Here's an anecdote about Isabelle's name : In the French version, her name is "Marie", because it sounds a lot like "Mairie", which is French for town hall. It's not just a cool way of saying bisexual, it actually means a lot. However, when we consider that the mayor is human, maybe pansexual is a bit more fitting for Isabelle? But please use the word carefully, and don't use it in place of bisexual for the sake of it. Just want to appreciate how clever localization team for Nintendo. Here is the Chinese version 西施惠. So 西施 is a breed of dog popular in China (yes the Shih Tzu dog) and it is also a name for a historical figure who is a beautiful lady. 惠 means benefit, favor, and can be use to describe a lady’s virtuous. It is usually used for girls name. The most amazing thing is 西施惠 reads as “shee shh Huei”, which sounds like its Japanese original name, Shizue.

My favorite character has always been Kappa. When I was a kid, walking to the very end of my town and getting on that boat with him made me feel such an indescribable way. His song always made my heart both sad and happy. I guess it's kind of like a lullaby to a baby. And he always stopped in the middle to joke around. He never grew tired of taking me to the island, he just loved his little boat. He was like a loving dad waiting patiently. If he appears in New Horizons I'm absolutely gonna lose my shit.

I really like "Canela", the Spanish name. Mainly because the reason why she's named like that is unknown since there are a lot of reasons. Can is actually a formal name to say dog, canela is actually the word for cinnamon. It can come also from the expression "canela en rama" for saying something is very good, or because cinnamon is a symbol of wisdom, or it may derivate from the name "Candela"...

It was a tradition since the Nintendo 64 release. N64→GC→GC again→DS→Wii So as a Japanese who played all of these, I wasn't really bothered having the same game each release. Animal crossing was just that kind of game that would never change, and will be released on every major Nintendo console with graphical updates. The Wii version felt very different because of the town, but everything else was the same, and I was happy with it. The big change came with the 3DS version. I just wanted to live a slow life in a village, but no, I had to be the mayor. That was too much of a change. I had a decent amount of time spent in the 3DS version, but being a mayor and having to deal with public works was just not what I wanted in AC. And NH is a complete different game now. I love it, but it feels more like a spin off.
