary, its crazy how teams have been totally Binary in the Play-offs, either they are on or they are off. There has been some OT games, but usually associated with a Goalie stonewalling the other team, not a great offensive game from both teams. The fact the Oilers found some Defence with all those blocked shots was definitely key to this win, but they are about to find the same type of smothering Defence in Dallas. Dallas held Mackinnon the #2 points leader in the NHL off the score sheet 3 times in their series! It will be interesting!

Now add in 2way guys in Miller and Lindholm attached to McDavid's hip and it's even less space for him and that's what I was worried about. I was confident ONLY if the Oilers played with purpose and dictated pace the entire series and they didn't really show a lot of that in games 1-5, but brought it in 6-7. Great strategy on the Canucks' end. Game 6 broke loose, so start Game 7 conservatively and tame it to your own pace and frustrate the Oilers. Look for a break, and you're absolutely right the double minor in the first was a game plan perfectly materialized, except the capitalization. The two early goals in the second by the Oilers were potentially the result of the Canucks second-doubting themselves and lost a bit of focus. Had they not given up the 2:0 goal before the first half of the second period, the rest of the game would've been extremely different as frustration would've begun to set in on the Oilers. Oh and who would've thought McLeod was the drama queen, called for doubled-minor in the first then gave up the puck in the final ten minutes to make it interesting--no hating on him, I love McLeod and he's shown significant improvement season-to-season in the last few years, a good lesson while not too costly is a positive thing in his career--it's the Oilers, gotta play every second and you never know what you're going to get.

The give away.. he was jammed with some peoppe but he shouldnt have tossed it. He will learn from that. He had an amazing forecheck and PK, even better than game 6. I think the PK and grrat firecheck of the likes of nuge, mcleod, foegele, ryan and janmark made the difference this game 😊

If you´re Vancouver walking into next year, you´ve got to feel pretty good about the Demko/Silovs goalie tandem. Watching the post game interviews, the vibe I got was that this was only the beginning for Vancouver and they know it. This team is young. They now have a little experience. This is going to be a fun rise for this team. If a team is going to bring the Cup back to Canada. They are going to be the ones to do it.

Oilers-Stars was a great playoff rivalry in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After the Todd Marchant/Cujo series in 1997 the Stars became Edmonton's nemesis, beating them five times from 1998 to 2003. That was before the salary cap and it always seemed Dallas just had a little too much elite talent for the Oil then.

Pettersson did his best Mitch Marner impression in the playoffs. The only Canucks who showed up this playoffs was Miller, Silovs, Joshua, Garland, Zadorov and Boeser. Hughes got outplayed by Bouchard. Miller didn’t show up for Game 7 and he showed no hussle all game. Lindholm doing what he does best and that’s nothing. If the Canucks only got Guentzel instead of Lindholm, they would have advanced

ruthervin didn't pull the trigger on guentzel and it's probably because they knew this team is 3 or 4 roster moves away from being a threat to win the cup. great start for a 9 year absence from the playoffs. the buzz is the phone will be ringing from around the league for silovs and they may move him. mistake in my opinion, demko seems to get injured a lot with how he plays his position. looking forward to this summer and what's in store for the team.

Outworked and outcoached is not a good combo. too many passengers and too many injuries. While Im sure injuries affected the play of some Canucks, most of the team did not play well. Boeser,Miller,Garland,Lindholm and Suter among their forwards had good playoffs. DGP and Aman were good in limited roles, but Petey, Hogs, Mik, Lafferty,and Joshua sucked. How many stupid penalties did Joshua take? seemed like 1 a game. Hughes wasnt himself. Myers and Zadorov -which shouldve been our bottom pairing- were our best dmen. Silovs was fantastic (although i think they win with Demko). Sorry Desmith- as well as you played with the Canucks...Im thinking Silovs is the back up next year.

Can't just show up in the last half of the 3rd period in a Game 7. 4 shots at the end of the first period. No shots on net during the 4min PowerPlay. They did the same thing in Game 6 and should've adjusted. At the same time, you gotta give them credit for the season and coming this far. Shilovs has got the scratch and sniff interest from scouts, GM's, fans and will be back next year.

A bit unfair to claim the Canucks didn’t show up. It seems really easy to find fault and assign blame, but not really fair. Maybe it was more a matter of the Oilers playing really well. In the third period the Oilers spent their time trying to protect a lead instead of continuing with what gave them the lead. This happens every playoff year and often results in a loss when the game should have been out of reach. Unsurprisingly with a Tocchet coached team, the Canucks never quit. A remarkable turn around season to build on for next year.
@hectic105
@hectic105 Ай бұрын
I think another thing that contributed to the Canucks play in the first 3/4 of the game is the carry over of momentum from the game before. They COMPLETELY gave up in game 6. They didn’t even pull the goalie from what I recall. No late game pushes or attempts at a goal just to get SOMETHING to carry into the next game. They just stopped playing and the coach stopped coaching. That’s a huge mistake in the playoffs I think. Momentum can mean SO much, so to just roll over like that, it could continue into the next game and it did. Not the only reason for it, but a contributing factor for sure I think.
