Which you can't usually do as a child. Another problem with ASSIGNING a child a position, is that they didn't have to think it out to hold it. So they probably didn't have to think about the issues it solves, or the problems it might create. If your dad teaches you something as a kid, you don't question it unless you are a teenager. Politics isn't something where blind obedience is a good thing, the opposite really, it's pretty harmful. We want people to hold GOOD ideas, and the only way to know if it's good is to test it against either reality (ideally), or other ideas if necessary. When your parents instill those ideas into you, they become part of who you are instead of just an idea.

She struggles every day with paperwork that takes time away from students and she struggles with thise few students who refuse to work and hurts the rest of the class. Teachers are asked to do the impossible with few resources and minimal pay. I agree...teachers should earn a professional salary. Many of them would make more at $10 an hour at any other job than what they do. Many in society treat teachers as glorified baby sitters, and they feel like that sometimes. I am a firm believer in removing unruly children from a regular classroom because one or two students should not be allowed to disrupt the learning of others. I've seen, working in a school system, a student hit the teacher, be sent to the office, only to be returned to that classroom. It is really very sad. Our teachers are the people educating our future doctors, nurses, Presidents, etc. Treat them with the respect they deserve! And I fully agree..society should let kids be kids. Keep politics out of the schools. Keep political ideology out of the schools. Many subjects should be taught in the home. As a society, we've allowed and almost insisted by our actions that schools should raise our children. That should be stopped so that children can learn thru play, thru trial and error, thru the values of their parents.

The ability to discipline disruptive students has been removed entirely from schools. Parents won’t support a teacher bringing that attention. They blame the teacher, the admin, call them (xyz) A disruptive student is that way for a reason. So, if removed to a different class, in that class a different type of teacher is needed (a leader) and additional help should be given to student to broaden the mind and find that learning fit. Most kids fit traditional model but some kids don’t, and aren’t necessarily “bad” Teachers should paid more.. but they also get a pension others don’t.. we need a total educational overhaul and teachers should have a bipartisan learning plan that must be agreed to. If they break from agreement and let bias slip in the must be fired. Just like all jobs. It allows for the greatest success because our society won’t last if we build a generation of jaded activist. How productive is that? Parents need to parent again. I think the foot was off the gas in many important areas, and that role needs to be respected like a educators role should be.

I like you more dude! Honesty is the best way to go! I was a welfare boy growing up but made sure i didn't take that path. I quit school in seventh grade a couple years later i smartened up and studied on my own until i got my GED then joined the Navy.

One thing we learned during covid, was kids can learn online at home... If we don't have to pay for school infrastructure, maybe the teachers can get paid more.

Administration departments usually ruin most jobs. I had a meme a long time ago I hung up in the shop on my ship. It was a person wearing a yellow hardhat (which usually means supervisor or a bigger boss) carrying a clipboard. It said "I don't know how to do your job, but my clipboard says you're doing it wrong" People who don't do the work dictating the best ways to do it. Almost every job. It's in mine in healthcare. And they love to say "we used to do your job too so we know..." Sure thing lady.

Part of the problem when it comes to paying public educators is they are almost all part of a union, and pay is not distributed based on capabilities or qualification, it is increased based on tenure. And since public schools are funded by local municipalities, state, and federal governments, the poor areas will be paid less. And funding from the government is contingent on test scores, so teachers do not educate any longer, now they only teach to the tests. The Department of Education is one of the worst run government departments period! The DOE, along with the FED, need to be abolished. Tenure needs to have much less weight attached to it, and there needs to be much more focus on accomplishments, but that won’t ever happen as long as the unions keep running everything.

Side note you touched on- nurses get paid a lot of money. And my brother was a teacher, then a VP then he went back to a teacher. There is plenty of tax money in the education system (which should be federally abolished). But it is the unions and administration that eats all the money.

I love Thomas Sowell! He is my hero! Whenever I see a video or an article with his name on it, or a new book he's written, I immediately have to see it or read it! Thank you for all of your TS videos! Even though I have watched these interviews, I just want to watch them again!

Education, Nursing, Policing, Fire Fighting, etc. are all service industry jobs, that should be filled with folks that are called to those jobs by their love for serving others. The pay isn’t where it should be but the rewards and benefits are.

I agree on not controlling parents in general. I find it pathetic to terrorize children that the world is going to end and they won't even live to adulthood.
@chlupl2 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood what he said. He said kids are being taught to have emotion without facts. He isn't speaking of encouraging kids to excel and dig for knowledge. We are creating people who have no understanding but to follow a narrative.

My wife has been a public school teacher over 25 yrs. The system has become a factory churning out people that follow the masses blindly, cannot think for themselves, and severely lack common sense. But, I believe this is the desired goal. Non thinkers are easier to control and herd. We try to teach our children to question everything. Not in a defiant or rebellious way, but to understand and find reason within. Of course we influence them, it's impossible to not, but they are encouraged to find and form their own opinions and beliefs. If they agree or disagree they should be able to support their decision. Just because a friend or relative says so is not enough. Thomas Sowell is very intelligent and reasonable, more people need to listen to him.

John Taylor Gatto has a lot to say about modern education and society. He has a book out called "Dumbing us Down." There are also many talks that are given, so KZbin may be fruitful. He got New York teacher of the year awards a few times and tore through the BS with his acceptance speeches 🤣

man i wish there was more people like you in the school i went to. i went to catholic school where everyone came from rich families with connections and i was one of the only kids from a lower class family. it's was a small school of only 500 students and everyone was basically the same overachievers with big dreams because their opportunities to go to a good university were wide open. i skimmed through highschool with all Ds and then got into community college for free and graduated with a 3.8

If your facts are “oppressor/oppressed” it’s a slanted view. It’s pretty easy to put your views based off facts (half withheld or opinions inserted on intention)

So the Dep. Of Education began in 1979. Until then education was a local issue. The government has ruined the way our children learn. They have to carve out special this and special that. Education should be about education not social agendas. By the way Van, I really enjoy you. 🙂
