Also something that is understated here is just how much stuff that you (Daniel) share with us. I know its hard to do this as a business owner, everyone trying to use every little bit as leverage, but we as viewers 100% appreciate the candidness and authenticity, YT is full of fake people, and you keeping it actually real is one of the best things about Ashville.

As Jeremy Clarkson pointed out it costs him 18 pence for an import sausage and 80 pence for a uk sausage so the British farmers have a long way to go to even come close to the efficiency of the other countries who wants to pay 4 times as much for British foods its just unreasonable to even consider that in this day and age

Well done to all of you at Ashville keep going and don’t give up! You are a true inspiration to everyone who watches these programs. You’re doing your best to build a business employ people over all of these programs. You’ve shown one thing determination do not give up.😊😊😊 one last thing do not develop your own software, there are so many dangers in terms of cyber security! How much developers cost etc this is something that will cost you a lot more money in the long run believe me stick with industry software that’s developed…… just achieve a better overall cost package.
@haydngardner7218Ай бұрын
It's Sunday morning, and I'm watching KZbin Ashville episode 205 nice. Love the channel @ashville can't wait to see a train in the new yard getting offloaded, and well done on the aware well deserved for you and the team.
@humphshumphsАй бұрын
If you want to develop the software 'in-house' then you need to make sure that who ever writes the program does so in a standard language (not something that other programmers can't understand), and realise that even though you think it will be cheaper than what you already have it probably wont. Chances of it working first time are slim and whilst you are getting it written, you need to keep the current package going, and also run the two side-by-side to make sure it does everything you want it to. I remember working in a team that were developing the 'back office' for a plant nursery and whilst the basics were up and running after about 8 months, the project took about 3 years to get fully completed (and that was without the tweaks that the owner wanted doing once it was 'completed').
@SUDMrEurnieАй бұрын
I agree. As a developer, I'd rather pay the annual fee than pay a team of developers for ~12-24 months to fully develop the entire system in-house. I've been on a project for about 3 years now, and just like you said, basics are up and running after about 8-9 months, but the entire system is never really finished.
@JLK89Ай бұрын
As a software developer, I can tell you its never worth developing your own software unless there's nothing on the market that does wgat you want. You're not going to develop something for less than the renewal. Also know that software is never 'done'. It needs maintenance just like your machines. A better option is always to shop around for a cheaper alternative or opensource option.

Helpful comments Daniel. Your blue MDPE pipe will need insulating for the cold weather. The feed we put into the on site toilet blocks in Fulham, used to freeze above ground. The insulation should be as thick as you can get for that size of pipe. Failing that, a frost heater tape run along the underside of the pipe. It only turns on when it is below freezing. The dis board feeding the scaffolding / work area, put in a maintained emergency light above it, just in case there is an issue with breakers tripping. Your scaffolding structures all individually need a scaffolding tag and register. Your scaffolding company should be able to advise. We trained up some of your guys to do the inspections once a week to cut down on costs. Keep the cameras rolling and don't let the bar stewards grind you down.

Unless there is a specific function that you need that you can't get elsewhere, In house solutions are exactly what companies are moving away from. Just don't go down this route. it's either "Software as a Service" which is likely what you have now, or you purchase software and run it on a provided "Platform as a Service" With a contract, you have an SLA and hopefully also a road-map from the provider as to how the that product will change. Service reliability isn't your problem, nor is bugs and vulnerabilities. If you think Plant equipment is a money-pit, just wait.
