You SHOULD Eat Garlic at LEAST 1x Per Day - Thomas DeLauer
Garlic Can Improve Physical Performance
There might be something to this ancient wisdom…
Ancient Egyptians gave garlic to their slaves to build the pyramids.
Ancient Olympians took garlic supplements to help them compete.
Garlic Womack C et al. Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2015. In this double-blind, placebo controlled, crossover study of 18 young men, 900 mg of garlic significantly improved VO2max by 2.7% when participants were forced to run on a treadmill. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
Garlic is Antimicrobial
Alias “Russian penicillin”
During WWII the Russian government issued garlic to its military troops when penicillin was running low to prevent them from getting sick. Since then, the antimicrobial properties of garlic have been extremely well documented.
Also, Louis Pasteur, the man who developed the germ-theory of infectious disease, himself observed that, “garlic kills bacteria.”
Ankri S et al. Microbes and Infection, 2001. Garlic is famous for its antimicrobioal properties. It has “antibacterial activity against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including (i) multidrug-resistant enterotoxicogenic strains of Escherichia coli; ii) antifungal activity, particularly against Candida albicans; iii) antiparasitic activity, including some major human intestinal protozoan parasites such as Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia; and iv) antiviral activity.” www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
For this reason, some people even swear by garlic as an acne treatment. They simply cut open a clove and rub it on their skin. I can’t confirm or deny whether this works, but people do it.
Garlic Lowers Heart Disease Risk
Varshney R et al. Journal of Nutrition, 2016. This meta-analysis of double-blind, randomized, controlled trials and of meta-analyses of double-blind, randomized, controlled trials (that’s right, a meta-analysis of meta-analysis!) concluded that garlic reduces blood pressure, cholesterol, coronary calcium scores, CRP inflammation scores, and overall heart disease risk. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
Garlic Prevents Cancer!
The National Cancer Institute itself recognizes the anti-cancer properties of garlic! There are lots of ways garlic may be anti-carcinogenic, but I want to highlight two.
Garlic protects against the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines, which are present throughout the diet but particularly high in processed meats. So, if you’re going to have your supermarket cold cuts, at least hit them with some garlic!
** Garlic contains an enzyme called alliinase which makes a compound called allicin, which has many anti-cancer properties, perhaps the coolest if which is that it makes cancer cells commit cell suicide (apoptosis).

I love to see anyone, especially influencers promoting Garlic, and “ ESPECIALLY “ You Thomas! 👍🏽💪🏽 As ever, you break down the Science. I Myself have been using straight fresh pressed Garlic near Daily or several times a week for over 20 years. And now because of the state of the world, most definitely daily, plus I bumped up my dosage to 9 grams from 3. I have always downed my Garlic before bed and have developed over the years a delivery system that I believe works well, after trial and amusing stories “ Error “ ( unintended social distancing lol ) I have not had a cold, flu nor any upper respiratory issues in 20 years and that being as I lived in a house as a care taker with two people that had the Flu every year like clockwork. My understanding has always been that pressing the cloves ruptures the cell walls mixing the alin, and the alinase to create the Alicin, the therapeutic compound in Garlic? Thanks for all of your content Thomas, as ever... you Rock!!!

Mae Sorry I missed this Mae. I have a scale and I peel then press the cloves through a OXO press, I get mine at TJ max. It’s rarely heavy duty, the cheap ones don’t work well. I have me spoon already on the scale with it zeroed out. I then press it into the spoon slowly, to catch all of the Allicin, the volatile active component. Also where the odor originates. Anywhere that oil gets will smell. I use the knife I scrape the Garlic from the end of the press ( Like in the old Play-doe Fun Factory ) and make a Bolus in the spoon. Then I swig a few ounces of Milk, Full fat if at all possible, the fats coat the esophagus. Spoon in mouth, I slide the Bolus off trying to not let it get anywhere ( The Smell ) then take a big gulp more of Milk and swallow whole... Start out small, only one Clove or half. I can now do large amounts after years. I also keep crackers on hand if the Garlic I purchase is super potent... and my stomach starts to rumble. Not all Garlics are created equal, I have found. There are Many Many types and sometimes no consistency at the Grocer. I will say, to date, Purple Veined Garlic has THE highest yield of Allicin that I have encountered over the years... I hope this helps. I can always send photos. Peace and Be well....

I've got an impaired immune system so I pick up a lot of upper respiratory infections. I've got to have my fridge stocked with peeled garlic. Actually just finished my 5th strain of hand-foot-and mouth disease, but took a course of antivirals for that. For common cold stuff I do 2 to 3 cloves of raw garlic one to two times a day and do this with even more frequency when I suspect the flu which travels with a fever and tries to move into the lungs. I know when I can't get started in the morning or slump during the day, my crushed garlic cloves with a chaser of green tea with lemon or ACV or both, picks me up with lightning fast speed so obviously something was lurking inside. It's amazing. I never knew about waiting 10 minutes, but I'll definitely incorporate to get an even bigger bang for my buck. Also didn't know about its activation of autophagy. Thanks. Also, love your personal stories. Don't stop.

I put myself on a Raw garlic and Onion diet some years back when I had nasal pulps, HUGE difference and almost all gone. I was told by doctors they can cut them out, but there is a 83% chance they will return (Per studies of others that had it), so I figured there was something deeper down I need to work on not just cutting things out of my nose. Best decision ever next to me quitting drinking

I make garlic confit once a week. Basically garlic poached at really low temp in olive oil. I add a few sprigs of fresh rosemary too. Then it keeps in the fridge. I add the garlic to just about everything and use the oil for other dishes. It can last for weeks in the fridge but I use all of mine up each week. The garlic has that wonderful roasted garlic flavor and the oil is infused with the garlic and rosemary.

Hello Mr. DeLauer and Thanks for your educational videos. I'd like to ask if every health benefit you've told in this video, also applies if garlic cloves are broken and let sit for a while for enzyme activation but then fermented in honey for daily consumption. I understand that honey is not so keto-friendly, but for many people, having the garlic fermented that way is a healthier choice. Any comments or advice are gratefully appreciated in advance.

Great video on Garlic. I eat garlic nonstop. Usually granulated however, we do use lots of minced garlic as well. Very interesting to know about the Allainase. I wonder, if the garlic is minced already, is it still needed or necessary to sit out for 10 minutes before adding it to food and cooking it? Just curious. Please answer Thomas DeLauer if you have a free moment. Thanks so much for posting this video.

This is for anyone wondering what's the best method to have garlic- it's having it raw. Cooked garlic has a lot of its compounds destroyed in the process. Basically what you do is take a garlic clove, chop and crush it finely and then let it sit in the air for 10-15 minutes. Next, add it to lemon water and gulp it down. This helps in avoiding the bad aftertaste and helps reap the maximum benefits. Tip: You can add honey to the water to make it easier.

I live abroad, and I can buy these super small garlic cloves. I used to eat them whole. I believe 1-2 cloves is right for the large American cloves, sliced, then swallowed. The question is, do they cause an insulin spike. I am doing alternate day fasting, so now I do them every other day. Thomas, I wish you would talk more about dosage, how to eat, and keep is simpler. Yet, the blenders are dosage, but they make the actions of using things like turmeric garlic, ginger more obsessive, time consuming. Quicker habits to me feel easier. How to avoid bad breath? Within ONE sec, I was literally chocking on that small piece... alone in the kitchen. I looked around the room, the time, outside and realized I could not breath and was i about to die. In complete panic i punch my gut and launched the garlic back out of my mouth, sending it across the room. I could breath again. Point is, be careful tossing these in your mouth folks. Keep up the great work Thomas. Stay strong, stay safe.

Garlic is also incredibly powerful in fighting a cold and clearing your sinus! Apples r a great combination with garlic as it will hide the taste of garlic quite well. My personal recipe is to cut an apple up like chips, put peanut butter on 1 slice. Then garlic mixed with honey on another slice. Put them together and u have a sandwich. U hardly taste the garlic and if u eat enough of it, u can kill a cold relatively quickly if not reduce the symptoms significantly.

Garlic powder specifically also reacts with water to bring out the flavor, put your garlic powder in a bit of water for some time and you will start to imminently smell the difference.

I try to use cut fresh garlic (especially on my mom's famous #chickenadobo) , but I rarely have time. I use garlic powder on some of my foods (especially those with sodium) . After this video, I 'll probably try to get more fresh garlic after knowing more of the health benefits. Thanks!

I add garlic to spinach because it takes care of the blood clots and kidney stones associated with spinach, and it spices things up.

Would this be taking the raw organic garlic as a tablespoon with honey every night or just raw garlic clove but crushed? I normally do thus with honey but not as Night or the 10 minutes for allicin strength.

I recently used large doses of raw garlic to treat dental abcess. What I didnt expect, despite being a big fan of garlic as a remedy - is that the my knee injury and stiff painful muscles around it that I have due to long hours of walking on concrete floors at work, would became so much better. In fact, less than a week later,, I can squat (not with weights, just the natural squat chlidren squat in) with no pain. This was very uncomfortable before due to a tendon issue across my knee and very tight calves. I am amazed at the difference. Im 58 years old. My muscles feel decades younger after just a couple of weeks. I had no idea this was a potential benefit of garlic, so I am now a true believer in garlic as a healer. I imagine that it could be having similar benefits in my brain. I will definitely keep it up. Btw I did not rest the garlic before eating it, but I still gained miraculous benefits. So im not entirely convinced of the necessity for that? I've been squatting most days for the last year to improve flexibility in my knees and calves. I used to be a gymnast and yoga practioner. Because of my busy life my stretching routine has become very simple. I squat while food is cooking etc. Just a few days ago I was very aware of pain in my tight tendon, and discomfort in many muscles in my calf, ankle and foot as I slowly moved into the full squat. Now I can go straight into a squat all the way to the ground with no pain or discomfort. The only difference in my routine is garlic. Btw in reverse, I dont usually eat gluten. When I did indulge my knee issues became much worse. Garlic and cutting gluten cured it.
