But if they are the same price and you can get gcam for oneplus wouldn’t you rather have the better specs? Plus oxygen OS is probably better than vanilla android. Personal opinion but I’d rather have the better specs going forward than less specs. While the pixel 5 is fine today just like the the pixel 3a was fine when it came out, will it be fine a year or two from now? The argument for mid range is the price, they are still charging almost flagship prices without a proper processor 🤷‍♂️

I see they haven't changed it that much but honestly, how much more realistic can a photo be? And a great night camera as well. You get to the point where you start asking yourself, do I really need my phone to be faster, or is reliability a better thing? I like the Pixel because it seems to be a less "cluttered" version of Android. When this one finally goes away I think I'll get another Pixel.

I think that the Pixel 4a 5G is being slept on. Many reviewers are reporting that it has better haptics AND dual speakers than the 5 (for $200 less). So I differ that the Pixel 5 is premium just for the feel in the hand. It lacks not only specs, but some aspects that might not be the best in the long term for an "enthusiast". Maybe for Austin it's not the case but he has a secondary device as an iPhone, that's why he's fine buying a $700 phone with many compromises. He uses 2. 😂
@GrahamTriggsUK
@GrahamTriggsUK 3 жыл бұрын
I agree there isn't much to choose between the 4A 5G. The 5 does have the advantage of being available a month earlier, as well as wireless charging and water resistance rating. But when both handsets are readily available, unless you specifically need the few extras in the 5, then the 4A 5G is the smart process. As for "enthusiast" - that may well be the case. But there are an awful lot of people out there who just want a good, affordable phone. Spam protection in the dialer, assistant waiting on hold, transcriptions, shortcut access to Pay, etc. - these are all useful features for the majority of the market, and it's good to see them available on phones positioned for that market, and not just the preserve of those willing to pay for the highest (and in many cases unnecessary) specs.

Tried all three returned the 12 pro and 12 pro max cause I barely saw a difference between the 12 and pro and the pro max was two big for my little hands and I'm a mom so it was hard to use while holding a baby. Then I went and bought the pixel 5. My first pixel/android and I absolutely love it I have been using it since I bought it three weeks ago and haven't picked up my iphone 12. I love that I can take my case off my pixel if I want to actually feel the phone cause it feels awesome in the hands and it's durable. I have a OP8 and my friend has a Pixel 5. We both think the photos often aren't noticeably different. Even night mode shots are close. Sometimes his pics come out a little better, sometimes mine do. We've even blind tested friends. It's all a matter of preference. OP does like to expose more and saturate pics because the average person tends to prefer brighter, more saturated pictures. Using the Gcam port fixes those processing issues. I use it a lot on my OP8. I would rather have a OP8 with fewer, better camera sensors and/or a lower price though.

I'm thinking about upgrading from my 2XL and as Austin said, the Pixel devices just offer some intangibles when it comes to the user experience that make me want one over any other Android phone. Whether it's the consistent software and security updates, Google's computational photography, call screening and waiting, or the clean Android UI etc. It makes using the Pixel an enjoyable experience. I really wish they'd bump down the price a bit for the Pixel 5. They should've included an 865G if they were gonna charge this price for it and to make it a more compelling option vs. The S20 FE. I don't know if I should upgrade this year or wait another year without security updates for the Pixel 6 (hoping they put in newer camera sensor and higher end processor). Hmmmm...

Cameras (except the $900+ 8 Pro), lack of IP rating, no wireless charging, increased prices while others are getting cheaper and super slow updates after the first year make OnePlus phones very hard to recommend anymore. Maybe if you can get the Nord in your region for super cheap that makes sense but the higher end phones just can't compete anymore. The S20 FE killed all higher end phones and the new Pixel line is taking care of the budget and stock Android crowd. Oneplus needs to match the S20FE in features or just make the Nord available everywhere for $400 and actually update the thing within 6 months after the newest Android version comes out.
