I think most of us Rangers fans are tired of watching Trouba risk the whole season to lay an elbow on someone. Doesn’t matter who you’re a fan of. The elbows need to stop and he’s a major offender in that category. Watching that game I was just mad at him. Naw the NHL called it right. Really, I'm surprised about all this hype around the issue. Dudes contact started at the shoulder, and Rod went on playing after a short break on the bench. Two things can be true at the same time: The Trouba elbow was dirty and intentional, and it is far from the first time he's done this. Rodriguez after being elbowed (and the panthers in general) are massive floppers, in this case the elbow didn't catch him in the head, and he acted to sell the hit. Im a fan of neither team, so I have no stake in this game.
@justinfalzon68544 ай бұрын

Exactly right. Not to the head, which doesn't mean it wasn't dirty and a penalty. Nasty elbow hit followed by embellishment, but not to the head and not a major.

How can there be no criticism for Florida when they haven’t even scored more 5v5 goals than the Rangers. It would be the talking point if the Rangers did that… acting like they’ve been perfect and dominate every period. Like gtf over it, we’ve seen what refs allow now dont be so dumbfounded. Eck I love you, and I get you are trying not to be biased, but the Trouba hit was called right. They set the standard with the kulikov hit last game, and if you watch the hit, Trouba hit him with his elbow on the shoulder, not the head. Now, that is still an elbow, and honestly I could totally see the argument that he intended on hitting him in the head and hurt him, but intent and action are two entirely different things. You cant call a major penalty (or any penalty for that matter) because the player intended to do something but ended up not doing it for one reason or another. On top of that Rodreguiz was selling HARD. He acted as if he died just to come back to the game to start the next period. I truly due think the refs got it right here, and I also do believe Trouba needs to get his game in check, cause more shit like this and eventually it will be a major penalty, and possibly a suspension on top of that
@nbranski434 ай бұрын
I agree with your precedent argument, but I take issue with your (and likely the NHL's) reasoning. The idea that you "can't call a major penalty because the player intended to do something [dirty] but ended up not doing it for one reason or another." is a horrific take. We saw a clip of the attempted hit on Necas that likely would have ended his career if it had connected... it is beyond the pale of disgusting the NHL seemed OK with it and let it go just because all is well that ends well. Are we really waiting for Trouba to connect on one of these and potentially end someones life as they know before we take action?
@jacksonshafiroff61164 ай бұрын
@@nbranski43 it’s how it is tho. You can’t look into the mind of a player. You will never truly know what they are thinking. If that were the case there would be no integrity to calling penalties. The refs could just call a penalty because they believed that they might of done something bad. I agree that Troubas antics are starting to get out of control, but it doesn’t matter. And unfortunately that does mean the league can’t do anything about it until he actual lands the hit. I agree that it’s not safe but sadly it’s just the way it is, and there is really nothing anyone can do about it without damaging the integrity of officiating in this sport, because changing to “intent” creates a lot more problems than it does solving them.

Trouba, whether you like it or hate it, leads with his forearm when he throws clean hits. He basically reaches out to his opponent, and puts his forearm on them, and then proceeds to run through his forearm and them with his body. When players literally dive out of the way in non-hockey ways, like in Carolina, or are able to make a last minute cut and weave, like in the last game, that lead forearm he is just trying to get on you, so he can follow through, ends up, sometimes, being elbow-ish contact to head-ish area. This last one doesn't even make contact with the head, and he elbow/forearm shivers him in the back of the shoulder, which maybe hurt or maybe the player was hoping for an Emmy. Literally nothing "dirty" about it, but if I guess if you don't understand anything about physics, or anatomy, or geometry even, your simple brain screams "elbow! head height! i'm so shook that is just happened! oh no!".

As a Panthers fan, the hit from Trouba doesn't strike me as a 'dirty' hit. Just looks like a player who gets caught out of position and is trying his best to prevent an easy goal. Shoulda been a major with his elbow extended that far from the body, but it just looks like he's trying to recover, not that he is aiming to injure another player. Regardless of that, you can't be letting up short handed goals and expect to win when Shesterkin is in the other net
@jmarks2k14 ай бұрын
Trouba's problem isn't that he's a dirty player, it's that he's slow. He lines up checks, ends up being is a step (or two) late/behind and is forced to make a decision.... either completely whiff with his shoulder, or extend his chicken wing to try and at least get a piece of the opposing player. So I don't think it's fair to call it "premeditated". All that said, most Rangers fans wouldn't mind Trouba getting suspended for a few games.

The four minutes was NOT from a double-minor elbowing call, but rather two separate penalties. In fighting sports, MMA, boxing, etc, it's a pretty known effect that a shot on the chin will generally stun someone. You can say Trouba initiated contact with Rodrugies' shoulder, but that elbow went straight up to his neck and chin.

Yea, two wrongs don't make a right , so Trouba's hit was illegal. I would prefer my team, the Rangers, to stay within the rules, but the play in general in the NHL has degraded so much. I don't think Trouba plays dirty like Tkachuk , or Bennett.

Florida made it pretty clear they were going to throw those kinds of checks when one of them almost took a Rangers head in game 2 and only got 2 minutes. Give them what they give.... I'm just glad this was one of the only times the refs made a call consistent to the way they called it in the previous game. 2 minutes for elbowing, fine. He sticks the elbow out but he doesn’t hit his head, he hits him in the shoulder. That’s why it was only 2 and fine. If he hits him square in the head, it should and would be 5 and a game plus a suspension. They reviewed it and got the call right. There was also a lot of embellishing by Rodrigues and he was out there on that same pp.

As a Rangers fan even though they keep winning so far, it just seems like there's no energy or fight most times. Both dirty hits, but not comparable in magnitude. Kulikov made a shoulder hit on a player who had just touched the puck. He was too late, but he would have been okay otherwise. Trouba stuck his elbow out, deliberately. This is never okay in any way shape or form, regardless of puck possession or intent. And he's a repeat offender, even if the league pretends he isn't.

Try jamming your fingers into the top of your shoulder between your neck and see how it feels...now imagine it's an elbow with a 200 lbs man behind it. Trouba is a dirty player, plain and simple. He gets away with more of these dirty hits than most players do and I'm not sure why. Rempe, who I don't like by any means, would never get away with that hit, even though he's not exactly a choir boy himself.

It was on his shoulder (the other angle clearly shows point of contact). Rodrigues would make a great soccer player. The uppercut from Bennett on Marchand from behind was a major (that wasn't called).

This was not a double minor, the reason there was 4 minutes of power play is because of another minor that was already being called on Trouba (pretty sure it was a holding or slash). The hit happened during a delayed call. I think if this wasn't a delayed call they would have definitely given a 5 min major, but I think they just didn't want to give a 7 min power play, atleast thats my guess.
@boltinabottle63074 ай бұрын
That is correct. He was called for separate incidents of slashing and elbowing. When a single player commits two minor penalties in one shift, they run consecutively (4:00). If it were two separate NY players, it would have been a 2:00 two-man advantage.

Yeah as a Rangers fan I found the Troubs hit unacceptable and players "safety" is a joke. He's such an effective player in many ways, he doesn't need to be dirty and risk other players health, should have been a major and game misconduct... Anyway despite the appalling numbers, like the Cats getting 66 more shot attempts than The Rangers it wasn't as much of a blowout with high danger chances you'd think and Fox is half injured, Miller is making atrocious decisions with the puck, Trouba is giving as many pucks aways as shots he blocking.....and hoping that Shesty will stop everything and relying on luck is just not sustainable.
