Where are our lost talents and disowned powers hiding?
GO DIRECTLY TO THE DREAM INTERPRETATION HERE: 01:04:14
PERSONAL SHADOW WORK: Where is your dark twin hiding? Helps us identify parts of ourselves pushed into the unconscious due to conflicts with our family of origin and misalignment with cultural and family norms. We first encounter shadow by projecting it on others. The despicable traits we cannot stand in others point to similar qualities we refuse to acknowledge in ourselves. Self-confrontation and honest introspection can help us say, “I am the one who hides this terrible flaw inside myself. I am the one who rejects my inner dark twin.” When we can approach reclaiming all parts of ourselves with good humor, patience, and courage, we discover a reservoir of intense energy, talents, and creativity.
Prepare to discover why we dream of figures who hunt and chase us, whether it is safe to face our inner darkness alone, how to identify our most vilified characteristics when it’s the right time to prioritize shadow work, what is pressuring us to accept our inner dark twin, and where this courageous process will lead us…and so much more.

It is very challenging to find a space for male aggression that resolves rather than destroys or results in judgement. Even lap swimming aggressively is often judged and looked down on. I worked in a pre school for a while and noticed very early on the boys were chastised for what I thought was harmless rough housing.

Bringing one shadow out into the light of day and using it to bash others is not the way to go. The shadow should be dealt with in-house; not brought to the public square to cause disruption. The psychology of Carl Jung dealt with the shadow and how to reconcile it. In addition to the shadow the lost love is also sought outside rather than being reconciled within. If we reconcile our shadow and find our lost love within ourselves we are totally evolved. God and Satan are reconciled as the Hymn has it. We are finally complete and at peace. The ‘peace that passeth all understanding.’ So, no, don’t bring your shadow to the public square, please, learn to reconcile it within yourself, that is evolution without harm to yourself or to others.

@@ALavin-en1krI wonder if there is a reason we listen to testimony of others? We all bring back little treasures from the dark… if we don’t share that treasure we lose it… it’s a gift we must give to keep… because often we may not notice what gold we are holding until we give it to someone else

Thank you so much for this! I always look forward to your videos and this is such a great subject! I remember as a university student studying history and politics first discovering Jung's work from reading Laurens van der Post's book "Jung and the Story of our time" about how if we don't acknowledge and integrate our collective shadow they can rise up and become harmful and I ever since that I now always observe societal and political situations in light of this knowledge... and it helps make more sense of things.

I love all of this its great and so funny and true. However, the part of kids being able to do shadow work I feel is important. And I don't mean deep dive shadow work but the strength to introspect is such a power. I have been doing shadow work for the last 3 years and me and my daughter do introspection work as to why she wants certain things or do certain things and it's just the same as meditation for me. You get to introspect and see why do I do things the way I do. I think if all kids could introspect and see things from other angles the world would be a better place

To a degree. I've been very introspective in my life, but that has led to isolating myself away from others, observing more than participating. I think there is a balance between being introspective and engaging with others as well as being present externally.

My family had a strong orientation towards seeing the good in everyone. Looking at the brightside. I'm processing shadow emotions and it's all darkness, fear, anger, disgust, tension, terror and caution. It's everything that's not bright. I wish I had been allowed to hold more not knowing and darkness as a child and young person. It's definitely a challenge to allow all of this material to have an energetic life now and let me tell you the energetic nature of these emotions are strong. Really strong. I feel like I'm participating in the emotional Olympics somedays. Thanks for this podcast. It's really helped me on my healing journey.

Shadow from the spiritual side of things is what my ancestors call aka cords, the reflection to the average westerner is an attachment in which they carry themselves. These cords can be seen in the astral realm by clairvoyant ones. The cords typically are connected to those you have some type of avairance with...inability to forgive, someone you hate, a person you love. Both good and bad cords keep us connected. ❤ so clean yourself virtuously!

I wonder how experiencing tragedy/death/funerals at an early age could impact both the ego development and the shadow. I wonder because I had multiple family members die (grandparents, uncles, cousins), starting at 4-5 years old, up until I was about 10. As I've gotten older, I've been curious about what sort of impact it had without my being conscious of it.

My first thought was..,how do you connect with other people? Do you connect with a partner on a really deep level? Or do you keep it more on a surface-level? Because if you only keep it on a surface-level and dont let other people really close to you...,I would say that is your way of trying to protecting yourself from grief and sad emotions...,but that you also expect that other people is going to leave you.. This could be ways that your childhood has had an impact on you and in your life.. What are your own thoughts on this topic?

I don't understand. I thought archetypes were those things that develop from the womb and early development that manifest in similar symbols worldwide. Yet Joseph says Shadow develops and consists of repressed items? Yet it is an archetype and/or a construct in the psyche. This seems contradictory to what I thought an archetype is, according to Jung.

So my understanding of a dream is like this: unconscious wanted to bury guilt with the cat symbol and stop wasting energy on repressing. Vulture supposed to end that by eating guilt and shame (a cat), by destroying the symbol ultimately. Unconscious asks her if she is ready to end that - when mother asks her what could have happened to the cat, she also gives clues that the cat is probably dead and eaten. Only way to do this is to admit that cat is dead and let go (orb). You can also make excuses by diverting attention to unimportant things and keep repressing the obvious. The cat may be a symbol of guilt and shame related to mother’s death in reality. Parent figures supposed to guide her through the whole process making her feel like they are ok with this. Don’t take it serious, though. I’m just being creative here.

I love this podcast so much! Dream og becoming also a Jungian analyst! I am training as a transpersonal therapist which has a big component of Jungian analysis, and for a couple of years doing my own personal shadow work! Recently starting to decode it! The only thing is that I am almost 50 years old and most of your examples (in other podcasts) for some reason are about kids at university or high school which really is a far away period in most people's lives, so it feels a little decontextualized. I love what all of you, in your experience bring to the discussions as humans and now therapists and obviously what you may have encountered in therapeutic work but the university kids examples are not very interesting. Sorry, maybe it serves a purpose and I just do not get it! ❤

Instead of being judgmental and trying to portray these topics as something stupid..., educate yourself on these things and take a look at yourself instead.., because you have all of it inside yourself,- we all have it! Every single human being on this earth have an inner child, - weather you like it or not. The inner child is a part of that voice you have in your head..,and your inner child holds the feelings that hurts you most of all and that you want to avoid at any cost..! The inner child is a part of YOUR voice in your head and your inner child have a big impact on how you treat yourself and how you treat other people. When you start to talk to your inner child and stop ignorering that part of yourself...,that is when your life changes. I speak from experience. 🙂 PS: all the info you need or want is free of charge on the internet! So there is actually no excuse,to be so uninformed or to have so little knowledge on these topics nowadays. Everybody have a mobile,so you dont need a computer. All you have to do is not use Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/Snap/OnlyFans/X/WhatsApp/Pinterest/KZbin/etc..,for 1 hour and check out these things instead. And if you have kids..,then you really should do this for your children.

Parenting happens in the realm of duality: they offer one value. They can not offer it’s opposite. They can only offer one, for example “be modest”. Once you chose one, you un-chose the other options. Our lives trajectory is to find the other parts/options that have not been offered, evaluate them and then choose. Now we have choice. We don’t even need to resent our parents, it feels powerless and like waisted energy.
