This episode shows Homelander's sense of emotions maturing. Not the emotions themselves, but understanding emotion. He understood killing her wouldn't scare her or anything like that, but locking her up and sealing her in that room with all that around her, that's WAY more damaging to her to be stuck like that.

Not only that but the way he made the scientists feel what he felt during his childhood was his way of severing his ties to the past completely and regaining freedom in its purest form in a way that made most sense to himself. I wouldnt be surprised if Homelander is now far more composed and doesnt crack under pressure like he used to.
@RedShirtGuy963 ай бұрын
Homelander likely has psychological blocks preventing him from harming her, since she seems like she was his "handler" in a way. She can take an authoritative tone with him that he won't immediately retaliate to. He likely made all the staff march into the Bad Room. Ripped them all apart in front of Barbara, then sealed her in. like they did to him with random animals when testing him

I dated a New Zealand woman fo a while and her older brother worked on the set on a New Zealand tv series called outrageous fortune. He said Antony starr was so nice to him and all people who worked on the production. He said Antony noticed he was depressed and went out of his way to cheer him up and help him out. It’s amazing to see how far his career has come. Interesting how this huge American show has two kiwis leading the way, a country of just 5 million people. If you watch him in interviews and promotion videos on KZbin with his cast mates you can hardly recognize him, it’s like a totally different person, he’s so cute with his glasses and scarfs. Those clips of him with chase Crawford ( the deep) are jarring because he looks scrawny next to the deeps actor and it’s funny how he’s the more silly sweet goofy one and Chance is the more serious and intimidating one.

Homelander's suit is also a muscle suit. It's heavily padded to make Homelander appear more intimidating. His lanky nudity when Ashley ran in his room to talk to him shows that. It's also been mentioned that the muscle suit has a water cooling system because it causes him to overheat when wearing it.

A character like homelander is just a gold mine for any good actor. Antony starr has the luxury that few good actors have and that’s to play a character like this on a project like this that really gives you the opportunity to really ACT. Not to take anything away from Antony starr, he’s a fantastic actor (my ex girlfriend’s brother says he was so nice to him and everyone on the set of a New Zealand th show ) but there are a lot of actors that could have played this role just as well. If another actor was cast a bunch of people would be saying what they are saying about starr, that they couldn’t imagine any other actor being as good etc.

Yep, it was clear by her insult while watching it go down on tv that this is what she meant to happen to firecracker all along. She seemed to show distaste for firecracker at their first encounter too. I didn't think about it then, but it was a bit of a reveal of what she truly thought of firecracker.
@GeneralGrievousCIS3 ай бұрын
Tbf I don't think Firecracker was interested in fighting back after that first punch caught her off guard. Kimiko is a more skillful fighter than Starlight and Firecracker matched her for a couple minutes 1v1. She probably could've tried to fight back (she got up multiple times) but just... didn't. If there is one thing Firecracker understands, it's audience perception. If Starlight beats her senseless and she doesn't resist, it just makes Starlight look like an unhinged, aggressive, bully upset at being exposed. Firecracker explained the previous episode what she wanted... and it was for the world to see Starlight as mean. She had Starlight on camera, live, painting that picture for her (at the very least with her right wing base). I don't think she expected her to explode YET in that moment, but I do very much think Firecracker was intentionally trying to set her off. Hence her poking at every sore spot she could think of both on stage and in the days before.

For three seasons, the Boys whole reason for pursuing Supes has been based on the casual destruction that Supes leave in their wake. I think Barbara is likely to play a part in the future, she seems almost as if she's Homelander "handler" in a way. One of probably many mother figures Vaught engineered to be able to control him to a limited degree. One of the few people who can take an authoritative tone with him that he will at the very least acknowledge. Homelander likely called it the "Bad Room" because he decided it was going to be the room he put all he people who were "Bad" to him. Notice there were no scorch marks on the walls. Homelander made them all get in the room. He then ripped them apart by hand in front of Barbara. Then he sealed her inside with the remains. Like they did to him after tossing inside a random animal or beast for him to dismember. If she survives long enough to be found she could show up in Gen V as a major player since she basically is an expert in raising child superheroes

Ngl after seeing this scene, I can honestly say wholeheartly that Homelander actually earned one of the top 10 spots of greatest villians in the history of television. I told the community that even by The Boys standards, this season will be the darkest one yet and this episode exceeded the expectations by an landslide. Mans had to literally channel his inner crazy Joker to get one of the most twisted, psychotic laughs I ever heard in television. Definitely on par with Ledger's, Phoenix's and Monaghan's own style. Best episode of the Boys yet. The only time I felt chills and such utter tension with this type of crazy in Tv was when Joker told Batman the real plan of Harvey Dent back in TDK and when Walter did an hit and run on two childkillers then shot one of them in the head with no hesitation. Honestly, The Emmys are really moving the goalpost if they don't give Antony Starr the acknowledgement he deserves for playing Homelander. I for one, from Day 1 hated Homelander and I still stand on that along with the rest of the supes and I hope in the end, Butcher goes full Eren Yeager on them but even with that and with all the shit he's done, I still couldn't help but empathize with him regarding how Vought treated him. Vought is the real enemy of The Boys including the man who stood his ground to an psychopath with powers and lived, Stan Edgar. No wonder he become the man we all know him as becuase they made an monster. Even when he said that not one of the scientists stood up to Vought and said that this is wrong, I think in a sense, even with what they did, he was self-consicous with that though of wanting love and compassion and instead of showing that side of what being human means to a kid no less, instead Vought exploited that weakness to control him to be obedient and him realizing that makes me more of a threat. In other words, let the ultimate crashout event begin..... After this ep, Homelander is forever GOATED as one of the best villains of all time. And I hope I see more of Antony in other works of media as well cuz he is a master of acting.

I think Butcher has an organism living inside him. First the Temp V gave him a brain tumor, then Regular V turned that tumor into a supe tumor being that has a basic level of self-preservation. okay hear me out- i think the whole situation w hughies dad is a plot. (i haven’t watched the reaction yet but i just been wanting to mention this for a while haha). Starting like right off the bat w hughies dad having a “heart attack” or whatever just seemed weird to me. after the voicmail, i really began to think that the dad was caught off guard while watching his movies and was subdued by vought somehow. the “mom” has been giving me such weird vibes too. she’s literally out of nowhere and suddenly she has rights to everything and she and hughies dad have been “reconnecting”?? unbeknownst to hughie?? ( they indicated they haven’t be talking much but that still seems unlikely to me) i genuinely think that hughies “mom” is either: a) actually his mom and is a deep mole for vought (likely due to some blackmail/threat) who was planted to distract hughie from his mission and/or get some sort of information from him about compound v (perhaps by creating a scenario where he would feel pushed to acquire compound v 🤔) or b) a shapeshifting supe who was given a detailed script on what to say to hughie to convince him they’re his mother on the same mission as scenario a. in this scenario though, hughies real mom is either dead or so disinterested in reconnecting that vought isn’t worried about her interfering. i think is also likely bc the “mom” always looks so awkward and cold imo. just a little off. but parenting styles vary ig 🤷🏾♀️🤔 it’s strange she recognized compound v and seized the opportunity to put it into the dads medicine bag thing to “save his life” but up until hughie left the room she was extremely resigned to the fact that the dad was gonna die.. these are my most tinfoil hat theories so far haha. again i haven’t watched the review so i wonder the s&p think anything similar🫣

This is what I don't like about modern viewing culture. People at episode 4 saying "I don't know where the series is going" Of course you don't. That is what has happened with most of these defined episode number of series. By episode 4 or 5 you don't know where things are going then the plot takes a turn or get stakes. I personally thing everyone has their own head cannon or fan fiction and are upset that shows are not going the direction they want. I dislike seeing everything at once but I am into stories. Go read a book. Don't start at the last page take it in a chapter at a time.

The Boys were already killing supes and trying to take down Vought BEFORE they met Huey. The heat turned up and problems really started when The Boys kidnapped Translucent and Huey killed him. The Frenchie and Colin storyline was pointless. Colin was going to find out Frenchie killed his family and then what was Colin going to do to Frenchie? Kill him? No. I find it odd that people feel sorry for Frenchie. I don’t. He chose to kill Colin’s family and he chose to have s3x with Colin knowing who he was. I get it. I don't mind it as much in episodes like this where the gross stuff is a part of the storyline and happens for a reason. It bothered me in the last two episodes where they just open a door and see some disgusting stuff that's there for no reason at all, other than blatantly trying to shock the audience.

I dont know if you noticed, in the Scene where Homelander leaves Barbara in the "Bad room" he lasrered off the door handle on the inside. She is going to die in there surrounded by her dead peers

oh shit we did not notice that. that is terrifying

Someone will definitely come rescue her, I’m sure one of them alerted Vought that HL was there. But if not: yikes 😬

@@Wraiven22 I dont think so. its an extremely under the wraps project. SO far underground there is no cell signal. We then see Homelander with them and they have 0 time to call for help, he would know.

I really don't think Homelander is expecting her to stuck there forever. He just wanted her to spend an extended period in the Bad Room with her dead colleagues.

This episode is insane، Antony Starr is GOATED!

Antony Starr has a small role in the movie "The Covenant" from Guy Ritchie. Honestly.. It's STRAIGHT up Spartans alley. FANTASTIC movie. Throw it on the list.

Butcher still talks like he's about to die. I think his powers are more like Venom, where that worn thing in his body got the v instead of him but is making him sick. Protecting the host when necessary but still slowly killing him

Anthony Starr is creating one of the greatest villains in history joining the other acting legends in the small circle of excellent villain portrayals. What a performance. As horrified, appalled, terrified as I am of Homelander… my god is he interesting to watch. So unpredictable & unhinged. Nothing is off limits. The way Antony plays him is just top tier. Give him all the awards 👏

Do you not know what a lobotomy is and what that means to her character? Its literally a needed scene
@alexthrailkill3 ай бұрын
I totally agree with the intro discussion. Looking forward to editing after this episode… :) This felt much more in line with the show we know. I actually could not watch the lobotomy scene, needles/eyes/icepick lobotomies are subjects I cannot stomach AT ALL. First scene in the whole show where I was watching subtitles while trying to ignore the audio… I have to admit, I don’t care if Hughie’s dad is a supe within the context of the story. However, I also have to admit I am on the edge of my seat for Super Pegg😂

People misunderstand homelander. Homelander is NOT a psychopath, he is a sociopath, sculpted by the negativity of the environment around him.
@bobdonda3 ай бұрын
Not sure if I love that direction for the character tbh. I think he's a better villain if he just thinks he's the only one that matters in the world because of his strength. But now he's like that because he was tortured and abused, and someone else made him become this way. Also doesn't quite align with things like Stan Edgar calling him "bad product" and criticizing him. Edgar would know Homelander's past and that Vought made him become like this.
@MMAisTHEbestSPORT083 ай бұрын
@bobdonda Stan is a bad person, arguably worse than homelander if you think about it, do you seriously think Stan cares about homelanders traumatic past? He's probably the one that called voghelbaum up to start experimenting on homelander. Stan is more of a psychopath than homelander, as such, he shares no sympathy or empathy for homelander and his upbringing

4:12 I heard about it too, but I didn't mention it on any of the reaction channels I follow because IMO, it could still potentially be a spoiler. I think a fan theory can be a spoiler, even if it has yet to be confirmed. For eg, IMO, the biggest theory in _ASOIAF_ / _Game of Thrones_ was unquestionably a spoiler, even before it was confirmed. I've seen some reaction channels who had heard about it and wish they hadn't. I also think that it is unfair to mention popular theories to TV and film audiences when they are based on the source material and not the adaptation. But of course, book and comic fans will always want to spoil. And so will professional and amateur media critics because it gets them views.
